I don't think it's necessarily bragging so much as stating facts. Very often the assumption is that we don't do those things.

Then why do autistic girls experience more pressure to mask than boys?
/r/PurplePillDebate06/09/25 02:56 AM

In this aspect, not at all. This is just something a lot of men seem to get completely wrong about women. We can be bitter and jealous about a lot of other things, and I'll own up to that all day. But I promise you that being bitter and jealous because "the men we want" are going after girls in their 20s, and thinking of ourselves as being in competition for the same pool of men is NOT. A. THING. It just doesn't work that way. Other women here have explained why, and I agree with them. But you'r…

You don't know what kind of men we want. It's not the same ones we wanted at 25.

I don't know any couples like that, but at least for celebrity couples, I don't really see men commenting on it. What I see online is women being creeped out and pointing out the double standard.

As a single woman pushing 40, you have no clue what you're talking about.

You literally did make this up lol. She explains why she calls them terrible in the same comment, and it's not for that reason.

I've never seen that kind of moral judgment regarding a 41M / 29F age gap. I it's always when the woman is under 25

So you were just throwing around buzzwords without understanding. Got it.

On a related note, I've never seen "autistic girls are forced from a young age to be better at masking than boys because society is less forgiving of their eccentricities and difficulties with socializing" being framed as a privilege the way the OP has done here. Like he genuinely sees himself as a victim for being less proficient at masking than autistic women because the bar was always lower for him

Still not seeing how that has anything to do with toxic masculinity
/r/PurplePillDebate03/09/25 06:03 AM

It doesn't even take that much in a lot of cases. I recently learned that as many as 40% of homeless youths are LGBTQ (compared to 5-10% of their peers in the general population). Imagine abandoning your child to the world to fend for themselves because they're gay or trans and you think that's yucky
/r/PurplePillDebate12/08/25 10:36 PM

No one is "suggesting" you have sex with gay men. In fact, they're saying the opposite, that it's perfectly understandable that it's not a realistic sexual option for you, and that is the same extent to which thirsty rando men who would fuck anything that moves are not realistic options for us. Having sex with someone who you physically can not make yourself feel sexual arousal toward is a NET NEGATIVE compared to no sex at all.

I once had a boyfriend roll his eyes and sneer, "here come the crocodile tears" when I broke down during a particularly toxic argument where he had been doing a lot of name-calling. I was ugly crying with tears streaming down my face, eyes puffy and red, wiping away snot, unable to speak without choking on my words and sounding like an idiot... so I'm honestly puzzled what he thought I had to gain by being as gross and unattractive as possible at that moment. I didn't feel manipulative, I felt l…

I don't like the truth about what? I thought my reply was pretty measured and nuanced (and barely even mentioned gender), so I'm not sure where you got the impression I was in denial of anything. I'm someone who takes criticism seriously and uses it to improve myself because I'm very sensitive to it. Is that not basically what accountability is?
/r/PurplePillDebate23/07/25 11:45 PM
23

I don't think that sensitivity to criticism itself is either a good or a bad thing; I think how that sensitivity prompts you to react is what's important. If someone is highly sensitive to criticism and takes it on board to self-reflect and improve themselves, that's good. If they're highly sensitive to criticism and it only makes them triggered and defensive, that's bad. On the other side of the coin, if someone is completely unaffected by criticism and therefore never uses the opportunity to s…

I was thinking the same thing as I was going through these responses. I hooked up a lot especially in my 20s, but I can't think of a single time I wasn't tipsy or drunk. And as you said, my hookup partners ran the gamut as far as how physically attractive I would have found them sober.

The ones who are looking for short term don't really need to bother with a dating app to find it

If one of them were fat, made less money, and had a shittier personality, wouldn't that mean their partner was equivalently thinner, made more money, and had a nicer personality? So for every lesbian/bi woman with "INSANELY low standards" who is dating down, her counterpart that she's dating has equally "INSANELY high standards" and is dating up?

I don't have any hard data for you, but just chiming in to say that hasn't been my experience as a bi woman, either. I suspect what may be happening is that you're judging the female partners' attractiveness by straight male standards (traditionally feminine, petite, etc.) and assuming that just because you don't find them attractive, their partner must have really lowered their standards to be with them.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/07/25 08:14 PM

I don't think that's what they meant by "average man". They're talking about average in terms of EQ, mentality around relationships, etc. You're talking about average in terms of SMV which is a different discussion entirely.

I'm not a biologist, but in high school biology we learned that just because X chromosomes have more genetic material doesn't mean the mother contributes more of it to the child, because Barr bodies suppress much of it so that the mother and father are contributing 50/50. The entire purpose of sexual reproduction is to increase genetic variety, so it would almost defeat the purpose if the mother was contributing 90% of the genetic material as you seem to be implying.

