You'll realize later you're lucky that you found out so soon. She's probably going to explode when you file for divorce and she'll claim you attacked her and try to get you kicked out where you live. That's a favorite of women to get you out of the house. I honestly would have set up some cameras for the day she gets served. I would protect your assets as much as you can. If you bought a house together, you're going to have to split it or buy her out. You definitely want to plan your strategy to…

I don't know if they're always lying, but sometimes they're just delusional. One of my friends, his wife lives half the time in Arizona and he lives in Colorado.. she said he needs to learn to live by himself. Don't you agree?. I actually said no. I don't agree. You're not even roommates. A lot of them seem to live separate lives and it works for them evidently... Must be for tax for purposes,!

In general, they're not telling you the truth, they just don't want you to know the problems. A few of my friends have been married a long time and they said it wasn't easy and they had a lot of rough patches. So there really isn't much of a fairy tale marriage. They just don't want to air their dirty laundry

Also, she is not going to make this as easy as possible. She's going to make it as easy as possible for her. Wait till you get to the money part

Having been through it twice and having friends listen.. They basically want to talk and it's often very very very repetitive about the scenarios. Could have done this and could have done that. That's the biggest thing I've seen. Probably helping with good advice since they're not thinking clearly. You can be more objective cuz they'll instinct things that aren't necessarily very smart.

They all start off civil and end up in all out or especially when you hit the money part
/r/Divorce_Men22/07/26 05:03 AM

I don't regret having the kids, definitely regretted getting married. Did it twice and I would never do it again except for the kid part. You can certainly adopt a kid that would be a great thing to do. I raised four kids. Two of them were mine. Two of them were hers after the divorce. Never talked to those kids again., and I really don't want to.

If you're looking to get rid of all that freedom and most of you resources, you should definitely get married. You haven't said what the benefits would be? There really aren't any, although they will tell you there are... For them.

I had something similar happen. You definitely want a restraining order and you don't want to leave the house. She wanted you out of the house and was willing to hurt you to do that, but yet you seem to want to protect her.. Chivalry is dead in divorce, and you will regret not having her arrested and leaving the house

I live in Colorado and have a similar issue. It's going to be a big problem for you and you're likely going to lose a lot of your stuff unless it's specifically written into an agreement. The fact she took everything before that doesn't bode well for her and you would likely have access to look at all the assets. You need to get her to state that she took everything and put it in storage and you need to go see it and to work out and an agreement. I doubt you will ever see the cash. You won't hav…

I've been divorced twice and every time they say it's not about the money.... Until it is. All of my friend who's been divorced. That's going great with no lawyers until the money part comes up. Then their eyes glaze over and it's all about the money. Don't give in, get the lawyers on it to get the most amount of money because that's exactly what she's going to do. She's going to find out that she's going to owe you money and no woman ever thinks she should ever pay a man. The only way you get m…

Yes, you're going to have to pay child support in some places. Make you pay until they're 19. Even I went through that. You should file for divorce in the United States. Otherwise you're going to have to be going to Canada and deal with that.. He probably will have to pay alimony and typically for half the time You've been married. You haven't stated if you want to be part of the child's life? She can't simply run to another country with a kid if you were. You'll need to figure that part out if …

You get the difference in her 401K from the value when you got married. So if it was worth $100,000 when you got married and now it's worth 200. You get half of that increase. She doesn't get to keep her 401K. She gets to keep the amount before you got married and that's it. Start pulling cash out and hiding it to it slowly but do it consistently and constantly. I've been divorced twice. I speak from experience. It really doesn't matter if she records you. It's really most divorces are no fault.…

You can lock your credit card from your phone app. If you filed for divorce then she did it. The judge will have a dim view of her doing that and probably would assign her that debt Otherwise she can charge as much as he wants and there's nothing you can do about it. She can get her own credit card and you're still stuck with a debt. Ask me how I know
/r/Divorce_Men14/03/26 01:59 AM

I would have her do it since she's the one getting some benefits out of it as well. She doesn't get to pick and choose the debt either. She gets half of it and you get the other half.

I would go ahead and negotiate the debt without trying to negotiate with a lender. Once that's a final order, I would go ahead and negotiate your portion to be a lower payment. So let's say you both have $10,000 each in car loans. That would be a total of $20,000. You would split that and both of you widow 10,000 I would go back to that lender and say you're not getting $10,000. How would I give you seven or something. Once it's a final divorce order, she can't really come back and do anything i…

There's no your debt and her debt and your on the loan so you're stuck with half of that from a divorce perspective. On the other side, she's responsible for the debt on your car loan as well, even if she's not on that loan. If you split the debts equally, you might want to just go back and try to negotiate a lower settlement after to lower that debt. Other than that, you're stuck with it. Once you got married, it's both of your death and they usually just split it evenly

There's something called innocent spouse because I believe the tax returns are not credible. I don't want to be liable for it.
/r/Divorce_Men20/02/26 02:36 PM

It gets even better. My ex had filed for 3 years and forged my name and made up fake returns based on a business she was losing money at. She claimed all the returns which totaled $100,000 over the 3 years. The judge said it's a criminal matter and he couldn't do anything and I should report her which I did. This was 2 years ago. I reported it to the police and they've done absolutely nothing.

