Even if science did say it was bad you aren’t going to stop, the pleasure would outweigh the negatives. People do it because they want to. The issue is a psychological one, sociological problem, problem dealing with the mind in relation to the world not the body.

Even if I wasn’t religious I wouldn’t preach that wanking is good. I’d always state love over lust. Sometimes people forget to wash their hands when leaving the bathroom, doesn’t mean we normalize it. The downside to masturbation to most people is psychological. It replaces intimacy for a recreational activity. Leads people to sex as a recreational activity. Short term high(climax) is constantly chased until it turns into an addiction.

Stuart-Mills lays out the problem of superficial pleasures perfectly. Anyone can get drunk on a Sunday night, anyone can wank off for hours a day. Look at the music industry, it’s strictly song form.
