It's not people who are currently doing worse, it's players who have achieved low maximum skill levels overall. To be honest, the study is pretty limited imo, even though it happens to agree with my position.

I have seen references like "if I were Chad Thundercock, she would have behaved differently" whether it be giving oral sex more often, not leaving, not "shit testing" or whatever. There's definitely a mythology surrounding the red pill. Shared myths are of vital importance to communities and perhaps the shared myths of the red pill go some way to explaining its success. Chad Thundercock is just the main character of a number of parables of the red pill. To say that e.g. Michael Jordan is Chad or…

There are some things TRP get right. I think your relationship with yourself is very important, for example. They might not word it like that but their advice seems to be to work on yourself somehow. My personal pet theory is that the solution will have a lot to do with media. A better target than getting men achieving those goals is to get them to have different goals. The media pushes the idea that you can't be happy outside of a relationship and that you should be having sex as much as possib…

Yes sorry potential was a poor word choice. In my scenario the guy has not been honest with the girl. The reason I gave my own experience is because I am wary of creating a straw man. I think it's very common for people to observe that their current lover has a different view about something important (e.g. what constitutes cheating, what the long term future of the relationship is) but to avoid talking about it. They then claim ignorance and maybe even convince themselves that they did nothing …

Is this what you say to the guy in my question? Or to a potential lover who had differing feelings. If the former I don't understand. If the latter, I agree and this is the sort of conversation I've had in the past. In one case casual sex was maintained for a little while, before geography got in the way. In some others they didn't want to sleep with someone who wasn't aiming for a lifelong relationship.

It's nothing personal! My strong dislike is not enough for me to want it to go away. Even the extremely poor rigour is not enough for me to want it to be shut down by some authority. I am very Voltairean in that respect. I want it gone because I believe it is making a lot of people act on very bad reasoning and evidence. The only method I would employ to shut it down would be a healthy dose of reason and evidence. If that doesn't do the trick, then it will have stood the test and I will merely p…

wow, way to take a quote out of context! "I would like to shut down any sphere of human interaction." is a gross misrepresentation of what I said and you damn well know it. Any place where anecdotal evidence is nodded along to should be changed, do you not agree?

That's a good answer, and applies very generally I think. I made the same comment elsewhere, but just so you definitely get it: I have in the past stopped having sex with someone, or not had sex with them at all, because I could tell that they thought it was more serious or wanted something more serious than I did. I think that flies in the face of Red Pill thinking doesn't it? You should just keep having sex with her, and not care about her feelings? Ok so what would you say if you met a guy wh…

The number of guys who are natural alphas, and who innately use red pill tactics far outnumber actual TRPers I agree with this. I really like this question. I find it difficult to answer. I would want to steer him away from it, but I wouldn't directly. It's pretty easy to point out some flaws in TRP, my bugbear is the lack of rigour. No one even questions the wetdreams field reports any more. Follow up question for RP, what if you have a teenage daughter who comes to you saying she had slept with a redpiller and felt she had been manipulated and badly treated? What would you say to her? Would you shrug your shoulders and…

I think the claim is that TRP defends itself against accusations of misogyny by saying that it is mainly about self improvement. Or something like that. I've not seen anyone say that TRP claims to be self improvement upfront with a secret misogyny vein. After all, the metaphor of the red pill is that there is some truth to which men must wake up; that truth is that all women try to fuck alphas and then ensnare betas as providers later, that AWALT, etc. Even the lifting fetish is clearly about at…

I think that's also a fair analogy in terms of what TRP is attempting socially. I meant merely as a debating analogy, the blue pill attempts to take the default skeptical position. How much success they achieve is another debate.

I think we may have reached an impasse. If The feminine imperative is nothing more than AFBB then what is the connection between that and e_s's comment that he didn't want to be an asshole based on the definition that is apparently a part of the female imperative? In context it seems to me that he meant something more like "female agenda" and indeed that is what Rollo Tomassi seems to be getting at here Be warned it's pretty much unreadable, and never actually gives a full definition, but he tal…

This really isn't the place for a discussion that I would have to begin with "what does it mean to have a gender?" There are certainly ways you can group large groups of men and large groups of women based on biology. To give the most oversimplified version of my case: we already had gender before we had biological sex. The human beings who devised those groupings were not operating in a vacuum, nor were there descriptions god-given. They also overlooked the human beings who have no reproductive…

I am similarly in the dark about the feminine imperative, I did a bit of digging on Rollo Tomassi's site but he does blather on without getting to the point! No clear definition I'm afraid. But exit_sandman pretty clearly said that the assumption you mention was based on not being an asshole. Which in turn he mentioned being defined in terms of how women want him to behave. That men espouse the assumption also is irrelevant to this discussion.