Are you serious?? Stepdads are basically just dads if the kids are under 5 and/or their biological father is out of the picture. I was adopted by my dad when I was 2 and he's always been my one and only dad. I met my sperm donor in my early 30s after doing 23&Me, and he's a nice guy, we still keep in touch, but I call him by his first name and he'll never be a dad to me. For fuck's sake. I've seen with my own eyes multiple instances of them expressing interest in, pursuing, or dating guys who are at least a few inches shorter than them without heels. They can tell these men are shorter than they are because they have eyeballs. They've never expressed any hint of embarrassment or looking down on them (no pun intended), only "I really hope he's okay with it. A lot of guys say they are and then end up being weird about it".
/r/PurplePillDebate08/07/25 07:14 AM

🙄 I've seen them approach, flirt with, swipe right on, and yes, even date guys who are shorter than they are. That's a lot of effort just to "make women look good" or whatever

I'm short, but 2 of my closest female friends are tall (both 5'10" I think, plus thin and conventionally attractive), and they are definitely are open to dating shorter guys but are filtered out by them because of their height. I've seen it happen in real time. The only woman in my immediate friend group who's a height queen is average height herself (5'5" or 5'6") and we always tease her about it

You're the only one who has brought "selfish desires" into the conversation. OP was bringing these social roles up as things that were once GOOD FOR MEN, and the commenter asked what's stopping them from still doing these things that were GOOD FOR MEN. I agree with you, but I want to clarify about conscious attraction (personality etc etc) If I understand what you're implying here, I think for me it's the other way around. Looks are one of the qualities I'm consciously attracted to, while personality (more specifically, some certain magical combination that includes easy banter and a sense of trustworthiness) is what can sometimes unlock that unexplainable primal attraction.
/r/PurplePillDebate26/06/25 09:07 AM

What my brain finds attractive on an aesthetic level and my body is sexually attracted to on a primal level are not always aligned, I guess. Like I said, I'm puzzled by it, too.

Did I act like it was a compliment? I would never, ever in a million years divulge that to them (or anyone). If someone said that about me, I'd be horrified and probably want to kms. It happens to me all the time, normally when I have some form of interactive, intellectual or humor related chemistry with a dude, not just on sight. As a result of this, most of the men I’ve lusted after absolutely have not fit conventional standards. YES girl same! I thought it was just me. I always feel that kind of primal lust about my partner after we've started dating, but never toward strangers that I happen to pass by in public no matter how hot they are. With crushes, I think I tend to imagine making out with them, or them confessing their love to me, or other romantic/steamy situations way more than full-on sexual fantasies.

If I'm understanding your argument, you're claiming that women are less likely to run for political positions because they're biologically less risk-seeking. But in many other Western democracies, women are represented in government at near-equal proportions to men. It's particularly low in the US, where female representation has hovered around 25% for decades, with zero women ever attaining the highest office of President. The US currently ranks 76th in the world in the first metric, right next…

Sure, but my point was to challenge the assumption many men tend to make in the West that "bigger is better" is an innate preference rooted in female biology that we're all just lying about to feel virtuous. I think it's more of a cultural preference coming from men's desire to physically dominate. And even in the West it wasn't always that way, as we can see in classical Greek art depicting the ideal male form.

I'll take your word for it. As a counterpoint, porn in Japan has average sized dicks because the idea is to be relatable and allow men to project themselves onto the scenarios. I was asked by SO MANY PEOPLE when I lived there whether American men all really had such monster dongs like they do in porn, and had to explain that no, they're purposefully selected for porn to be as huge as possible because that's what men here want to see. So it's definitely culturally dependent. On a related note, Ja…

I've never been to Chicago, so maybe. I'm loosely comparing the high-crime neighborhoods of SF to the high-crime neighborhoods of other major US cities in my experience. SF has a lower homicide overall than Chicago, but a higher one than NYC for example, and a higher rate of property theft than both, so it didn't seem too wild of a reference point for the purposes of this discussion about defending one's home.

I dated a guy once who had 9 inches, and I would loathe having sex. It was nothing but pain, microtearing, and infections. He always had to go slowly and carefully, and couldn't put it in all the way. We could never just let ourselves go and feel good. Also, I usually love giving BJs but with him it was physically painful and gave me lockjaw. He said it was basically always a problem for women and seemed kind of sad about it. I think that is very good I think gender roles are pointless and dumb and women should also be chivarous toward men and propose and pay things for men on dates. I agree with all of this. I'll make it short and simple for you. Educating someone who's misinformed in an area you're experienced in =/= agenda Engaging in a debate by challenging a claim =/= insecurity Wrong and harmful claims based on shallow interactions with a few bi-identifying people =/= "the real world" I hope that's easier for you to understand.

