Like I said, women were more harshly judged than men. Lynching women for witchcraft was actually nowhere near as common as many think.

That was the whole point of religious moralising of sex before marriage. Obviously women were more harshly judged than men, but the concept existed to shame people into modesty and prudishness across the board.

It's like saying all people could be murderers. Sure. Murderers aren't genetically different from the rest of humanity.

It will have absolutely no effect whatsoever. Attraction is completely amoral.

Society was structured such that men didn't have to worry about impressing women. For the educated few, it was just a matter of being polite and courtly, eventually the marriage would be arranged.

You can't really get by without using fossil fuels, and I do care about where my animal products come from and buy free range. False equivalence, in a moral and practical sense. You have absolutely no need to date a jerk. At least you're honest about not giving a shit though, many women would rationalise it to make themselves feel like good people.

Basically it's the same though. In what way is "I'm not attracted to you" similar to "I'm intimidated by you"?

It's closer to the opposite. The SJWs are telling the rock and rollers that their lyrics about sex are misogynistic and perpetuating toxic masculinity, and they really ought to quiet down because it might be triggering to people who don't like loud noises. It's why they're called "Regressive", they're ironically very conservative, rolling back freedom of expression.

"This thing is having a generally negative effect on its environment and surroundings, but it's not affecting me so why would I care?" Think about what this attitude is implying, what it says about your ethical code.

As long as he isn't a jerk to me (or servers/bartenders/cashiers) I don't really care! People might say my husband has some asshole qualities, but never towards me, so why would I care? You would care if you were the sort of person who held principles in an abstract sense, independent of real-world outcomes.

It's like the brain thinks and your body feels differently depending on the language you use. You might enjoy the movie Arrival. It cuts deep into this line of thinking, among other things. I feel like this proposition is intuitive and self-evident. Many languages have words and short phrases for things that would take a sentence of explanation in English, and I'm sure it's the case vice versa. That speaks to something crucial in the culture from which each language emerges, that they place impo…

If I can do it, you can do it. And unlike me, you have a lot backing all that up. Maybe. Part of my problem is I'm also not sure if it's even worth the effort. In the back of my mind all the time will be the nagging feeling that none of this is me, that I'm posturing for people who don't actually care about me and nor do I care about them. It doesn't fix that thing inside, it's just another mask. Instead of being an obvious alien, I'll be an alien putting on a person suit pretending to be a pers…

Right, that's nihilism, No it isn't. Just because you don't hold something to be objectively true in principle, doesn't mean you don't care about it. One could be an ethical vegan and a nihilist with no philosophical contradiction whatsoever.

As always Atlas brings the wisdom. I fit the person described in this thread quite nicely. I'm relatively good looking and work out (better looking and fitter than most of the guys I'm acquainted with), I'm intelligent (getting highest grades in my department at a good University). I have a wide range of interests spanning pop culture and sports to literature, philosophy, history. On paper I should have no problems whatsoever. The fact that I myself know this creates a feedback loop that makes t…

are one of those people who looks on the bright side of everything. Even at 22, I can see this feeling for me collapsing with each passing day. This time last year I didn't give a shit, everything else in my life was going well. That's still basically the case for me, but it's no longer satisfactory. There's only so long you can keep pushing away social and biological instinct before it eats away at you.

The plane where you barely notice the sexual advances of above average women. Where it's part of your mental landscape to be frustrated about not getting top tier women.

In bars they'll just pretend not to hear, get their phone out, go 'find their friends' etc. Over text, they just dont respond.

As someone attractive There you go. You don't really exist on the same socio-sexual plane as the majority of men to be honest.

Well like I say in the rest of my post, maybe I'm just having bad luck because it's happening with increasing regularity that I'll be having a nice chat with someone and when I ask if they fancy a drink, I don't even get the courtesy of a "no thanks".

Because they feel bad rejecting them. In the same way we all feel bad when its our turn to take out the garbage. It doesn't make them feel guilty, it's just a pain in the arse they'd rather not have to deal with. It'd be the same for us men, but we can't garner sympathy about being harassed by fatties. We'd be expected to 'man up' and at the very least let her down nicely. Women don't even bother doing that anymore. The last several rejections I've dealt with have been implicit in the silence. O…

Society includes everyone, it doesn't mean everyone's personal bullshit needs to be dealt with publicly. If you can't get a guy to pay child support, sue him. If he can't pay, well you should've thought about that before you chose to forego contraception.

Exactly. What they mean is "I don't want to be approached by unattractive men".

I have not heard much discussion about that. Because it doesn't matter. So a given single mother made a judgment call and allowed some deadbeat douchebag to cum inside her, why is that my (the taxpayer's) problem?

Exactly. Academic feminism actually tends to push towards radical subjectivity, preferring qualitative research over quantitative. I personally consider it to be fundamentally unreliable, appealing more to prejudice than rational thought.

Most of them will have been in the military for much of the past decade, so they'll be relatively fit. All the deaths will have caused a shortage in many industries, meaning labour becomes a seller's market and career advancement is easier.

Again with this shit? This whole Nice GuysTM meme is an excuse to bully and demonise socially awkward beta males. I've never seen a convincing argument otherwise and yours is not the first. Someone else has already pointed this out. When you find yourself painting a whole group of people with broad strokes, why not try switching out the nouns with some other demographic and see whether or not you're just being a prejudicial moron?

Do you even have sex with anyone? I suspect not. This thread is absolutely bizarre. I don't think OP remotely appreciates the vast shifts in identity that come with fucking with your hormones this drastically. He'll more likely turn into a pudgy emotional basket case and completely lose the drive necessary to work a full-time job, forget obtaining a Masters and PhD in anything.

On the other hand, if a woman is only valued for her looks nobody cares if she has good ideas, is a great person, is competent and productive, etc. I really don't believe the op and their views. People are more willing to accommodate hot women because they want to fuck them. That isn't the same as taking their talents unrelated to their appearance seriously. Citation needed but you'll probably find that other women are generally more lenient with attractive women as well. It's called the halo ef…

Family Guy is intentionally parodying the trope. It's too silly to reconcile with any rational explanation.

This argument is one of the dumbest things I've read on the internet in a while and the election was only last week. Such a simple point OP is failing to grasp.

The mistake you're making is attributing those 'crosses' to men alone. Women take part in it as well, because society in general is judgmental and competitive. Men face at least as much expectation and pressure in daily life, from all sides.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone in the real world even imply this in my entire life.

Sex is the largest and most prominent source of validation for men... that are not used to getting it and are insecure because of that. Isn't it kinda the point, that when we are deprived of something extremely important we crave it more?

Physical ageing (aka ''The Wall'') isn't something which uniquely affects women. It affects people proportionate to the degree to which physical attractiveness is an asset in their SMV. Men value physical attractiveness to a greater degree, so women inevitably suffer more from physical ageing as a result.
