She said she would be devastated if we split

I understand what you’re saying. Yeah, it’s hard to predict the way things will go in earlier phases of a relationship/marriage. We’ve had a lot of issues, and it is starting to make less sense to stay together/suffer for the rest of our lives just for the sake of not breaking some man-made socially constructed concept that goes against our biological imperative as humans

And I do understand how me coming in this group naively talking about how I don’t care so much about custody would piss some dads the fuck off, I get it now and I apologize for not thinking about what I posted more throughly. I am still in the very early stages of even thinking about divorce, and honestly don’t really know what the hell I’m doing or feeling. But I wanted to reach out anyway. I love my daughter so much it hurts to think about leaving her. And I will not let that happen. I will ma…

Sounds like you had a really rough experience, and this topic in general may be triggering for you. And not everyone’s situation is the same

Again didn’t say I was going to walk away.

I’m not walking away. Never said that. I was naive about what custody meant in the beginning, but you took it as I was planning on leaving my daughter which I will never do.

Thank you. Yeah it seems like there’s some hot-headed, jaded ass people here who just wanna jump the gun and judge and point the finger. I love my daughter so much it hurts to think about leaving this marriage, which is why I came here in the first place - to seek guidance and support. I appreciate your support and understanding that yes, there are MANY details I didn’t include on the original post. Seems like some people need to grow up.

I wasn’t fully aware of what custody was when I originally posted this. I did more research. Still very much in the beginning/contemplation phase of all this. Chill out

I think I was confusing custody with visitation, and understand what they are a little more now. I will definitely fight for split custody. I want to be in my daughters life regularly and continue to provide for her. I make her breakfast/lunch for school, get her ready every morning/take her to school, teach her music, give her medicine, buy her all kinds of stuff, read to her, etc. I love her more than anything and I feel like I should’ve included more details in my original post because you se…

Sex was definitely not forced when we first met, and wasn’t for a long time. And when the sex was like that, so was the hanging out, affection, intimacy, etc.. (unforced/natural).

There’s a lot of honest opinions on here and yours is just one of them. And I didn’t say I was just going to willingly give her full custody. Seems like you’ve decided that I fit a very particular mold of dead beat dad which I’m not. I take care of my daughter every day, make her lunch and breakfast, get her ready in the morning/take her to school, play music with her, read to her, buy her tons of stuff, make sure she gets medicines when she’s sick, etc. maybe you need to consider that you’re no…

I feel like if the love was still there, “putting in work” wouldn’t feel forced

I guess I may not fully understand custody and its implications. My wife has said that if we do ever split she would want full custody but would allow me to see our daughter whenever I wanted. I was thinking maybe at least once a week for dinner and some weekends. Im not sure what you mean by blindsiding with my inheritance, she is aware I’m getting the house and a substantial amount of money (eventually)

I don’t know if I even care so much about custody. I’d still like to be in my daughters life regularly, but she is definitely the primary caretaker. And she makes more than me.

She will never sign over full custody, in fact she wants full custody
