To me it all comes from materialism, that anything that isn't us is seen as an object by definition. The reality is that everything you see is a part of you. Better put, if a tree falls in the forest and you aren't around to hear it, did it even fall?

Hey man the girl of your dreams could be overweight I met this girl that was definitely heavy set, we were friends, but the food she made was some of the best food over ever eaten in my entire life. She also had an amazing work ethic and was very smart.

If there's an obstacle in your path, move it, or move around it otherwise you'll end up going backwards. That can be applied to anything in life. As for her being uncomfortable, build a bond, or be her friend. It might sting but you should have the mentality that is okay to want things from other people but never need anything.
