I got banned for suggesting that sometimes women are unable to take compliments because they can have self-esteem issues (because that's how I was and why I was that way.) I didn't even say always. There is a huge difference between chopping off a grown body part and manipulating genetics to where that body part doesn't grow in the first place. Affect is a verb. An Action. Effect is a noun. You're using it correctly. The verb in that sentence is "would affect", even though it gets weird when you throw in an extra word in between them (which I think isn't technically allowed, but it's colloquial enough and a weird enough tense that no one remembers the name for it, so you get a free pass.)

The differences between men and women’s choices in majors are less exaggerated when viewed in terms of department popularity instead of sex representation. Sixty percent of men and 50 percent of women are enrolled in the same six majors: history, political science, English, psychology, biology and economics. Interesting study, but other factors that have been shown to effect neuronal development in rats is the amount of stimulation from the environment in general. Here's a summary of several studies on the matter. So, perhaps in a less stimulating environment parental influence matters more, as it is the only source of stimulation. I don't know that either of them is able to fully understand the ramifications. My best friend knew quite a lot about sex at 13; she listened to Love line all of the time. But was she prepared emotionally to actually have sex? No. (And she was intelligent enough to know that.) But it varies for some people, and really needs to be on a case by case basis. In my opinion, the lower age limit is the onset of secondary sex characteristics. (It's a nice biological standard, so why not?) That's the best I've got. There isn't one age where someone can suddenly consent. These things are gradual, as is development.
