1	Burned but how do I go on from here. Herpes is mainly a silent infection, only about 15% and 30% of infections leads to lesions from HSV-2 and HSV-1 respectively. That's how combined 70-80% of the american population catches at least one of these while by 30 years old while the perception being that it isn't so common. I mean there are more people with the virus than without so even the person that doesn't get cold sores is more likely to carry the virus than not. 1	Do you worry about herpes a lot? Having the HSV-1 virus genitally is so mild though. It's rare that it's contagious enough to pass to anyone else and the symptoms go away for the vast majority of cases after an outbreak or two. 1	Why insist on a low partner count? Tesing by the CDC has shown that between 14-49 1 in 5 women on average have HSV-2. It's just a few percent in teenage years and 1 in 3 in the 40-49 age bracket. IMO, genital HSV-1 infections are more or less a non-issue as it very rarely causes more than just the initial outbreak, similar to how you only get chicken pox once in you life.
