That's totally true, and unfortunate. There are assholes everywhere.

Go ahead and call me a temporary migrant, then, haha. It's longer to say though, so I'll keep using expat. But I literally couldn't care less, that was the distinction I and everyone I know abided by. But anecdotal evidence will definitely change my mind!

So just one point (as a former expat in China, lol.) An immigrant intends to stay in the country they move to. An expat does not.

Lmao you think humans are anywhere approaching the longevity of that kind of geologic time scale? The oldest recorded human history we have is about 5000 years old (around 3200 BCE.) How far back in pre-history do you think the institution of MARRIAGE existed? Here's a clue - probably none. Because that's what we were talking about, not natural selection.

But this was a poem for the celebration of their marriage specifically.

Okay. Here's a ritual wedding poem from circa 2000 BCE Sumeria, a Bride's words to Shu-Sin, the 4th ruler of the 2rd dynasty of Ur. Bridegroom, dear to my heart, Goodly is your beauty, honeysweet, Lion, dear to my heart, Goodly is your beauty, honeysweet. Bridegroom, let me caress you, My precious caress is more savory than honey, In the bedchamber, honey-filled, Let me enjoy your goodly beauty, Lion, let me caress you. My precious caress is more savory than honey. Bridegroom, you have taken you…

This is a recent phenomenon. 12th-century troubadours were writing of courtly love and romance in the way we think of it today. So what exactly are you calling recent - medieval times?

At the end of the day, marriage was built to provide a context for people to come together and raise children, that's it. Whelp, better tell my husband we need to get divorced, since we can't have kids. Wtf even is this reasoning? Where did you learn marriage was for children? It's for establishing legal rights, duties, and responsibilities as a committed couple in the eyes of the government. And even if you are speaking historically, that isn't necessarily true either. Marriage was just as much…

Doesn't mean we didn't and don't serve in wars. The current US Army is 18% women. And it was during my generation's "shitty war the olds made us fight for no reason," the Iraq War, that led to women being allowed to serve in ground combat roles. At the time of the US-led invasion of Iraq, American military women were still officially banned from ground combat. Yet the nature of that war with its ill-defined frontlines and insurgent attacks meant that female troops quickly found themselves under …

maybe that's not so bad. Given what the CCP and the US did to young people during COVID, crashing the sOcIaL cOnTrAcT actually sounds like a good idea. It depends on what you mean by crashing the social contract. Because despite what tankies and other sociopolitical accelerationists would have us believe, things won't get better if we just burn everything the fuck down, with no plan for what comes both during and after the unrest. I ain't no simp for the CCP or the American government, lol. But …

No, I haven't dated as an average guy. And honestly, I've dated women but often found that my socialization didn't really "jive" well with more feminine energy? And I struck out more often than not with girls over the years. I think that's just trying to date women, lol. So really, I can empathize in more ways than many women in certain ways, hahaha. But I really don't think it would be fair to characterize me as someone who "doesn't care about men," considering I was raised single-handedly by a…

I mean, if my husband had given up when he was 30 , then we wouldn't have met. It just seems needlessly fatalistic. But I haven't had that experience. But neither have my many male friends or family members, either. We'll, my dad was married three times, but that's on him for having a thing for redheads with personality disorders.) That's a big reason why I want to engage in these spaces. Because there's obviously multiple social, economic, and cultural issues potentially at play. It blows my mi…

Dating is easy for anyone who plays to their strengths and cultivates a prosocial personality. My husband didn't even have pictures of himself on his profile, I just liked the nerd shit in his pics and his quirky nerd vibes in his summary. Also, Donatello is objectively the best ninja turtle, so I knew the man had taste! I think this has more to do with the type of guys who typically spend hours on Reddit and other online forums every day. I know I know, pot-meet-kettle, but also, I successfully…

I mean, yeah. Being a normal person on dating apps works, is that news? I met my husband on OKCupid. I reached out first and complimented his TMNT miniatures and asked which was his favorite. We bonded over both of us liking Donatello. Then our first date was the dog park. Boom. What are these "undercover" dating app experiments supposed to prove? That if you treat people like people, they usually respond at least neutrally? That getting a date is easy? Or hard? Honestly, I don't know what y'all…

