Yikes...it sounds like it's not as good an idea as I first thought then! I'll do some reading up on pivots (from MrRisky's advice) and bear this in mind.

I have the opposite...lack of food equates to a bad, withdrawn mood. Mild hypoglycemia ftl!

Try teens and early to mid twenties. I'll catchup one day though, I'll make sure of it. :)

Wow. Even an AFC such as myself was cringing reading them. Is it just me or do all the lines starting with "oh my god" sound really camp when you read them?

I've tried faking it, but find it hard to fake it and be congruent. Still too easily thrown out of a fake confident frame!

I guess if you didn't recognise the material, you could always ask more questions about it (what's it about? who's the author?) and go from there; the book's just a prop you can use to move onto other conversational topics. What struck me about my friend opening was how quickly he move on from the confident opening into dialogue - "oh, you're an actress? cool. what's the play about?". To the more seasoned of you, please forgive me, but it blew my mind to see someone open on the Tube and not be b…

I'm working on the light kino - arm touches, high gives, quick arm-around-the-shoulder hug after teasing the girl, etc, but I'm finding it hard to push it on further than that, as I can never tell if I should wait for some form of reciprocation or not. Innuendo is an definitely art-form unto itself. Funnily enough, I was at the pub with a couple of female friends last night and we were playing scrabble - I made some innuendo out of one of the words put down, and started playing somewhat risqué w…

Interesting. i.e., by asking that question, I'll presumably start to think about how I'll stop being beta by answering the when?

I'm getting better at giving my own opinion, actually. I was at the Tate Modern with the HB I mentioned in another comment, and despite the rest of my game being horrible being able to discuss art (no matter how ignorant and naïve my knowledge of art is!) provided a good basis to explain what I liked and what I didn't like. Discovering who I am is something I definitely need to work on; I definitely have a lack of certainty there...the typical mid-to-late twenties disillusionment with post-Uni l…

If they're reading something, it presents a good opening. A friend of mine that I didn't realise was into PUA/seduction made my jaw drop on the tube a while back at how easily he opened with it...we both got on together, and sat down. Little did I notice he purposely sat down next to a cute girl. Straight in with the 3 second rule, he looks over her shoulder at her, sees she's reading something, then makes an obvious move to read it - "why are you reading a script?" - "I'm an actress, I'm trying…

Thanks for the tips - I glossed over ROTG once without giving it much chance, I'll take another look. Helmstetter's "What To Say When You Talk To Your Self" was on my 'to read' list as it happens, so I"ll see if I can track down this other book too.

Totally agree with everything you're saying - I know I have to lose my inhibitions and be willing to make mistakes, the problem I'm having is that I'm finding it hard to, for want of a better term, 'let go of my betaness'. I'm not sure how to go about relaxing and allowing my inhibitions to disappear...I'm after a strategy to achieve that, I guess.

I can't say for sure if there's a tangible moment in time when it starts to fall apart, but I guess it varies from scenario to scenario. If I just meet a girl and I'm not able to instantly make an impression, then I'll default to 'nice'. Even if I've known the girl for a little while and had IOIs, etc., I can still fall back to this mode when I run out of things to say or feel like things are going awry. For example, I was hanging out with a HB this weekend who's a fair bit younger than I am and…

Yeah, a bite-sized approach might be more appropriate. I do feel a bit overwhelmed with material, and the associated constant self-correction across such a broad range (all the way from body language, intonation to kino and flirting) can be a bit draining to the point where it can be counterproductive ("argg, I'm doing it all wrong!"). Devising a step-by-step approach might be tricky, but it could be worthwhile..

I seem to consistently fall back into typical beta/AFC style behaviour through nerves, mainly. It's the usual stuff - I seem to lose the ability to be witty and banter with/tease the girl as I kinda fear saying/doing the wrong thing too much. I avoid innuendos/advances...I can sometimes manage to kino, but this comes off as contrived/slightly over the top (I think, anyway). I fill awkard silences. As it becomes apparent that what I'm doing isn't working, then this only serves to make me more ris…

Excellent advice right there. I've (unsurprisingly, given my innate AFCness!) been LJBF'ed more often than not in the past and also done the whole lying to myself to see if she'll come around....as you say, she won't, it's game over. My usual reaction at this point is to just drop her to avoid any further hurt. I'm still undecided about whether I'll do that this time around, but the idea of manning up and admitting to her that I like her kinda appeals. Making sure I don't allow myself to be in t…

Having spent years taking the opposite approach, it's dawning on me lately that getting all bitter and upset about where I've gone wrong isn't going to help fix the clear problems I have with women. After enough rejections (even at the low frequency of women I meet at the moment), I feel I'm reaching a point where learning about the process is more important than the outcome. Pragmatism is the order of the day - I know I'm a decent, fun and interesting chap - I just need to work on my skills on …
