Well I am very biased but the absolute best dogs are dobermans. As far as what kind of jobs they can perform? Literally anything. Protection, herding, farm dogs, hunting dogs, search and rescue. You name it the Doberman can do it. They also are the most emotionally intelligent dog, dobermans understand their human in a way other dogs can’t. But another good option if you want it to be smaller is a German Pinscher.

And sorry it’s not a job but my own business. I create jobs for engineers. I create jobs for contractors. That’s the key you are missing here. Being an engineer is being an employee. If you really want a dog find a reputable breeder, and pay for a pure bred to support others who truly care about preserving superior genes. I believe that if you are willing to pay the 1.5-2k for a purebred dog, you will research the breed and actually care about the animal more. Dogs (bitches) are always worth it!

I only use marker theory now that I'm an experienced trainer. I personally would suggest not using positive punishment (any type of stimuli the handler adds to discourage behaviors) if the dog has weak drive it'll kill those behaviors when they can be used in positive ways.