What agenda? I don't know these people, I'm just giving you insights based on my anecdotal experience and research, the same as you are. I would think the insecure one is the one who exhibits Dunning-Kruger Syndrome and doubles down when someone who knows what they're talking about attempts to educate them. Why is it dubious, and how is that a virtue signal? I can relate to what they're saying. It's not a stretch that someone who's not so steeped in traditional gender roles and views on sexuality might be drawn to partners who are more likely to share the same outlook. Makes perfect sense to me

I don't think it's a shared mentality across all men, but I also think it's a common enough mentality even among men who consider themselves sexually progressive. I'd say something like 60/40 or 70/30 toward men who are accepting if I had to throw out a WAG. So your experience doesn't necessarily contradict mine, but I'd say there might be more to the picture that you don't see. "Can be" is pretty different than what you were implying, which is that women as a whole are hypocrites because a substantial number of them they claim to be allies while at the same time using "gay" as an insult. By that vague logic, men as a whole are hypocrites for the same reason, because although they are (presumably) less likely to call themselves allies, they are (presumably) more likely to use "gay" as an insult, and that there's still a potential that these "can be" the same people. So for the straight women who "comment on female beauty" more, it obviously doesn't translate into who they're sexually and romantically attracted to, so it's not a stretch to assume the same thing applies to bi women. In my anecdotal experience I haven't seen any clear trends like that that stand out. In fact, there are plenty of bi women who are more strongly attracted to men, but this makes them less likely to identify as bi due to imposter syndrome and/or gatekeeping. I've even seen comments…

Yeah, I don't even try to initiate anything romantic with lesbians anymore tbh. Whether it's just straight up prejudice or some kind of collective trauma around bi women, I'm terrified of making a wrong move and accidentally contributing to it lol. For me it's just been bi women and open-minded straight men so far. I haven't dated a bi man yet but really want to.

Tbf I've been seeing a LOT of backlash for that album cover from people who used to give her the benefit of the doubt ("it's satire! It's for the girlies!") and are now disillusioned and disgusted. That album cover clearly isn't satirizing anything, it's playing into it for album sales.

I doubt most women even claim to want to abolish gender norms. The ones who are grossed out by the idea of dating bi men are largely the same ones who loudly body shame short men, make jokes about penis size, and have strong opinions about what a "real man" should be. So they are backward and sexist, but consistently so. But I agree that the minority of women who see themselves as progressive about gender and sexuality yet would never deign to date a man who has been tainted by another man's dic…

But since women are way flakier in dating, I think a lot of bi women are more lesbian than bi. Just us dudes are more interested in women we are easier to get a relationship going. I don't quite follow your argument here, but I wanted to chime in that for a lot of bi people, it's not exactly like we're attracted to all genders equally so we can have our pick depending on what's easiest. Many bi people experience a stronger sexual attraction to one gender, and/or a stronger romantic attraction to…

IME many of the guys who think the idea of bi women is "hot" still wouldn't want to date one if it came down to it. The reasoning is exactly as the parent comment guessed: "she's more likely to cheat", "I can't fulfill all her needs", plus a stereotype that we're nympho sluts (which is a turnoff for some, and an exciting fantasy for others, but an unfair assumption in either case).

46% of viewers watch it for entertainment, only 7% do so for preparation. But this isn't broken down by gender, and in several places the article also gives the following: Women are 2.5 times more likely than men to consume true crime content to prepare for unsafe situations. Also, the way they're defining "true crime" seems to be way broader than the way I assume we're defining it, based on: “Inventing Anna” is the most searched for true crime content in the U.S. Inventing Anna is a documentary…

When men are more likely to be killed in a fit of rage, and women are less likely to be killed overall but when they do they are far more likely to be specifically targeted and stalked, tortured, raped, abducted or trafficked, I don't think our feelings of vulnerability are entirely unwarranted. A lot of it isn't concern, it's bitter jealousy and hate. You know this how? Even "post wall" women get more sexual attention from men than we know what to do with. So sick of reading in this sub that if a woman expresses concern over possible predatory behavior it must be because we are jealous and desperately want those creeps for ourselves. Assuming you're straight, can you describe what your marriage would have to be like in order to reach the point where you start feeling attracted to men? 90% of the nerve endings are located in the bottom 1/5 of the vagina, which is around the first 1 inch or so. The other spot that feels pleasure is the G spot, which is 2-3 inches in. So I can see how girth would make a difference for vaginal orgasms in some women, but length does not unless it's a micropenis or too big. Personally, I feel feel enough pain/discomfort to take all the enjoyment out of sex at around 7 inches. 5-6 is ideal for me.

I don't assume that. I'm just saying that if you still met the diagnostic criteria for a disorder that's characterized by intense emotional reactions that impact relationships, then that's relevant context to this discussion about how women react to healthy emotional displays. Well, no one ever said self-reflection is our strong suit 😅 Yes, there is a very actual likelihood that you were not showing healthy, regulated emotional reactions by the very definition of BPD. As someone who inhabits a lot of nerdy spaces, kinksters are nerds. Like you, I dabbled in my 20s but lost interest after too many experiences being the "one hot person" in a room full of awkward, horny weirdos. (I use "hot person" loosely, because for context I'm maybe a 7 on a good day.) I love my weirdos fr, but it's different in a sexually charged setting where they're all explicitly angling to fuck. I imagine the experience is like being one of those cosplayer girls at an anime convention, …

