Most of the people I’m referring to happen to be males (simply because most of my friends are guys). By being feminists, it simply means they all want equality for the sexes and don’t do anything to oppose that.

Think a little. These people are falsely claiming to be something they’re not, and attempting to shield themselves from the consequences of their shitty actions, or justify them, by hiding behind that. They are shitty people who did shitty things, but they are by definition not feminists, and were not acting in the name of feminism. This is exceedingly simple.

I agree with what you said, up until the last sentence. Not that it never happens, but I don’t think it’s prevalent or a huge issue at the moment. So virtually every person I know is a feminist, because all that means is they want no inequality on the basis of gender.
