I'm aware of both stories after having to sit through family therapy with them haha, the dude went off the rails cause he got fucked over in his marriage. The accommodation is far more restricted for students AFTER 1st year, so ideally if I was living on campus in first year, I'd find a couple of people to rent a house together with for the remainder of college. I'd be more than happy to just board for first year.

Internships are definitely a good idea. With a lot of the bigger financing firms, it seems they offer you places upon graduation, which means I wouldn't have the stress of the "milking rounds" and interviews I'll be doing my business/economics degree with German, so this also opens up a lot career options abroad aswell as working with German firms here in Ireland but I definitely agree that a top tier school reputation &a graduation is a huge advantage

As far as I'm aware, due to my grandfathers death about a year ago, their should be some additional money inherited by my dad in the next few months but idk if this is enough for him to be willing to pay? Taking a year out here and continuing to live at home while working part time/full time would be an option, as min. wage here is €9.15 an hour, but I already did a "gap year" as part of school when I was 15/16, so my parents would more than likely charge me some kind of rent and/or living expen…

Sports in colleges here is probably the main avenue I would meet people, closely followed by drinking due to the alcohol-encouraging culture in Ireland. There are certainly societies based around the courses you're doing which would organise things such as formal balls, charity events, and weekends away, but again being involved with these societies would depend heavily on having a strong presence within that society, something which would be far far easier to achieve if I'm on campus to meet up…

Funny enough investment banking is exactly where I'm heading haha. My worry is that initial period of the first 2-3 months where friends and social circles are made. He's willing to pay the accommodation at a slightly less prestigious college, where there's a difference of about €2000 over the course of the year. As much as I would like to live independently and fully embrace a college culture, Would I be shooting myself in the foot with career opportunities down the line as I would've attended a number 4 or 5 rated college as compared to a number 1 or 2?

It's frustrating as he's some kind of functioning alcoholic & smoker. I'm more than aware that he probably consumes the equivalent of a years rent every year.. Obviously I'm grateful that he's putting me through college in the first place but it's well within his limits to let me board