Yes, that is definitely a factor. This gets assumed a lot about bi women too, both from straight men and gay women. (Contrary to the stereotype of straight men being eager to date a bi woman, I would guess that at least half would refuse to for this reason)

Ah I see, I misunderstood your comment as suggesting that women are outliers among people that were beaten in childhood. My experience as a kid was similar to the above commenter's. I was seen as weird and ostracized by most other kids, but especially girls. Definitely never felt embraced by a universal "sisterhood". Plenty of girls can be really cliquey and cruel to each other. I suspect this loneliness is a common experience for children from dysfunctional and abusive homes, regardless of gend…

Fun story, I was once the target of a terrorist bomb threat for liking an Anita Sarkeesian video 😅 I was working as a game designer during gamergate on a Japanese franchise that was previously known for its campy OTT sexualized depiction of women, but was starting to change artistic direction and tone that aspect down. These were decisions being made wayyyy above my paygrade, I was only a lowly new hire doing the job I was paid to do, but since I was the only woman and only non-Japanese on the g…

My siblings and I were, by our mother. My brother got off way easy compared to us 3 girls, we believe from a combination of him being the youngest and my mom favoring boys (which he'll admit himself without hesitation). Funny enough, she used to always complain about her mother doing the same with her siblings. This nonprofit claims that girls are slightly more likely to be abused than boys (8.2 in 1,000 girls vs. 7.1 in 1,000 boys), but it seems to be combining physical abuse, sexual abuse, and…

Pretty simple stuff, look at who a young cute girl dated and then who she married, if she fails to lock down a top guy. Maybe she didn't "fail to lock down" an asshole, but it didn't work out with them because they were assholes? I think for most healthy, sane people, being an asshole precludes them from being a "top guy", the same way a selfish, entitled bitch isn't a quality woman no matter how hot she is.

"Befriend any guy who asks" is asking a bit much. We don't do that for every woman we cross paths with, either. If you treat women as any other human being with no ulterior motive and they feel safe about your intentions, then friendships should form organically the same way they do with guys. The problem is that most guys would call this "friendzoning" and see it as an insult, and they pull away when they sense it happening because the idea of female friendships with no potential to "go anywher…

Out of curiosity, did you have any male therapists? Part of the author's argument is along the lines of what you're saying, that female therapists might not always understand men's unique emotional pressures and fail to meet them where they're at. Again, psychotherapy doesn't make men into women lol. If masculinity is such a delicate construct that all it takes to deprogram it is to talk to someone, then I guess there's not much of a basis to say that masculinity is a factual inherent thing in the first place. All the pioneers in the field were educated straight men operating on scientific principles, if that helps you value it more. I don't think men need to be "more like women" whatever that means, but you might need to examine your mis…
/r/PurplePillDebate15/03/25 12:11 AM

You should examine your feelings that there's something inherently feminizing about mental health treatment. It seems to be based on your social conditioning and nothing more. If you found out your opinion is wrong and that spreading it is actively harmful to men, would you even care?
/r/PurplePillDebate15/03/25 12:00 AM

This is speaking from ignorance, pure and simple. Science disagrees with you. Human nature disagrees with you. The book explains why, if you're open to being convinced. It was written by a man who was raised to believe that depression was a women's issue and that talking about your feelings is unmasculine. His experiences with men with PTSD forced him to radically change his perspective. Being open to changing your views based on evidence and experience is an admirable thing.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/03/25 11:57 PM

And yeah surely therapist promoting noble masculinity, lol. What a bizarre thing to say. Do you think all therapists who are men got into their field to "pussify" other men, or to help people who are struggling? I suspect you're operating on some stereotypical assumptions about male mental health experts. If you actually care about men and noble masculinity, you would support the idea of separating it from the violence, anger, and self-hate that hold so many of them back. Unless you're a heartle…

What about men who were abused by their fathers? Or sexually abused? Or viciously bullied throughout their childhood? You never know what someone's been through, and if it causes them to lash out at others with rage or self-sabotage, it can only be a positive thing for everyone if they examine and address it. We don't think of self-improvement and training as a feminine trait when it's done in the gym, so why should men be shamed out of observing their self-harming patterns and consciously retra…
/r/PurplePillDebate14/03/25 11:46 PM

You're making a lot of assumptions. No one is deriding healthy or "noble" masculinity. The book is written by a man and is full of celebrations of healthy masculinity. Have you ever spent time with a male combat veteran with PTSD who struggles to function in society? Do you think they're not deserving of professional help, that they should just suck it up or else they're weak? In fact, the author's experience stems from working with these strong, heroic men and sharing what has helped them retur…

