How does one differentiate fairness of chores in the household and being self reliant versus being labeled as Mr. Nanny? A few examples: Wife makes dinner and asks Husband to clean dishes whilst she tends to the children. Does doing that favour turn you into Mr Nanny or does it make you - your frame? - appear as self reliant? Husband makes lunch/dinner for myself and/or children? Should he leave dishes for wife to clean up or be disciplined to clean up things himself? I guess my thoughts are tha…

Not at the moment. I’m hoping to change that once I rediscover my passions again.

Makes total sense now. Create a Plan which has some benefit to her in the picture (allowance) which will get the buy in, along with ensuring s sound financial plan

Yep I think that’s the golden ticket. I’ll start working on it. My convincing and negotiation skills have always been bad so I need to brush up on those as well.

Out of curiositiy, how would that change if your wife was working in a part-time/casual capacity with and without children in the picture?

I agree that I'm a shit leader which I need to work on as I've always been a people pleaser, have a hard time saying no, and usually go out of my way to ensure that a girl is happy when crying - where it's my fault or not. I've now gone through all of the major financial area that need to be planned so will draft up a plan so I can take her along for the journey, to move towards the "US" vision. There may be a few compromises that need to be made which may be valid so I don't appear as over-cont…

I think I presently tick all of the boxes so I have a lot of work to do. Thanks for being honest and candid about it.

Ill start reading and I now realise that I’m nit picking. My plan is still to change the CC so it’s solely mine and deposit funds into her account as she only works part time . Does it matter if she isn’t doing the same with the money she makes and keeps it in her own account? I’ll implement it once I go through my other issues at the moment and start reading the prescribed books. Thanks for the brutal honesty and the support in this group.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Great support here. I’ll take the advice on board and also read the books on the side bar.

What is a good ratio to strive for after all expenses are accounted? 20-30% disposable income?

Bobby, FT, totally right there. I do tend to think/dwell over things too much where I get to a cross road and stop. I guess my personally has been a people pleaser, have a hard time saying No, hate being the cause of people’s unhappiness, and always try to make amends regardless - eg. have an argument with wife and I’ll be the first one to try and talk it over, or if I see/make her cry then I will apologise. Yes I know mega-beta.

It sounds like you are the main provider for the family. How do you balance all expenses while making sure the wife is still satisfied and the children get the most out of it - ie. extra curricular activities.

So how do I proceed from here?

So should my plan of attack be to show her expenses, convince her that we should have at least 30% buffet, and then make the required changes? I can see the rebuttal here being that I’m sacrificing the children’s happiness based on their activities due to me being tight with money. I must also mention that we have seperate accounts for our salary but the CC is a joint account under my name. My salary (most of) goes to all expenses and here to the grocery shopping. This has been going on for seve…

Thanks guys for your comments. Like I mentioned, I’m mega-beta at the moment and trying to turn my life around. There are other things happening at the moment which I’m hoping to ask for advice from you all down the road once I start doing some homework from the sidebar. I guess my question was is having a Joint CC a beta action - being one account with my wife as the authorised spender on it. I’ve been quite a beta with my threats to her so what’s the best way for me to turn this around so she …
