Trying to pick up at the gym as a guy isn't like anywhere else. Basically the best way to go about it is just do you, get your pump in, if you see a girl you think is cute, leave her alone. If she wants to talk to you she will. What may help is if you went to the gym with a friend.

I don't think Op was crying just because he got stood up, I think he was getting at the fact that he was using drugs and alcohol to "push the pain to tomorrow" and the dam finally burst.
