So your husband had been a little involved before you both got more into the community? Or you discovered it together? Thanks for answering.

I'm not american, I didn't really get the major details of the case, I'll edit that now.

A sex act I just went with the most well known example with suicide involving something sexual. It was to try and highlight that it's not always the actual act, it's the aftermath. I was just working off the top of my head, not trying to say she had sex or anything else.

As a lady who went to a girls school - particularly in those early to middle teens it is absolutely not at all like that. There's a lot of bullying and harassment, jealousy and the assumption that you are a slut or damaged for having sex. Your friends might not care or might be doing the same thing, but for girls who aren't, you're now a target. There's always been and for a lot of people always will be that sense of shame around sex. Are they talking about some sort of gender policing that wome…

I think some men have launched cases under breach of contract - because while they consented to the actual sex act it happened under circumstances which they didn't agree to and were lied to about. Considering it involves taking personal property without consent, it could even fall under that segment of law (long shot - really just hashing out that theres different ways to see it). It is definitely true however that it's easy for birth control to legitimately fail and for men to lie about circum…

I run /r/ShitCosmoSays and posted the original. I started it because I didn't want this stuff to be ignored. It's one of the most popular magazines worldwide. And this is the kind of dangerous sexist bullshit it comes out with. Daily. So I get that it's easier to fall into disbelief, but we really shouldn't. We need to denounce this as the pile of shit it is.

It might not be classified as rape as not every case involved sex. One woman signed out (forged) her ex-husbands sperm from a sperm bank, twice. It should definitely be a crime however.

I don't see why it needs to be treated with civility. Because civility makes you likeable. The question was why are you hated.

I grew up in a family where I've seen my father cry over the nanny diaries. I'm really really used to male emotions. I just think that the way you're coming across is incredibly negative and to outsiders it's completely off-putting, regardless of gender. But yeah, definitely too large of a generalisation on my part

I do think it's rather telling how you (as a feminist) Not a feminist. are now accusing me (an MRA) of not having perspective Just because you hold political beliefs doesn't mean you're magically enlightened. You live in a gynocentric society that caters to your every whim and yet somehow you manage to believe that you are "oppressed." Neve said I was completely catered for, nor that I am oppressed. You're pulling this shit from nowhere. And speaking of haircuts, while male babies are being geni…

That's a fair point. However they're also much larger movements, and they have much more well publicised, relatable issues central to the movements, so even when there were the extremists, the media was brought back to a focal point. I don't think MRM has that, at all. Like not even close.

But I'd also hope that they'd start to support each other and help each other, not rip each other to shreds in the comments. There's no soft side to the community. It's only darkness and pain and hate. And it shouldn't be that. That's a husk of what it could be, which is actually supportive and doing positive things so that the same bullshit they've had to deal with doesn't happen to their sons.

Here I think it's important to say, politically on issues like that, where I live is very different. I literally live on the same street as a male only homeless shelter and an aboriginal shelter. I also think if you guys really started getting the cogs turning there might be less of an opposition than you're expecting. Hell you could do it through a partnership or a separate organisation to hide the media flames. Most feminists have somehow gotten the impression that when a man raises a question…

I pretty much meant you personally. You speak with enough grandeur, and such lack of perspective or realism it's bordering on delusion. Tone it down a little cupcake, my haircut is allergic to tinfoil.

All I'm saying is feminism has a historical, political, policy and number based advantage. Stop playing that game. Stop pitting yourselves against goliath. Have an image makeover, refocus the movement, get people actually doing positive things and then when your movement is larger come back to feminism.

If it's antifeminism but not anti-woman, then is there really a problem with that? I've just felt the MRM would see more success if they campaigned for issues, not against others.

Because you seem hostile and crazy. That's part of the reason why people don't want you on campus, it's not just the feminists, it's normal people too. You're not liked and you sound insane.

In my opinion, from a PR perspective, to make you guys more likeable, you really should back off from feminists. Just stop talking to them. Focus on your own projects, build yourself up, and then once you have a much more supportive, likeable, beneficial base, then start getting into the meatier discussions.

I really do understand that this is incredibly emotional stuff, but I'm saying you guys need to work on channelling and controlling that into more positive stuff, and you'll find people will become much more sympathetic and you can start to make more headway than if you were just having an argument or something.

