UK: Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murderIf most men aren’t the problem, then why would educating them “change them?” Educate everyone from a young age about the importance of consent etc, I struggle to see the issue with this. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of sexual harassment/assault crimes where men are witnesses. Plenty of men who can agree this is a problem. You seem to be suggesting that teaching everyone about consent is not a solution - that it should be up to men to decide what a woman is comfortable with, or not. If anyone does… | /r/MensRights | 12/03/21 08:39 AM
UK: Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murderI completely understand the logic behind that statement. Like are you not suggesting women are responsible (I.e should take defence classes) in order to avoid rape (predominantly by men) | /r/MensRights | 12/03/21 02:00 AM
UK: Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murderI think you’re misunderstanding victim blaming - teaching women self defence isn’t bad, I think most would take up classes if offered. However, if a woman is raped and you say it’s because she didn’t take these self-defence classes, that is surely victim blaming (by definition) | /r/MensRights | 12/03/21 01:38 AM
UK: Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murderI just don’t think people are born rapists (of course there’s psychopathic tendencies etc that people can be born with). It’s such a complex issue but it’s clear there’s a culture allowing this sort of evil to happen so often. We need solutions that prevent individuals becoming rapists I agree rape isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, particularly as so many don’t want to acknowledge it’s even an issue. I think rape is so much more than just a bad thing to happen to someone as well (assuming you w… | /r/MensRights | 12/03/21 01:05 AM
UK: Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murderThis review concisely summarises some of the qualities an effective prevention strategy might have: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5875446/ I’m curious to know how many victims it will take for you to believe this a serious issue? | /r/MensRights | 12/03/21 12:44 AM
UK: Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murderIf that’s the most effective strategy then absolutely. I’ve already explained why I think there may be better ones - I think we all need to be open minded about what these might be. Is 970 women not significant enough for you? I would also be interested to see the results of a survey on a much larger scale, but I have suspicions that even then this wouldn’t be enough for you. Minimising the problem isn’t going to help anyone asides from rapists themselves | /r/MensRights | 12/03/21 12:23 AM
UK: Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murderWomen aren't looking for methods to be happier they're looking for solutions which will stop rapists from raping them. I don't understand what you achieve by mentioning that women commit violence and sexual violence - this is also unacceptable. (Do you also think the male victims are acting like 'prey?') 97% of women have been sexually harassed. Crimes of a sexual nature, towards women, are widespread. Your attitude is only perpetuating the culture which is making people think it's okay to commi… | /r/MensRights | 11/03/21 11:03 PM
UK: Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murderI don't think training women to become hand-to-hand combatants is a realistic strategy here (how is this being rolled out to all women - is it just rich women who will be provided with the supposed tools to avoid rape?). Thinking that a solution is only good if it's 100% is dumb. I did not say this - however, 100% would be the most effective strategy - why are we settling for 50% that's coming from action on the potential victims part, rather than considering strategies that tackle the crimina… | /r/MensRights | 11/03/21 10:46 PM
UK: Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murderIn actively not 'looking/acting like prey' surely women would need to 'live every moment like they're about to be raped' - since these behaviours need to have meaning/purpose behind them? If you want to avoid something, you're need to have a reason - in this case it's fear of getting raped (a very reasonable fear I'd say). Additionally, the majority of violent crimes committed against both men and women are being committed by men - so again, why does women not acting like 'prey' make more sense … | /r/MensRights | 11/03/21 09:58 PM
UK: Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murderBut is the current issue not that women are already being “taught this” yet they’re still getting raped? It clearly isn’t that simple | /r/MensRights | 11/03/21 09:40 PM
UK: Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murderI've never met a woman insist they know how to avoid rape? Women can take self defence classes, use car keys to protect themselves, only walk in lit streets etc, they can (and many have) still get raped. So how can you suggest the solution is for women to actively avoid getting raped (particularly when your studies are suggesting 50%!! What about the other half that are victims of this trauma?), when we could spend our time working on strategies which would stop rapists from committing these cri… | /r/MensRights | 11/03/21 08:50 PM