Part of my final decree was she would get them on odd years and I would get them uneven but I went ahead and filed anyway and claimed it. Nothing came of it.. cost more to go back to court than the tax refund for half of it

I've never seen anybody use a forensic accountant. They don't even look that deep into stuff at all. Whatever you present to them is whatever they go with. There's no investigations of any kind and even if you lie, you don't really do anything anyway.

I have the same thing. Her lawyer just makes things up and she lies. To be honest the court really doesn't care if you lie or not. He may as well do it because there's no repercussion if you lie even if you get caught doing it. And don't be afraid to fire your lawyer. I've gone through four of them. The minute they screw up. It's worse than animosity. It's pure hatred. I was kicked out of my house 3 years ago and it's the house I bought and she moved in with her bratty kids. So she's living there and now I have to buy my house back. That's what takes it so long. Clearly living in a nice house and not paying bills versus getting a job clearly doesn't work anymore. She's also a convicted felon and an alcoholic and claiming disability so I pay more alimony.

The quick answer is yes. I went through four of them the minute they don't fight or don't know what they're doing. I for them all the time and they are pretty lazy. They just want you to accept whatever deal the whole game is to keep the clock running until you don't have any money They don't care if you lose money that as long as they get paid they've lost me hundreds of thousands of dollars so far. Mine did something similar but worse. She actually got convicted from stealing money from her parents. There had to be payback and take out an equity loan on the house which was mine premarital to the tune of $200,000. And the court didn't recognize that as being alone. Even though a verbal contract is the same weight as a written contract. Divorce judges don't know the law very well to be quite honest even if she agreed to pay it back just like mine said. I'm still going after 2 and 1/2 years trying to get the house and assets been divorced for a year this month. The things I would do differently are take more money and cash and hide it. Keep assets in your name because it actually does matter when you're separating cars and things like that. Make sure you know her debt. Well, if you haven't been served then there is no divorce proceedings until that happens. Financially you're better off and she's going to have to pay you some kind of alimony or something and probably child support for sure. Sounds like you want the kids more than the money but you'll regret not getting the money. It was only mildly painful if at all. Felt fine the next day. If you don't want kids, you don't want kids... Having kids won't make you want them more. It'll just be another arguing point later on. Mine decided to get off birth control a couple of weeks. She told me by that time she was already pregnant... And then she did it again. Needless to say I'm divorced

Yeah, you're under no obligation to provide anything anymore once the final divorce is settled. Anything you do beyond that it's really your problem if you decide to start giving her money. If there were kids involved, I'd probably give them the money directly depending how old they are or save it up and give it to him one day like for college things like that. Don't give her any money to give to the kids no matter what she says. The kids will never see it. Everybody I know has had an amicable d…

Everything you said is true having gone through two of these. She will think everything is hers from my experience. And they generally side with the women almost all the time. When you have kids involved that really complicates things cuz you're going to pay child support for a very long time. They care about the kids and child support. Not so much about the parents. It looks like you are going to be 50/50 because there's not a lot of premarital assets that you would have. As far as the house go…

Lots of good advice here but you need to start taking some cash and socking things away once you file for a divorce. You can't do any of that stuff. You have to keep everything the same. So make your changes now. Once you're ready you file for divorce. It'll be a battle after that and you won't be friends anymore, especially when it comes to money and stuff..
/r/Divorce_Men22/05/24 01:36 AM

I agree with you. The whole contempt thing's pretty laughable most of the time the only time they can enforce it if if it's financial. If you pay money they can garnish your pay and go after accounts. Other than that not much... My lawyers continue to annoy me about contempt orders. One aspect is getting the other side to pay the legal bill if they do file contempt and you have to go to court. I agree with you about the judge. They tell me you're going to piss off the judge. Mine tried that same stunt and said let's merge our accounts. She had 12 judgments of debt against her. I said no fucking way. Just because you merged your accounts doesn't mean you cant separate them again I would suggest doing that. The judge in my case went with who owned the accounts and assigned the debt accordingly. So having it in your name or her name doesn't seem to matter

Having just gone through this, it's very painful... And the worst thing people tell you is you should have done something about it as if you really could. Anybody can create debt and you're liable for it. End of story. The only thing in your favor can be that she was being frivolous with the money and the judge can't order her to pay the debt. If you're frugal with the money and she isn't that can help but they doesn't always go that way. I would suggest you show you tried to get her to stop spe…

One thing I've learned after two divorces is they only know what you tell them. Lawyers don't want to subpoena things. They're generally pretty lazy about that and will take everything at face value. You could make Photoshop tax returns make it up totally from scratch. They have really no way to confirm it's real or not.. You could literally have another bank account in his as you don't tell them it exists. They can't find it. Everybody thinks there's some magic thing they can do and find all yo…

My biggest regrets and divorce are waiting too long
/r/Divorce_Men23/12/23 03:05 PM

Yes you can clearly do that and if you can agree to split stuff, that's the best way to go. Otherwise the courts will decide. That's currently what's happening to me. It was highly contentious divorce. We won't be able to agree on anything. Keep in mind anything before the marriage is yours considered premarital and that doesn't get split up.

