I neither love nor hate the current version of Trump in the context of modern politics. I’ve grown to find the polarization of modern politics deeply abhorrent. Unfortunately simply putting his name in this will polarize the comments to the ends of the spectrum rather than commenters actually responding to your post.

10+ years ago in my 40’s? Knowing what I know now, divorced in my mid 50’s? Yes, probably it would very much depend on the woman and some other factors.

Mine changed dramatically multiple times in our marriage. She always wanted me to be some vision of who she thought I was when we met. We have children and grandchildren and are now several months past divorce. Every once in a while things happen and I can tell she wonders why and what if. She is the only one that knows. She drove the bus. I wonder if your XW is experiencing this moment, wondering why, how and what if, even though she’s the one that drove the bus?

I’m not going to agree or disagree with anything said in the other comments. I am going to say read this book and work it’s steps. They can be life changing. I’d suggest following it up with personality isn’t permanent by Benjamin Hardy.

This is might be hard to read, but if you go by what she is going to tell you, you will never feel good enough for her or any other woman or your kids. You need to focus on healing yourself, so you can be a good father to your kids, particularly one with special needs and a good friend to yourself. My own experience is Once these start happening life starts working out in ways I never saw as possible. It didn’t get easier, I was now in a place to see it and take advantage of it.

Your focus needs to be on healing the spiritual and emotional injuries you have, self-inflicted and otherwise. That’s why this hurts and thats why you’re crying. Find a a men’s therapist, counselor or coach, someone who can walk and talk with you as you process and heal. Your journey is only yours. Don’t rush to fill your pain with a body count.

Mine was similar but a 29 year marriage that fell apart over a year and a half, when mine decided to let out every piece of resentment from her whole life and our relationship became a focal point for feelings aimed at her family. If I had to guess, your wife has resentment towards all kinds of things in her life and your relationship is just the proximal one. You can try therapy, but it doesn’t sound like she’s interested in fixing anything. Start healing yourself, consult an attorney about pos…

Before you judge yourself this way, go find a therapist with significant experience working with men. They aren’t terribly common, but they are out there. They’ll be able to help you get a real assessment and help you actually work with the results. Also realize that in all likelihood your child will come looking for you at some point and you will want to be ready and able to deal with the repercussions of that as well.

Having worked in that world for most of the last 20 years, you need to know that for every 1 male therapist there are 8 or 9 female therapists. The majority of therapists got into the profession due to DV, family history of abuse of some kind or history of substance abuse, either their own or a family member. Most therapists don’t spend a lot of time thinking about men’s issues. I would start by asking what they know about men’s issues. I would also want them to put in writing that they understa…

Get a lawyer, even if it’s only to consult on the legalities. if you’re going to do couples therapy make sure that you have as much say in choosing the therapist as she does. The therapy world as a field is not especially friendly to men. In the pat 25ish years it’s from roughly 50/50 to over 95% female. Do your research on the therapist. I’d suggest finding a therapist for your to work with through this transition no matter how it goes.

Married for 29 years, together for 30, divorced for 60ish days. Mine surprised me too. It may be a while before you get over the “hump” so to speak. I know I’m not. Get a therapist that works with men and a lawyer. If you don’t at the very least help manage this, it will all be dictated to you.

If you’re a reader or audio book listener I’d recommend no more Mr nice guy by Robert Glover, and personality isn’t permanent by Benjamin Hardy

Once we moved to her hometown she was More interested in being involved with her parents, siblings and friends from HS, than me or our kids. Everything in everyone’s life revolved around her mom.

That healthy communication is the real key. That if one person has unmet expectations the other one almost certainly does as well. The idea of “soulmate” is completely absurd and that relationships take a great deal of work that both parties have to be willing to put in every single day. That if either party is more invested in their parents and/or siblings than the relationship that is going to have to change or nothing can keep the relationship from becoming toxic. That both parties bring “bag…

Be willing to spend a little money and sit down with an estate attorney and financial planner. Have them help you set up you’re estate the way you want for anyone that you want included in it.

This 100% this, it is easier to point at the demons outside, no matter how real or imagined they are, than to look at even the smallest one inside myself, yourself, that would mean owning so much of what has gone before and comes after.
