He said they both sent out 15 resumes, and peer reviewed each other. She got 14 interviews, he got 2. He didn't notice (or didn't tell us about?) any significant differences in the writing level of the applications; that could play a large role. However, in the discussion, other in the industry confirm the OP's idea (some from the management side, I believe). I think it was also stated that they applied to all the same positions.

Probably because it's a lot harder to become a single dad. If the mother wants that baby, it's not hard to go to a court and take it from the father.