/r/PurplePillDebate14/03/25 11:25 PM

Women have much worse mental health than men I was with you up until this part. Depression in men is severely underdiagnosed, partially because they are less likely to seek mental health care and partially because their symptoms present in different ways than women's, and are more likely to manifest as anger and substance abuse issues. I think you're confused. I was responding to the idea that the equivalent of ugly men giving you attention is ugly woman giving you attention. I was pushing back on this comparison based on my experiences and understanding as a woman. I agree with everything you're saying. I've also been abused by women, and I think it's disgusting when abuse against men is dismissed. I'm strictly only describing the experience of being the more relentlessly sexually pursued sex, and why it usually feels more threatening and degrading than complimentary, since this seems to be a perspective that's confusing to most men. "Going hand in hand" is called "correlation". The basic scientific adage is "correlation is not causation". To give the famous example: Ice cream purchases are highest during the summer months. Incidents of drowning in a swimming pool are also highest during the same months. So can we conclude that ice cream consumption causes drowning? This is why causation is a claim that needs to meet a high bar of evidence. You can't make the claim "lack of sex causes X" and cite a study that proves that "la…

You're acting like a preference is the same thing as a dealbreaker. If you prefer blondes, you can still fall in love with a brunette and find them hot. If you prefer big boobs, you can still fall in love with someone who has small boobs and find them hot. Particularly if the compatibility is awesome in every other aspect that's more important to you than physical attributes. Honestly, I don't think "I'd rather avoid having too big of a height gap" is that unbelievable and absurd of a preference…

Not sure what to say to that. Seems you're really invested in not believing it. I've had LTRs with 3 guys under 5'6" and one was 6'2". He pursued me. I literally don't understand the appeal of being with someone I have to crane my neck up to look at, stand on tippy-toes to kiss, etc. It was awkward. Seeing photos of us together made me feel like a child, even though I was the older one. Admittedly it was useful that he could reach high places, though.

never heard a girl say I like him but he’s 6’2” and I just don’t like tall guys. You can hear me say it (and I've said it in this sub before): I prefer not to date tall guys. I'm 5'3". I've dated a guy once who was 6’2" (height was not an attracting factor; we were compatible in a lot of ways so I went with it) and the height difference was a bit of a pain. I prefer to date closer to my height. I've dated multiple guys the same exact height as me and liked that better. We can look into each othe…

I can't speak for other women here, but I'm here because I'm fascinated by the concept of gender and how so much of our experiences are shaped by it. Growing up, I was a nerdy loser kid. Most of my friends were guys, and my bullies were girls (including women in my family), so I developed openly misogynistic views at a young age, then in college I read The Game which influenced my views to be what we'd probably today call TRP or adjacent. As I got older and unpacked my biases, I realized that a …

I have seen a lot of women thirsting over and agreeing with each other that they think bald men are hot, dad bods are hot, etc. in primarily female spaces where they don't have anyone to impress, so I believe them. Doesn't mean it's the general trend, but it's a significant enough minority for it to be a thing. I don't share these particular preferences myself, so I don't feel virtuous in pointing out they exist (though I do have other preferences that men here don't believe me about). We are al…

You chimed into this conversation speculating that the difference between bi and pan is that bi people by definition "won't fuck trans people". I informed you that that's both a) incorrect, and b) has nothing to do with the difference between bi and pan. Your response is "well, most bi people probably wouldn't fuck trans people", which is a) arguable, b) irrelevant, and c) inconsistent with the definition of bisexuality you originally offered. I honestly don't know if that's the case or not because I haven't seen any surveys, but IME there are way more people in the bi community are open to dating trans people than in the general population. in which case you can consider bi-sexual to mean cis-gendered female or male only That's usually what straight people imagine it to mean, but I'm telling …

I think it could definitely happen in the US. Iran Awakening is a memoir by Shirin Ebadi, a Nobel peace prize winner and judge who was targeted by the regime for assassination for using her position to promote secularization and women's rights. It's complicated, but since you brought it up... The range of people that bi and pan people can potentially feel attraction toward is the same (men, women, and non-binary) but for bi people the way we experience attraction and the traits we're attracted to are different for each gender we're attracted to. For pan people, potential dating pool is the same, but the only difference is that gender doesn't factor in at all into their attraction. It's a common (and understandable) misconception, but b…

This is exactly how I understand it. The range of people that bi and pan people can potentially feel attraction toward is the same (men, women, and enbys) but for bi people the way we experience attraction and the traits we're attracted to are different for each gender we're attracted to. However, I think the parent comment was just trying to make a "there are only 2 genders durr hurr" joke based on the misconception that bisexual means attracted to 2 genders.

