I get not wanting to spend $50-$70 per entree on dinner for a first date (sounds like it could be close to $300 after appetizers, drinks, wine, tip). But why did he have to go all the way to “drinks or picnic”? All this guy had to do was say “hey, I’ve wanted to try [$20 per entree restaurant] and [dirt cheap place with amazing food], does either sound good to you?” But nope, he outed himself as cheap and let her know that anniversaries are going to suck with him. Is it just me that doesn’t care if a guy is a “6” or a “10” and doesn’t even think about them that way? I have a bar, you have to be over it (really basic stuff… reasonable hygiene, gainful employment). And once you’re over the bar, personal characteristics matter so much more.

I’ve started using the word “scrote” when appropriate (man behaving badly), and I’m hoping one of these days it’s going to lead to a conversation on how the young women at FDS have their priorities and values in order. Life’s too short to spend scrubbing 80% of the toilets when you both work.

I think protection too.. a good man wants to take care of and protect his wife and family, and one way he might show that early on is to pay for dates, make sure you’re in a cab, walk you home, make sure you’re comfortable. When I was dating, someone who can’t do these things isn’t someone that I want to invest a few months on just to see whether they have reasonable goals, no personality disorders, sexual compatibility, and a real interest in you (vs checking the wife box off the list).

That’s so cute that he thinks housework, errands, meals, and child care takes two hours out of the day. (Hope you guys don’t mind me reading, I’m happily married but with a twenty year old copy of Why Men Prefer Bitches shoved on a bookcase somewhere.)

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