I should have responded to this before Villaintine's comment sorry i didn't see this in time. Let's not go off on a big tangent on that part of the thread. You've gone into a lot more detail than people usually do and I feel I owe you a similarly detailed response. Due to time constraints I might not get there, but feel free to contact me directly if you are interested in discussing this further. The common ground here is that we can agree that women could find that attractive. Whether or not the proposition that we are essentially gendered holds is another debate. You will have to do better than calling the position delusional.

Yes, although I'll give you that it was implicit. He is claiming that his view of how he should behave and what sort of relationships he should have was because of an arbitrary ruling courtesy of the "feminine imperative". In other words he was acting based on what he perceived women wanted him to do. When I say "blame women" I don't mean that in the sense of "well I can't blame them for trying" I mean shifting responsibility.

I think you are right about the motivations of TRPers. But when you say women's shortcomings and actions, do you still perceive it that way? That women have shortcomings and bad behaviours and you are just mad at yourself for not recognising that? It seems to me that the apparent gains of TRP - focusing on your relationship with yourself, thinking independently about gender roles, etc. - can be achieved without any of the other stuff. Furthermore, those things are only on the surface of TRP. In …

So, you avoided certain types of social contracts because you made an assumption about the desires of the other party? I'm sorry that that closed some paths to happiness for you. But I don't understand how you end up blaming women for that? Like even if specific women in your life taught you to behave that way, surely the blame lies with a) an education system that doesn't teach people to think for themselves and b) a social construct that says men must behave a certain way and women must behave…

It depends more on your definition of "nice guy". You can easily get laid without being an asshole. In TRP parlance, that's just a different sort of game. A good decent man with purpose and passion who believes women and men are not essentially different can (pretty obviously, imo) be sexy to a lot of people. The term nice guy conjures up a desperate groveller, who does favours for people and then sulks when the returned favour isn't sex.

Blue Pill is pretty poorly defined. I think TRPers will hate this analogy, but for me TBP is to TRP as atheism is to theism. In other words, the blue position is merely that TRP spouts a load of nonsense and TBP needn't offer "an alternative" to point that out. I don't subscribe to either, perhaps my above analysis strikes most of you as more purple than blue, I am not sure. I don't like labels just ideas. I reckon TRP will burst once they start demanding good evidence and reason. It shouldn't t…

Well you might be able to support a statement like "all other things being equal, married couples become complacent more often than unwed couples" or that they are more likely to breakup, but I am not sure I would be very convinced of a causal link. For me, you would have to have random couples who were not going to get married and have half of them get married, and also have random couples who were going to get married and have half of them not get married, and look at the rates of breakup in t…

This seems to be my observation too - however that is purely anecdotal and it is really difficult to do the control experiment. You can't prove that marriage broke someone up really.

I can have a tolerant sensible discussion with anybody. I think the Red Pill is incorrect and contains a lot of immorality. It is based on some fundamentally shaky premises (e.g. using evolutionary biology to justify any sort of human behaviour; that we have essentially gendered souls; their valuation of sex and of people based on sex) that I do not think anyone has even attempted to justify. In a very general sense, I would like to shut down or radically reform any sphere of human interaction w…

All married couples logically fall into one of the following categories Stay together, but would have stayed together if they hadn't married Get divorced, but wouldn't have stayed together if they hadn't married Get divorced, but would have stayed together had they not got married Stay together, but would have split up if they hadn't got married In the first two cases marriage has no effect. I would have thought most people would inflate their numbers, but it seems the suspicion here is that people are decreasing them. One of my exes had put on okcupid that lower than 10 would basically be a deal breaker (there is an okc question about it they didn't just put it in their profile). I only actually found that out after we broke up and we had never discussed the number. They were shocked to find out I had only been with a handful of people at the time though. I suppose what I meant by that is: why is that desirable? Why do you want someone who has not had sex before. If you were going to be partners in doubles tennis, you wouldn't want her to be someone who had never played tennis before.

The patriarchy. Next. Ok that should get some attention. Collins1 argues that, in an economic world completely dominated by men (women not being able to own property etc.) the best strategy for a woman is to appear as attractive and as unattainable as possible. The only way for a woman to get a stable income was through a marriage contract, but men and women were basically bargaining with unequal goods. 1 Collins, R.; A Conflict Theory of Sexual Stratification, Social Problems Vol. 19, No. 1 (Su…

I don't post here much, but I think it is important to engage with people with different opinions to yours. On the red pill subreddit, it is made clear that the ideas put about are to be treated as dogma and not questioned. You never see people citing proper studies or using formal logic, you never even see people request that statements are backed up in any way. People who disagree with them are not allowed to comment. The differences are qualitative as you say. Probably easier to talk about the opposite concept: the oppression of different marginalised groups. But let's not do the oppression olympics. Everyone gets a gold medal, and yet somehow nobody wins. Powerful groups will always make sure that their own interests are most peculiarly attended to. We need to make sure that the people we put in charge are as diverse as the population because otherwise the interests of people who are not white, able-bodied,…