I ran into a similar situation. You can drop an agreement if she is owed 75,000 she would just get it get it up front and you would agree to it. So say each one of you is getting 75,000 she wouldn't get it because she already received it in advance. It's not really a big deal because in the end everything gets settled and evened out. Don't have 75,000 to split and that's a problem. It's got to come from somewhere

This is absolutely true. I'm going through my second one. She has tons of debt and I make the money and save like an idiot. Lots of little withdraws. Don't count. They will notice one big one though

Get the best attorney you can find and then call the other good ones once you call them. They can't represent her because they are conflicted.

Cash is good... Get that debt going. They love going after retirement cuz they usually don't have the their own

I kept mine and put it in the safe. It was my father's who passed away a long time ago. So keeping it for that. The ex got to keep the ring which is about 65,000.

If it's in a no-fault state, none of that really matters unless he's some kind of criminal in a threat to the children. Other than that, the court could really care less Your lawyers going to think you're a stalker
/r/Divorce_Men07/06/23 07:14 PM

Nay, I don't know what the point of that would be other than to increase your frustration and stress. And do you really care?
/r/Divorce_Men07/06/23 07:13 PM

Amen to that. There seems to be common sense criminal law and then there's divorce law which contains neither of the two. It's a very biased system

I'm in the middle of switching attorneys. She just found out there was a hearing this Friday that nobody seemed to remember since it's been a year when they scheduled a hearing They're feeling is wait for the final hearing and just let it end but by that time it will have been a year and a half and I haven't done in my house to get my stuff and over a year. Since I'm in the middle of this, I'll let you know what I find out but pretty frustrating because they want you to give a list of assets and…

To be quite honest, get out now. The sooner you do it, the less you pay. If you're only premier of the year, you only pay about 6 months alimony. Things don't get better

I'm on my second divorce. The first wife tried it but my kids witnessed it and she went to jail. Second wife trying the same crap made up all kinds of stuff. It's pretty hard to defend yourself to prove something you didn't do unless you weren't physically there when she gives dates and things like that. But it's a losing game

I'm going to go with a flow and say no.. really don't want a relationship and why don't you just rent it to somebody you don't know in case you have to evict them. I do like the thought of an ex having to pay but I still couldn't do it

Best to talk to a lawyer and get a game plan going in case you need to do some maneuvering before you file. Mine did the same at 12 judgements against her and knows 88k which means I owe 88k.

The fact she mentioned it to you mean she's already scheming and already doing things like pulling money out. You might want to hit the ATM a little more than normal. I would file after you got your house in order because after that it's a problem. Then she'll accuse you of assault or something like that to get you kicked out of the house

I have a watch that looks like a Fitbit that records, video and audio. You just push one of the buttons to record. I just point your wrist in the adrenal direction. It doesn't send it to the cloud it's stored on an SD card on the watch. You can get it on Amazon for about 60 bucks. Any of the other wireless cams you can use as well, but it's good to have a couple especially when you're talking to her and she thinks you're not recording it. They know there's a camera in the room. They're not going…

That's the right idea. She's obviously been planning this for a while and you've seen it. There's nothing stopping you from taking that folder and what can she do even if you did yell at you?

This is 100% true. I'm on my second divorce and both of them tried the stunt of assault to get you out of the house. They will play all kinds of games and having keychain recorder could be very helpful

And they all do that

You are absolutely correct. I've seen the most amicable divorces and they all end up fighting about the money. Never fails

On my second divorce and they always say I don't want any money or anything... And then that changes dramatically and they want every penny don't be fooled.

Usually the first step is court ordered mediation and bike mediation. Better because you can get more creative in what you want to do. If you don't come to an agreement. You're dealing with lawyers and lawyers and then you can finally go to trial and that will never favor you. Like you said, all debt and all income gets divvied up. The fact she haven't worked is actually a very bad thing for you because that means you're going to be paying maintenance and they go by a rule of thumb of half the t…

That's so true! I'm on my second divorce and this one is much worse than the other. Mine decided to become a felon and alcoholic addicted to oxyand feel she doesn't need to work and I should pay for her to watch TV and get drunk all day. The court actually imputed her pay and the next step would be a vocational review. She keeps claiming she has health issues but she just likes going to the doctor. She was denied disability from social security twice.

That's probably good and you're probably right. She'll come up with all these excuses and making throughout to be some kind of killer. I'm going out through my second divorce. They both pulled the same stunt. The first one actually went to jail because my kids saw her attack me.

One popular thing they like to do is claim you assaulted them to get you kicked out of the house.... It's a good idea to record things.

What he's saying is don't pay it. It will be split 50/50 as part of the divorce. Just like bank accounts will be split. It may not be a 50/50 split but it will be split according to whatever number they come up with so I would not pay it that way she pays for her share.
