You miss my point entirely. If I want to have a partner with the same earning potential as me I'm very likely going to be single for the rest of my life, lol This is what cohabitation agreements are for. I'd never get married again.

For some of us the likelihood of finding a partner who earns as much is about as close to zero as you could get. My consideration has nothing to do with earnings. They need to have a career that they're passionate about. That's it.

What? I'm talking about taking precautions and proper responsibility by sterilizing yourself rather than relying on someone else or methods that are less effective.

Your comment doesn't contradict mine. Also, I have no idea how it works in your country. At-fault divorces are not a possibility where I live.

Unless you live somewhere that isn't no-fault divorce none of this matters one bit Your lawyer can advise you on how child support is calculated in your jurisdiction. Only your lawyer will know if a new partner's income would be a factor in calculating supports.

This isn't an American issue. Plenty of us getting fucked in other countries, too.

That's where I like to make it clear that my ex gets a six figure amount of support for the next 10 years so net worth doesn't mean shit if my cashflow is poor, lol

Your standards today should be higher than they've ever been in your life, not lower. Take everything you've learned over the years and benefit from it by being happy and content alone above all else.

I used to have depression and anxiety issues before separating. I still do, but I used to, too.

I stopped wearing mine during covid from the constant handwashing and it never went back on. Maybe that was the final nail in the coffin for her, lol

The person I enjoy spending time with the most is me. I only came to this realization when I finally moved into my own place. I used to carry a lot of guilt when I'd take a little bit of time to myself to enjoy my hobbies. It's so liberating for that guilt to go away. I'm also finding parenting and enjoying my kids to be so much easier and satisfying. Less anxiety and stress. To be fair, she'd probably say the same things. This probably all just serves as an example of why a traditional monogamo…

100% all of this, but of course it's only made possible when the co-parent is reasonable. You and I are both lucky in this respect - a lot of guys here are dealing with literal terrorists, lol.

Hang in there. Your story echoes my own in many ways. It speaks volumes that you're able to see your own part in this. I've read some amazing books the past few months that have really helped me gain perspective and clarity. Conscious Uncoupling (she's reading this one too, our divorce is quite amicable), Models, Negotiating the Non-negotiable and No More Mr Nice Guy to name a few. I believe reflecting on and understanding my role in the failure of our marriage was a necessary step to getting pa…

Thank you for writing this. It's exactly what I needed right now.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