They have never spoken to a trans person, they have zero (0) gay friends, they lack the most basic understanding of why someone would require gender affirming care, and yet they come in here with this Dunning-Kruger "debate me bro" energy based on some outrage clickbait they came across, I guess 💀 My grandparents taught me that we have two ears and one mouth so we can listen twice as much as we speak,…

Not a single LGBTQ friend? Sounds like you live in quite a bubble. We are 7.6% of the US population, which is almost double the population of redheads. Funny that you still seem to be talking as if you're an expert, though :) not only do they regret transitioning Every medical procedure has a risk of regret. The risk for gender affirming care is actually very low compared to other medical treatments, so claiming "they regret transitioning" as a general blanket statement is pretty dishonest. Also…

You have pretty confident opinions around transitioning for someone who's never even talked to anyone who's undergone it before, and who by your own admission doesn't "get" their experiences. Do you have any openly gay friends? It may be instructive to ask them why they chose to come out, exposing themselves to ridicule, hatred, fear, possible ostracism, disappointment from family, prejudiced treatment, demeaning stereotypes, etc. etc. when it would be so much easier to live in the closet, wear …

Have you never talked to trans people? I'd say it's not an easy life because of the bigotry they have to deal with, but it would be harder not to transition so they've decided it's worth the tradeoff. You could say the same about any openly queer person. And yes you doofus, they "properly function in society" and have jobs and families lol. Are you sure you're not confusing trans people fentanyl addicts, violent sociopaths, or unmedicated schizophrenics?

That sounds similar to my family's situation, but on a more fucked up scale (my mom could be a callous bitch due to her BPD, but doesn't have ASPD, thank god). Dad had the sense to get out when I was 2 years old, after I intervened in one of their fights pleading "don't hit my daddy!" Living alone with her having primary custody was brutal, but I would never have wanted my dad to stay with her a day longer than he had to. Foot Binding is when women would wrap some shit around their feet to make them smaller ... Did you even read the wiki article you linked? It was when little girls as young as 4 would have their feet broken and deformed, and bound tightly to the point where toes would fall off, making it excruciatingly painful to walk or take off the bandages for the rest of their lives. I'd say it's more along the lines of FGM than wearing a corset or shapewear. ETA: This post is honestly the most Dunning-Kruger…

A vacancy rate of 5-10% is normal. So SF is only slightly outside that. I went with the lower figure, but it mentions in the article I linked that another organization has put it at 15%. If that figure is accurate, it's not "slightly outside normal", it's slightly over double the national average for US large cities. It’s normal for there to always be some unemployment because you cannot always instantly get a new job. As I mentioned (and as it explains in the same article), these are often unit…

12.7% of San Francisco housing was reported to be vacant in 2023. The issue isn't one of housing availability as much as it is one of housing affordability. Measures to develop more housing have been passed repeatedly and have repeatedly been shown to have no effect on the housing crisis because they are not affordable to people in insecure housing situations and not protected by rent control, etc. so they can have the rent raised by 20% and be pushed back out on the streets at any time with no …

How can you know these girls didn't have childhood trauma? Not everyone opens up easily about things like that. Obviously it's not going to be a 100% accurate predictor of what kind of relationships someone ends up in (nothing is), but childhood abuse absolutely primes people for toxic relationships as adults by 1) damaging their sense of self-worth, and 2) skewing their perspective of what they consider normal or tolerable behavior. This is basically my brand of feminism. I don't want to be put on a pedestal. I want to be seen and treated as another human being. I think everyone would benefit from adopting this mindset.

There are probably very few, if any people on this sub whose parents got married in the 50s-60s (which would make them born during the Great Depression), so saying "that was a different time" is a disingenuous way to dismiss their parents' marital success. It's more likely that they were married in the 70-90s, when divorce rates were at their peak, at least in the US. It doesn't sound like you know very many high-income women. The ones in my circles seem to fall into one of two categories when it comes to dating: Like the majority of men and women statistically, they prefer to date within their own socioeconomic class. When one partner makes a bit more than the other, the lesser earning partner (whichever it is) contributes in other ways to make up for it. You can have "common values, honor and character" and still not have a relationship work out. I would say my LTRs all had those traits, as do I. You also have to learn about yourself, do deep work to confront your weaknesses, and be constantly growing both as an individual and as a partner. Everyone in a successful marriage says the same thing, that it takes a lot of hard work. You can't just coast along, even if you're the most compatible couple with the best integrity ever.

Making his young daughter not feel uncomfortable walking into a room full of men peeing in the open, perhaps? And I've never seen or heard of women getting upset over a man accompanying his young daughter using the women's restroom. We bring our young sons in their too, so it's pretty normal to us to think of it as "women + mixed gender parents and kids". Plus, I often see men complaining that women's restrooms are usually the only ones with a diaper changing station, so I imagine that's probabl…

Just because some women might scope out a guy's bulge while he's fully clothed (the same way a man might dart his eyes down before catching himself if he's talking to a woman with visible cameltoe or nipples poking through her shirt) doesn't mean we're in the bathrooms craning our necks at a really obvious and awkward angle to try and get the briefest glimpse of a segment of flesh from the side of a flaccid dick while urine is actively streaming out of it

Was there a corresponding study of men's daily self-reported food intake? I suspect this specific example is more of a general human nature thing. There is an entire dieting strategy based on journaling your regular food intake without trying to make other any changes. I keep hearing about how people report weight loss just from employing this habit, and how surprised they are to see the disconnect between how they thought they were eating and how they were actually eating, but I've never seen a…

I used to assume this was the case, but it doesn't really pan out that way. IME nice guys who feel like they are "dating up" with you lookswise are often quick to self-sabotage and exhibit controlling, belittling behavior because they can't handle the insecurity. I'm the type to only have eyes for the man I'm with and to lavish compliments and love, so I never gave them any reason to feel insecure or distrust me. They would recognize that I wasn't doing anything wrong and it was all their own pe…

"Outliers. Virtue signalers." Or my favorite, once you show them studies that confirm your anecdotal experience: "Women are experts at lying to themselves. What they think they want is rarely in line with what they actually want subconsciously. Even on anonymous surveys they'll lie because they want to think of themselves a certain way" So not only are we lying when we say something that doesn't line up with their narrative, but we're lying about lying, and then lying to ourselves about it.