Bahahaha I like this! Bisexual privilege... I mean, having a much larger percentage of the world population who can possibly revv your engine. I wouldn't call it "falling back," though. If I wanted pussy, I wanted pussy. I won't argue the idea of "privilege" doesn't apply, because I could totally make that argument. It certainly makes the statistics way more friendly in a lot of ways. And honestly, other than my crazy right-wing mother and stepdad, I didn't suffer a lot of blowback, even in the …

Are you just going to repeatedly ask snide questions you assume to be rhetorical? Everyone has some degree of confirmation bias, acknowledged and self-corrected, or not. Where I grew up, the family who raised me, the experiences I've had, my social circles: all of these things make me, me. Same for you.

Hard to say, honestly - we tend to have biases towards our own culture(s) as "standard" or "dominant." But I don't think my experience is as rare as you are implying. I've met tons of women (in Army training, living and working abroad, etc) that don't align at all with your presumed default. Sometimes one's personal social circle can present a very different statistical spread or prevalence from someone else's. I don't think either of us are a "default," or a demonstrable majority. We are all di…

Fair enough! I'm only speaking from my own, personal experience, your mileage may vary! I just like to provide counter-evidence if my social circle and I have very different experiences. Totally not saying every woman should have to live like that, but I did (and many other women have as well.) Most of my female expat friends in China were from West Africa or Kyrgyzstan, and they definitely didn't have life on easy mode over there.

I never took the harassment personally, i guess i just considered it "the cost of doing business" as a foreign cultural expert on the mainland. I was the only laowai girl in a city of over a million people. It just comes with the territory when a society isn't used to socializing with foreigners, at ALL. One time there was a mob of local men trying to track down my phone number and apartment. They kept saying they would film covert porn with me, which was disconcerting. But I lived in a walled a…

Oh, don't get me wrong, I was constantly harassed, hahaha. Not typically at my workplace, but definitely at the karaoke bar where I worked as a hostess on weekends... I am blonde with blue eyes, which suddenly became a really big deal and an exotic trait that often got fetishized. Regardless, I loved every minute of my travels and wouldn't change it for anything! I traveled solo around East Asia in my mid 20's, so my internal "danger alert system" probably has a much higher tolerance level than most. I learned Mandarin and worked in mainland China. So I have (literally) wandered off with random men while traveling abroad. Countless times. That's how you get to know people, after all! Related to that are my experiences abroad as the token "smiling, overly-casual American." You can wake up each day a Squidward, or you can be the SpongeBob you want to see i…

I mean, of course not. But sex is sex in my book. It's like pizza - even when it's awful cold leftovers, it's still pizza, and pizza is awesome. I think a lot of people just have trouble getting into the right headspace for really good sex. I can pretty much get myself off during sex with other people anyway... so maybe that's why I don't have a "typically female" view on this stuff? I dunno, most of my female friends think similarly, so that isn't my experience at all. But I can't guarantee my …

Well, as someone who has had multiple MMF and FMF threesomes with my bi male partners, I think flexibility is always a good thing! Like, you still didn't answer why I, a bisexual woman who enjoys sex, would have any sort of problem with bisexual men? They are my people! Sounds like toxic masculinity rearing it's ugly head, where men are always supposed to be "dominant" as the male partner in a hetero pair. Its sad, I think they're missing out. Hey now, don't lump us all in. I'm an unrepentant slutbag who always ends up forming friendships with (primarily) other slutbags of all genders. Maybe bisexual people just find each other? Holy shit are sluts more fun, and not just in bed. I like sluts fir their improv-esque "Yes, and" approach to life. But I will probably get demonized by the opposite side of this "debate" on female sexual morality. There is no right answer (in my experience) when it comes to others' opinions on personal and se…

As someone from New Jersey... y'all just need too hang out with more Jewish people. Honestly, I think a big reason for the seemingly disproportionate amount of Jewish representation in some industries (entertainment, law, medicine, etc.) just comes down to a culturally enforced idea of academic achievement being the best way to survive in a goyim world.

