Agree on that. Power relations and similarity of attitudes plays a strong role

When a "society" is not there to put pressure on the men to produce and protect those close to them, of course they're gonna turn out to be independent, cooperative and organized.

FYI: In India, you can be charged and convicted with rape if you have sex with someone under 'false pretense' of a marriage. So basically if the girl thinks you're gonna get married and it doesn't work out, you can be charged with rape.

Suicide and depression in men. I was in a very similar position as you. Keep everything data based and grounded in reality. Its a topic worth learning about.

Will keep it in mind and make sure I don't end up attacking men but only understanding them.

I completely understand man. It's alright. I'm just trying to understand what experiences of men are like because I am really passionate about depression in men since I am one of those men too. And as I can see you are passionate about Mens Rights too which helps me reach a better understanding overall. Thank you for taking so much time out to help me understand.

So what you're saying is emotions aren't suppressed and that there is no 'suppression' in men. It's just that they have different ways of dealing with their emotions and that should not be considered a maladaptive behaviour. Do I understand you correctly?

"I just have lot of responsibilities so I don't really have time to be emotional" So this would be an example of the person not being able to express it right? Because of course men feel emotions. What did you infer from this statement?

This is the main paper that I'm basing the idea of the research on, https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1468-2850.2008.00125.x The language I'm using is one that came right off the top of my head and I agree it's not something that belongs in a research paper. My bad there. I tried to stay away from papers that used terms like Toxic Masculinity or male hegemony or something like that. Basically, those that put the burden of the suffering on men, I stayed away from since they were u…

I wasn't exactly going looking for feminist resources for my research. Can you share what you consider a credible source? And how you differentiate between a feminist and a credible source?

Alright I'll admit that I've been phrasing it simplistically but I do understand that this is a complex phenomenon and the burden isn't simply on men to seek help, especially if they feel it's not available. That said, emotional intelligence is important in recovering from depression and other mood disorders.

Yup. There was a movie in India by the name 'Kabir Singh' and the main character had classical signs of male depression. It was great how accurate it was specially considering the director has no idea about it. Just goes to show how common it is and how it goes unrecognized so often.

In the researches I refer to they interview various people who identified as having depression and asked them what their experience was like. Responses included, "I just have lot of responsibilities so I don't really have time to be emotional" And so on. Will share some references I'm using here once I get free

Yeah I did look at that and I think we are actually talking about the same paper here. The Male Depression Syndrome it was called there where men show acting out behaviours like aggression, hypersexual drive or substance abuse instead of the traditional hopelessness, pangs of crying symptoms of depression

Damn didn't know that. Will read up on that now. Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot man. I've been reading up on the same things and found that men have a harder time asking for help. Many times they don't recognize they need it and when they do they struggle to share it due to all the responsibilities that are already on them making them feel like they don't wish to burden others. I doubt that there is such a thing as a 'fake' suicide attempt but it's a fact that women attempt suicide more often while men complete it more often. I have a personal stake in this res…

It certainly could be a factor. Most researches in Europe and USA point out the difficulty in sharing emotions due to social pressures a bigger contributor. It can't be a coincidence that men are 33% of the depression patients but 78% of those who die by suicide. Trying to look into that here.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