I am suddenly reminded of a bit of a discworld novel where stray dogs in Ankh-Morpork have created a violent feral society based on what they imagine wolves are like. They believe themselves to be wolves, at heart, who have been tamed by humans. But in fact, as Pratchett points out, wolves don't have any of the traits that the dogs imagine. They also have no names but that's where the parallels seem to run out. Could Pratchett have predicted TRP? But to answer your question: in the context of th…

Someone already said RP suffers from a loose definition problem. But there are some common values and assumptions that all RPers hold. One is that men and women are inherently different. They believe that something in the essence of a woman has a different quality to that of a man. Short of a few really esoteric differences in brain composition (more or less white matter or grey matter things of that nature) there is really very little evidence for this claim. There is evidence that men and wome…

I typically won't be interested in someone unless they have similar ambition and passion to me, and excellence or any kind of strength is always sexy. It would be churlish not to admit that for women, being successful can put certain men off. But here's the thing: if you have ambition and value success, why would you want to attract that sort of man?

So you can't see that anyone can call their own favoured viewpoint "the final stage" and create a list like this? Ok then. People are effected by their environment all the time, I hope we can agree on that. When confronted with a difference between two groups of people, either this is caused by different environments, or you have to posit some special piece of brain chemistry or gendered soul or something like that. In other words, you have to make a positive claim that something exists that so …

I am happy to continue but I don't have a lot more to say :) I would disagree with you about socioeconomics trumping gender or race really. Just to compare black people and white people (but similar results exist for other races) let me give you two statistics: White people with a criminal record are more likely to be hired than black people without one1 White college dropouts have more wealth than black college graduates2 At the very least, this suggests that race is an enormous…

I wouldn't make an attempt at oppression olympics don't worry. I think this comes down to a difference in opinion over the term "oppression" I think this is a stronger (read: more restrictive) term than mere negative effects. I should have made that clearer in my response to your previous comment. A good example of what I am talking about is recent criticism of Patricia Arquette. That is sound but invalid in my opinion. What oppression does being male expose one to? Just pre-emptively want to exclude things like "having sex as often as one would like or with whom" and "positive discrimination from jobs because of quotas". Sorry if you would never dream of saying something so stupid but someone else might leap in with that sort of nonsense. The first is not a right one has or an obligation others have. Suppose C is a class of people. What I mean by "C is an oppressed class" is that being a member of C exposes you to some oppression. In other words "In C implies oppressed" holds. If even one member of C experiences no oppression, then C cannot be an oppressed class. I argue that, even if there are anecdotal cases of powerful women, being female exposes them to a form of oppression - their voice is underrepresented, their position requires more energy to maintain and to achieve, they are constan…

What? But then the question just boils down to "does any oppressed group contain men?" which is pretty clearly a yes. Unless you believe that no oppression is happening ever. The question must be interpreted as "does being a man make you an object of oppression?" or "is the class of people denoted by 'Men' an oppressed group?" otherwise it is rendered meaningless.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/03/15 11:44 AM

Your definition of oppression isn't quite right. Surely oppression must come from a powerful group to a powerless one. In our roughly representative democracy, any social group's power is defined by their representation. The male voice is represented at every level of government, at every level of business (every powerful level of business) and at every level within the media. It is difficult to imagine that being male would make you the subject of oppression.

Because you ultimately think of women as objects without individual agency. Women are exactly as diverse as men. So your question is meaningless. Why do horses have brown hair when we all know horses have black hair?

Both sides of this is hella straw man/ad hominem. Your third point isn't nearly so water-tight as you think. You're implicitly making hasty generalisations about both groups. Countering that sort of reasoning is not the same as no true scotsman And as for your last point - "rejecting reality"? Difficult to know where to begin on that, in terms of debating anyway.

It's not poetry. It's a speech. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ain't_I_a_Woman%3F Part of my original point was that these things are just correlated. You might find that the average white person is far better educated than the average black person. This could lead you to deduce that white people do better at education. This is already flawed, but you could go even further and say that it is an essential part of the white person's make up to be more academic. But it turns out that there are all so…

It's not the case that men outperform women physically 99% of the time. You're thinking of physical tasks that men are trained to be better at doing from a very early age. Young boys are doing pushups and being taught that their masculinity is tied in with their upper body strength, young girls are taught something completely different about the value of their bodies. The language they use (plates, frame, etc.) are indicative of their attitude. They dehumanise women (as so many perceived enemies have been demonised throughout history) and the very process of relationships. I know people who have done research into Men's Rights, PUA, Incel, and a bunch of related things (from a performance theory point of view, and from a sociological point of view).
