Adolf Hitler was Person of the Year because he brought Germany from the ground and made Germany powerful again. That's not exactly what the Time article said. He won the distinction in 1938. Do any significant European events from that year come to mind?

The English translation of this is really bad. You're better off learning German. Substitutes: books by Wehrmacht soldiers like The Forgotten Soldier and Soldat: Reflections of a German Soldier (this one especially; it's about an artillery officer)