I feel you're trying to misinterpret my points here. I wasn't trying to at all but you're right, I did. That's my fault. I was trying to use Texas as an example of why someone might say we still need feminism or why it's not the only voice. I misinterpreted you as saying feminism is in complete and utter control and that abolishing it is the way to go, as that's not an uncommon view here. It needs to be open to debate, to be challenged, and to acknowledge that there are different approaches to t…

The way I'm talking about this is stop shouting at feminists on the internet and do something like support men's suicide help lines. And if you already are doing that, publicise it. Feminism didn't start by saying all men are evil, trash em, it started with them campaigning for the vote. It was slow, and until it gained more strength, it was focused on issues. If it worked for them, why not apply it to your cause. I replied to another commenter about this, the quote at the top is his: Until femi…

How do you think you get mainstream awareness? It's not by alienating people and coming across as hate mongering. Until feminism relinquishes this stranglehold, and the silencing of debating any point that is outside the scope of feminist theory, can you really blame people who want alternate voices to be heard to be angry at the group who is suppressing any dissenting opinion? This right here is where you lose the majority of people. This is why no one listens. Because that's not a view shared …

I just went back and it seems like more of a joke now. The first time I went there like a year ago, it was mostly porn of women being attacked with some horrifying comments. It was so intense I had a cry about it. One commenter mentioned she was a woman who just liked her porn rough/brutal, the others seemed to be male. As for beating women and getting off on it, yes, some people are pretty awful to each other. For a lot of people theres a difference between seeing it in porn and what they'd act…

Nobody is saying they are even involved in conversations about feminism at all. Meaning they don't defend it. They just hold it as a little personal, private, internal value and do whatever else they do in their life. Not many people listen to gender based discussions. Not everyone invests such emotional interest. Not everyone cares that deeply.

[It happens to everyone] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Kitty_Genovese), sometimes even children. Sometimes there doesn't even need to be a threat. There are so many cases where people ignore domestic abuse, because when we step in we get hurt We don't risk ourselves.

It seems to be more that women give themselves permission to hate men and to attack men over this and many other experiences that are common to both men and women. There are also men who hate women. There are also white people who are racist, there are also black people who are racist. People give themselves permission to hate in response to their pain or anguish or stress. People get scared, they need someone to blame, to be angry at, to be responsible for what happened. And if you were raped o…

No it comes from people being dicks to you, and fitting a group. Exactly why you guys don't like feminists. Because some are dicks and they belong in a group. Hence nobody likes feminists. And it's not always perceived - some people do go through real trauma, and their coping mechanism isn't always good.

I've had friends who were raped, I've had rape threats, I've had a whole bunch of sexual abuse kind of shit, some of which is detailed here. There's a lot more to it. I don't nor have I ever hated men, but I know that friends seem to have similar experiences to me, and it's scary. And when you're scared it's easy to just strike out by hating groups.

Now, what's really good about this website I am posting from is the two sidebars, No, what's really good about these sources is they come from a peer reviewed internationally recognised journal. Additionally, it has really stricken me that these pedants would rather scream about "teaching men not to rape" than actually saving women from being raped. Look I'm really sorry you think I'm a cunt and a troll, it wasn't my intention. But to be quite frank it's going to take more than an MSN review of a press release of a study about attractiveness of online dating profiles for me to accept the "women dig bad boys" shit in such an overarching way. The study basically said hormones mean women are less able to understand what a dick some guys are, instead seeing them as attractive. Being attractive and dating a guy are very very different. I'm not saying that what you're saying isn't wrong, but abuse support networks don't directly correlate to drop out rates in the majority of cases. I know legally guys face major issues, but I was talking about social discrimination resulting in drop-out rates. Also just like to say, I'm australian, so my knowledge on things like the VAWA and AHCA is non-existant.

Not that, it just seems to be that people assume that when you say a feminist household it means a lot of "women have been oppressed, you need to steal it back" sort of stuff. I just wanted to explain that in my situation, egalitarian ideals and my mum's use of feminism weren't that separate. Which is something many people here don't really agree can happen.

Many "egalitarians" are so lacking in skeptical thoughts that they will believe there's a "middle ground" between men's rights and feminism. If there's no middle ground, what are we left with? Do you think it'll be a constant battle? Or do we let one side win?

As a woman, I feel like a lot of what mainstream feminism says is being more and more ignored. It takes more than just one group to push through those ideas, people also need to accept and internalise them. Advertising companies don't need to be feminist to market the idea of men as bumbling fools. There definitely is the role of feminism in there, and it is a part, but it's also a little more than that. EDIT: this is dicussing social discrimination, legal situations are different. That doesn't mean feelings shouldn't be discussed - they have a place. They should be separated from law, absolutely, but you're allowed to get mad. Totally understand what you're saying. And it's quite frankly bullshit that this is how some people would solve the problem. They shouldn't try to push people to a certain area because of gender/race etc. They should just make a little bit of support and advice available to people in those areas. There are women who complain about being treated differently in the work force, perhaps not treating them like a special snowflake for getting there would help, but also giving them support when they do…

Forcing gender splits are stupid, as is not choosing a candidate based on merit. However, there does need to be the same ability to reach the same opportunities (although my position on this relates more to non gender disadvantages - i.e. lets teach everyone to read. If men are dropping out, lets figure out why etc.).
