Honestly, take time for yourself for a year. Cut out alcohol, gambling, vices like that in which you can get lost in. Establish healthy boundaries with your ex, family, etc. Create routines and involvement with your kids and just talk to them if they are of a decent age. Don't disparage your ex in front of them. Courts are going to typically keep the kids in some sort of 50/50 arrangement as having both parents is what is best for the kids. You can listen to all the horror stories of people out there not having custody, weekend dads/moms, etc. They mostly seem to paint the picture as their husband/wife screwed them out of custody. Be careful. Make sure the decree is explicit in the fact that she has to refinance the house into her name if she is keeping the asset and that you get half of the current equity value. If its not explicit in the decree, she can opt to not refi the house and keep your name on it. Typically if this happens and you can't come to an agreement, your divorce would be vacated and you'd have to go through all of it a second time around which costs more time and money.
