I’ve dealt with exes like this, all of them were long term serious relationships like this as well. I 1000% believe you are making the right choice! I know it’s not an easy choice when that’s all you’ve known for so long. I know how scary it is when someone has manipulated you into thinking you could never survive without them, but then all they do is make you miserable in your relationship. You need to be putting you and your needs first. He will not do that for you, he has not been doing that.…

This just screams “I’m mad that they won’t have sex with me/put up with my BS while dating me”

This really hits the nail on the head. I’m coming to terms with that if he had been the right one he never would have done/said those things. Someone else will be the right person, even if that person is me

This might be the most important thing right now. I chose myself over instant gratification and people pleasing. Wow.

If I can do that now I will certainly be able to do it then. Thank you!

I used to do the same. I find now though that it’s easier to delete the texts while it’s still fresh. Not to say that I don’t have other things I have to avoid. Going through these comments I’m realizing how much that relationship was like a drug to me. Looking at it for what it is though, makes it easier to address the problem, fix it, and move on.

Wow, this is eye opening. I really like having a logical approach and understanding of it.

I’ve always heard it’s easier to remember bad things but that all somehow goes out the window during a breakup. Thank you!

True, true. I think the trick to keep not repeating mistakes is to keep building myself up. I’ve made progress but there’s still some ways to go. Thank you!

Its mosh hardness is 5.5-6.5 according to google. That means it’s pretty hard, but soft enough to get scratched somewhat easily by daily wear. Not all opals turn clear, some change color, which is also undesirable. They can lose or gain moisture, as water is a part of their chemical structure, effecting how they look. The moisture could come from her skin, even. Where the opal was sourced also effects how delicate but even Australian opals are still one of the more fragile stones. You really nee…

It looks like it’s opal though. You can’t wear opal everyday, it’ll turn clear and loose its value. I personally like the ring but it’s going to be quickly destroyed if it is used the same as an engagement ring. It’s likely to be worth nothing at all soon, which is sad if it’s truly an antique. It’s one thing if it were a placeholder ring for something sturdier, but seeing as he proposed with subpar art skills... probably best not to get any hopes up.

Yeah that’s pretty rude. If it bothered him that it got on his clothes, he could just say so, but it doesn’t sound like that’s his issue. I say be done with him. There is a better future for you where you do not have to deal with these comments.

Reminds me of when I broke up with one of my exes in the car, he kept driving around like he was going to drive off the road and crash the car. F*ck that, I’ll never date anyone like him again.

I think just reading through this sub can help. Behave and carry yourself in a way that is beneficial to you, and you alone. Make snarky remarks if it’s safe to do so. Point out the obvious- he’s an old creeper creeping on a minor. Remember that these sad excuses for human beings are pigs and nothing more, nothing worth getting yourself worked up over. Act as if showing any emotion towards them shortens your lifespan. There will be situations that you need to stand up for yourself and defend you…

Trigger warning for violence. I have personally, unfortunately, seen how porn relates to rape. And as porn becomes more and more violent, men are accepting it and getting turned on because of violence inflicted on women. Because if your brain is conditioned to think choking a woman is sexy, what is your first thought going to be if you see a women getting strangled in public? FDS opened my eyes to what porn is and why I was watching it (not for any good reason.) It’s not just in online culture a…

“He didn’t have a plan after graduation and I felt sad bc he told me i was his future but i felt like there was no action behind that. I wanted him to create his plan while he moved away for uni.” This sentence stands out a lot to me. Seems to me you were his plan for after he graduated- meaning that you were going to be his income, his place to stay, etc. etc. You deserve better than that. You should not have to ask your s/o to get their future together. Keep your head high and work on leveling…

This kind of boy will give any excuse to be unemployed and lazy. Next excuse might be “because of women in the workforce and the Mexicans took all the jobs.” (This is my previous experience, anyway.)

It’s okay to offer a ride to someone in that situation, but not if they make you feel unsafe or rely on your kindness all of the time (assuming they are a capable adult.) you don’t have to offer someone your entire order of fries, but rather just a few. It’s about having limits and boundaries, so that you’re not being hurt or taken advantage of.

I can relate to this. You don’t have to stop giving, but being a door mat is a no-no. Add the word “no” to your vocabulary. You have to protect your energy and your time. Don’t over extend yourself. If they don’t return the favor and appreciate what you do, you’re better off without them. Make sure you’re giving to yourself too, for you that might mean making sure you, your emotional state, and your stuff is taken care of first and foremost.

Once they figure out what they can get away with, they don’t stop. Don’t give him any more chances. He’s just going to disappoint you

Rip off the band aid. The sooner you do it, the faster you get it over with. You can break up with now or you can wait until he hurts you in a way that’s even harder to heal from. I went through something similar with my ex. Please believe me that it’s only going to get worse. You have to be your own protector, don’t let yourself down.

Stop tolerating being treated like that. Leave him. He’s already shown you his true colors by persisting after you expressed discomfort. Don’t stick around to find out if he changes, because he’s probably not going to.

He is literally telling you that you’re not worth his time. He is not worth your precious time! He isn’t changing when you ask him for the bare minimum affection. It sounds like divorce would be an investment in your future.

I've personally been to a few therapists. Not all of them were good or the right match. But it's worth finding the right one, because when you do? It can be life changing. The right therapist may bring up angles and perspectives to your feelings and situations, past, present, or future, that you couldn't have seen on your own. If you realize you could benefit from a psychologist or medication, they can help with that too. Seriously, do it. It might take some time to find the right one but be pat…
