The state should not define, regulate or characterize relationships among consenting adults. This is my view on marriage. Also, claiming a spouse as a dependent is archaic. Women work now. Claiming a partner as a dependent is redundant with unemployment.

The only legitimate reason I can see to marry is that deciding not to can severely limit which women will consider a relationship with you.

My thoughts exactly. Why is the gov't even involved in marriage? Why can you still claim an unemployed spouse as a dependent? It is now the norm for both spouses to be employed, so isn't claiming a dependent spouse kinda redundant with unemployment? Put marriage back in the hands of the churches and social groups that actually care about it.

Breeding is only one side of the issue. It is worse because killing a young, healthy man is attacking the enemy's war machine, where the only practical effect of killing women at the time was to lower the enemy's political drive to fight, i.e. terrorism. It is different today. With women in the workforce and armed forces they are part of the war machine as well, and as fair a target as the men.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