I would say the opposite, actually. In the bigger camp I was giving words (making jokes and giving compliments that cast it in a positive light), while in the 5.5 camp I give actions (actively seeking out and enjoying sex with a size that feels best for me, while avoiding it when the size is too big). I realized the words were reinforcing a harmful narrative about a decade or two ago, which is why I've adjusted accordingly and push back now (and type paragraphs about my honest thoughts and exper…

Not that many. It’s a tiny percentage of people who are sexually attracted to children. And you mean they start receiving sexual attention when puberty starts? Well yeah, that’s the whole point of puberty. I remember at 10 years old the pain and awkwardness of my breast buds starting to grow in, and how men of various ages including trusted family friends would openly fixate on my (clothed) chest. I was a small child, always the smallest in my class, and I still played with Barbies and slept wit…

Nobody sexualises young girls chests Apparently OP is under the impression that taking a photo of a shirtless young girl would put you in possession of child porn, so either society is sexualizing it or he is. I didn't care to fact check my local laws because 1) I don't care to be put on a watchlist and 2) I was SA'd by a grown man as a kid so the whole topic makes me feel sick.

Nah, it's clear that the average age for women's first marriage has increased since 1990, and that technology has increased the accessibility of discreet hookups at a moment's notice, so your overall point about the numbers most likely being higher today is valid. I definitely agree about porn being a factor. In Japan, I noticed that male porn stars are mostly expected to be relatable rather than aspirational, so you see a lot of videos shot from the POV of average sized, average looking guys. I also think the public bathing culture (which is fully nude and not separated by gender until around puberty) contributes to a more realistic view of "average" and a healthy acceptance of diversity, whereas in the US most of us only have porn as a basis for compari…

Real talk, just purely speaking for myself, I am one of the women you're describing. I genuinely prefer 5.5 inches over 7 inches, it's the perfect size to me. I honestly hate having to be overly cautious and slow during sex, not being able to let go and lose myself in the moment, and feeling in pain for a day afterwards. I wouldn't say women have less leverage because of prostitution, though. In the dating game they still hold all the cards we do in the US, and can afford to keep their standards as high. Sure, it's a lot better than no sex, but getting strung along by someone you're all in on who's not on the same page is a sad experience regardless of gender. I've seen it play out with male friends, and …

What? I'm specifically talking about the case where they are having sex, which is what the parent comment asked about Sometimes fucking someone who worships the ground you walk on falls into the "validation and ego boost" category

That makes sense. This sub is making me start to suspect I'm a bit of an outlier because my type isn't the typical Chad that all the women are supposed to be competing over, and I have sort of a manic pixie dream girl vibe where guys put me on a pedestal and convince themselves I'm "the one" before they've even really gotten to know me, so typically I'm the one trying to deescalate things when they're catching feelings too fast. The truth is probably somewhere on the intersection of "my experien…

Hurting myself how? I'm happily in a relationship, with no lack of options in men when I was single (ETA: and bisexual so the issue doesn't affect me as much anyway), but thanks for your concern I guess.

This same exact scenario has happened to me (with the genders swapped) more than once. It's quite possible that it happens more often with the man being the one avoiding commitment, but that could also be confirmation bias at play because it's the trope we're always fed. I'd be interested to see a current study of the gender breakdown in these kind of one-sided situationships.

If a woman is handing out pussy with or without commitment who is winning there? Both of them, because it's a mutual arrangement? You seem to operate on the assumption that women sleep with men to entice them into a relationship, which I think is outdated and out of touch. Sometimes women sleep with men because they want to sleep with them. They aren't always worth being in a committed relationship with.