Honestly? Being an incel and being a virgin are two very different things... I call em like I see em. But I have never shamed a dude for lack of experience. It's like that XKCD comic. "Congrats, You're one of today's lucky 10,000!"
/r/PurplePillDebate03/06/24 11:24 PM

Stopped women... how? Being on the site underage? Because if that's the case, report it? There should be consequences for the dating app or website. If there aren't already. It's hard to prove, though, and for little benefit that motivates people to seek out justice. Just like how nightlife business owners look the other way, allowing underaged college and HS kids in shadier bars and nightclubs (so long as they will help fight against it turning into a sausage party.)

Never found it off-putting. Why would I? I get to introduce them to a really fun cool thing! I slept with 2 virgin guys in their late 20's. But if I encountered an older virgin guy (at least before I met my husband) it wouldn't have been a deal-breaker at all.

Weird that you think that graph proves your point. Did you notice the increases for minority groups as well? It's almost like people more likely to be harassed (for just being themselves) think there might be a problem with the lack of polite discourse or any semblance of manners or composure. And I criticize TRP because I've watched men and boys in my own life mess up their mental health and self-sabotage because they buy into manosphere grifts and resulting toxic ideology. I didn't say TRP was too offensive in my post. said that I am constantly disappointed in my fellow humans' lack of empathy... I didn't even say "men." Perhaps you should work on your reading comprehension. How are women determining what is socially acceptable any more often than men determine it? Easily offended? Naw, military made sure I wasn't easy to rile up. But constantly disappointed in the capacity for empathy among my fellow humans? Maybe. Finding it amusing that you are generalizing women as so easy to offend, while claiming to hate... society at large? Manners? Human decency? I find that a bit amusing in a dark, sad sort of way.

Women like me in what way? And dude... small percentage? All the way back in 2007 (when I graduated from HS), there were already reports and hand-wringing op-ed articles about how many young women are identifying as lesbian and bisexual (even back then, it was around 15% of young women.) That's more than 1 in 10 women, not an insignificant number. That's similar to the number of left-handed people in the overall population.

There is no male and female "nature." The pseudoscience of Evolutionary Psychology has broken too many people's brains, regardless of gender.

Even back in 2007 about 15% of young girls and women identified as lesbian or bisexual. I'm not even including demisexuals and the rest of the ace spectrum in that percent. Not being the majority doesn't mean the experiences of a significant plurality of the female population are erased. Though I mean, maybe they don't matter to you or you refuse to consider them, since they aren't playing the heterosexual game? But not everyone wants dick, even if it happens to be attached to a very conventiona…

Honestly? It's this type of all-encompassing generalizations that do no one any good. Even if what you said was true objectively rather than subjectively, saying that any woman would act that way is such a weird hyperbole. There are plenty of women who aren't interested in men at all, or not right now. Sometimes I really wonder if straight people even like their opposite-sex counterparts...

My dad always told me to make sure you enjoy your partner's conversation and company. According to him, that is the most important factor. Eventually, you'll both be old, his dick won't always work, you'll will be tired and your joints will ache... So make sure you enjoy spending time together that isn't physical or sexual.

For real. I think there's a lot of bias among certain sections of the manosphere. It boils down to basically vastly overestimating the number of people who hold similar ethical and moral beliefs. When you're in manosphere online spaces almost exclusively, it becomes progressively more difficult to imagine that other people have different aesthetic tastes, moral boundaries... healthy relationships...

But like... no one is stopping you? Judge away, that's your right as an American. Go ahead and judge me, I was a total slut in my 20s. My pick up line was, "I'm trisexual... Exactly, men who are picky about their partners in these specific ways always overestimate how many people share their values and ethics. It's so weird to me that you look at terminally online bitter divorcees and think, "Yeah, that's probably par for the course." Who's complaining about the dating scene? The last time I had trouble dating was when I was still in HS; I was an awkward debate team nerd girl. I think there's a huge difference between dating teens and mature 25 yrs old. I agree in general, but this varies widely among individuals. I think sticking w9th any hard and fast rule is an exercise in oversimplification. And hey, I get it. I'm 35yo, so 40 is looking awfully close! But I work at a college, and 40yo men are, in fact, old AF to the early-20's crowd.

Unless other older men also bring 10/10 good looks, millions of dollars, and social capital through the roof, they aren't going to have an easy time trying to pick up teens and 20-somethings. I say this as someone who dated a 36yo guy when I was 19yo. It can be fun, and I certainly don't want to yuck anyone else's yum. But there are more issues than you'd think.
