Nah - go even further. Alimony should only exist for the recipient of the divorce request, or in cases of documented abuse or infidelity - and even then for a time period that can be reasonably allow the x-partner to get their life situated (say no more than 5 years). Just because you married a doctor and got used to that lifestyle but then got bored with him 20 years ago, doesn't mean you deserve it forever.

Yeah, but being needy/desperate and being scarce aren't the same things. I'd say it's a very important difference. Being available and showing legitimate enthusiasm about someone isn't needy, and I feel like acting unenthusiastic and unavailable to hide neediness is going to blow up in your face.

So you're belief is that artificial scarcity promotes a relationship? I've always found the opposite; that the more time it spend with someone, the closer I get. Maybe I'm the odd ball on this?

True, but being evaluated on your job / income is very much slanted towards men as well. Knowing someone is only interested in you for your money horrid, just as knowing they're not giving you the time of day because "you're great" but not raking in the $. The issue I have is similar to women with sex. As soon as they find out I'm not just going to make it rain on them day 1, they loose interest.