Yes, but I think we would frame it differently in that case: "He's infatuated with her, but she just keeps him around for validation and an ego boost while fucking Chad on the side"

No worries. I'm glad to see we're pretty much on the same page. Both groups trying to one up the other in a team men vs team women imaginary competition Well said. I really hate this as well. always the underlying message of “women don’t need men but men need women so you better watch your step because we hold the power” I can see where you're coming from. Personally I've always read it more as, "throughout western civilization we've always had to be dependent on men, and were taught that ou…

I appreciate the correction, although you might want to chill out a bit, maybe spend some time outside. No one is gloating or relying on a "fairy tale" for an "ego boost", lol. I'm just speculating about factors that might contribute to OP's study, just like everyone else in this thread. Regardless of your marital status, you must be pretty miserable to interpret strangers' intentions so cynically. I still don't think we can conclude that women "hit a wall" in their dating lives based on this da…

Exactly, the article doesn't mention whether these men and women are single by choice or actively looking for relationships. It seems to be widely accepted in this sub that women are generally more okay with being single than men, and single women are statistically happier and healthier on average than married women, when the opposite is true for men. So seeing all the 30+ single women my first thought is not that they've hit a wall and are crying alone at home with their cats, but that more and…

fyi, I think you mean well-kempt. Well-kept is what you'd say about a garden that's kept neat and tidy, an antique that's kept in good condition, or a tightly guarded secret. Not really about a person since that's not something that's 'kept'

I'm lol'ing at your comment based on my dating history. I probably wouldn't be attracted to someone shorter than me just because I'm already short (5'3") and I think the only men shorter than that would be the ones with dwarfism which is a different issue entirely. I've dated multiple men the same height as me (shorter when I'm wearing heels), and didn't mind at all. I prefer that to the 6'+ guys. The fact that the relationships ultimately didn't work out doesn't disprove that those are the men she was attracted to and chose over others. You can add me to the list of "super rare exceptions" of women who would choose 5'10" over 6'+ in a heartbeat, all other things being equal. I feel like I'm making this same comment every other day, but TRP men still won't hear that we exist and it's not an uncommon preference

it’s a ridiculous take that just because you found one example that this discounts the fact that women don’t write these songs as often as men. Gives one (1) example by a man, asks where these songs are by women (rhetorically implying that there are none), downvotes me for providing the same number of examples as he did lol Google is free, you know: "Sweetest Devotion" by Adele "Lions & Tigers" by Sleater-Kinney "Mouth's Cradle" by Björk "Lullaby" by Dixie Chicks "Speechless" by Alicia Keys "The…

Most of my LTRs were with guys under 5'5 (I'm 5'3), and I in no way was settling for any of them. I actively prefer men who are closer to my height. My current partner is 5'6 and is the hottest guy in the world to me. Like 5'8 isn't even short, it's average or above average if anything, so your story about the guy going to a prostitute out of desperation probably had nothing to do with his height

I had to scroll way too far down to see someone acknowledge that it's exactly the same for women. I'll go out on a limb and say I was never considered conventionally attractive until around my late 20s. It took many years of learning and effort to become a more dateable version of myself, both physically and mentally. Here are some of the things I've done over the years to become worthy of that "unconditional love" that supposedly comes so effortlessly to women: - Spend thousands of dollars over…

men who are looking for a woman to be their second mother. This is the from top-level comment you were originally responding to. Most men do not want someone to clean up their messes and cook for them every day. Right, so most men aren't "man-children". That's why we have a special word for the ones that are. But there are enough of them that we have invented a word to describe them.

Exactly this. When I'm in an environment where men might feel emboldened to approach, catcall, or stare, I dress conservatively and don't wear makeup because I really dislike that kind of attention. If it's an environment where I feel safe to dress how I like, I'll dress to the nines and be a little more bold in showing off the assets. In these situations I can feel myself being more confident, outgoing, and bright. If I catch myself in a mirror or in photos later, I feel good about myself. That…

I agree with her point that there's nothing bad about being average-looking, but then she kind of shot her own argument in the foot by using 8/10 as the example of a rating we shouldn't be offended by because "then you're in the top 20% of beauty". Um, what? Surely she meant that we shouldn't be offended about being a 5/10 or 3/10 or 1/10 because it is what it is and a woman's value is defined by much more than her adherence to conventional beauty standards, not because it still means we're supp…

We don't, lol In fact, most of us probably suffer from some degree of internalized misogyny. If you're like me, you try to notice it and root it out of yourself as much as you can, but it's very deeply engrained in some people. The culture of women pumping up their own self-esteem and that of other women is supposed to be a small pushback to this. The millions of small cultural messages that women who don't make men feel a certain way are worthless still pervade our culture, and it's hilariously…

I believe that you are under the impression that if women hate themselves you’ll have a better chance attracting them since they will be resigned to only focus on average men Well said. I'm reading that exact sentiment in a lot of these comments. It's often disguised as concern for the "less objectively hot" women who will up alone due to their unrealistic sense of entitlement, which is hilarious.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/01/24 04:45 AM

I wouldn't say it's competitive, more akin to negging. I always feel like the guys who ask women to rate themselves are seeking that smug schadenfreude of putting an overconfident person in their place. Like, "Let's see if she's properly insecure and not too full of herself. If she rates herself too highly, we all need to ridicule her until she's humbled. We can't be having ugly women feeling self-esteem that they don't deserve!"

This is such a warped perspective to me. First of all, are men still talking about "alpha" and "beta" shit based on debunked observations of maladaptive behaviors of captive wolves like it's 2010? Basing your self-image around those kind of pop-psych manufactured insecurities is way more pathetic and embarrassing than masturbation, which is a natural thing that probably every human being does.
