i think what matters is that a man takes good care of his health, dresses in a way that flatters his body, and carries himself with dignity and purpose. one doesn't need to have attractive features per se to be averagely attractive. i'm (dude here) currently crushing on a babe who looks a bit like a pig. by that i mean that her nose is kind of wide and turns up, her face is round-ish, her eyes are wideset, she's short, and kind of skinny-fat. all of these might be considered unattractive, or eve…

When I was a teenager, my parents bought a pair of combat boots for me. They were really great parents, accepting, kind, supportive. I was, and still am in a lot of ways, progressive politically. My English teacher one day asked me, in a condescending way, how much my boots cost, and whether I bought them or my parents bought them for me. At the time, I felt ashamed to admit their cost and that my parents bought them for me. Looking back, though, I don't really think this is anything to feel ash…

I'm not interested in becoming the ideal life partner, nor am I interested in attaining all the attributes women say they want, nor am I searching for an ideal woman. All of that sounds pretty masochistic and narcissistic to me. I'm interested in living in a way that is fulfilling. I've found that doing so brings relationships with women into my life that are meaningful and, at times, also challenging, but always genuine. I think what I was trying to convey in my earlier comments here is that it…

By subjectivity, I was referring to the individual differences within the general population of women.

I'm a heterosexual man. I'm friends with a fat guy who has hookups with attractive women all the time. He takes good care of himself, so I should say he's not so much fat as he is an endomorph.

Interesting question, I'll happily tell you, but first, I'm really curious about where the question is coming from?

Attractive to whom? Subjectivity of oneself and the other seem to be missing in what I understand as TRP, though correct me if I'm wrong here; there's a lot about RP I'm not familiar with.

I disagree with this. In my experience, the only true way to increase your attractiveness as a man is to become mature, to grow up. By this, I mean you have to dedicate yourself to some kind of livelihood that you're passionate about; cultivate qualities such as courage, self-determinism, wisdom, and mindfulness; develop the humility and life experience needed to teach others (good father archetype), and cultivate the humility and vulnerability needed to learn from others, including women. If co…

I don't know if a blankpill ideology is good or bad, but I don't imagine either is very pragmatic, which is ironic because I think people subscribe to one or the other with the hope that they'll attain some kind of outcome as a result.

I think probably, in that the latter is an encounter with the sadistic aspect of human psychology that most of us have repressed; all people are capable of committing heinous acts of violence, but most of us don't because we've also developed a capacity for empathy and moral conscience, both of which outweigh any pleasure we might derive from acts of sadism. So, a violent encounter with a psychopath is doubly traumatic in two important ways: 1. The survivor's personhood is transgressed upon, and…

I'm not sure how this right could be restricted, outside of locking someone up. But that begs the question: for what? You can't imprison someone for a crime they haven't committed, even if they are determined to be at high risk for committing said crime. Hopefully the psychologists made recommendations that the subject will follow. EDIT: Also, there is a difference between ignorance of consent due to cognitive impairment and disregard for consent due to sociopathy.

Dude here, so there's that, but yes, women are hyper sexualized, objectified, and sexually harassed on a regular basis beginning in early adolescence for most, though it begins in subtle ways even earlier. I've always enjoyed spending time with women, and I work in a profession that is primarily comprised of women, so I see and hear about a lot of things. A lot of seemingly normal men do antisocial and transgressive things to women in private. In terms of these situations being avoidable, I agre…

Unfortunately the gif has been removed, or I just can't find it. But, this is an interesting question, and one that has been posed for a few decades now, I think since the late 90s? I personally don't think so. My sense of narcissism is that it is an important part of a healthy personality, though it becomes pathological when compensatory. The problem with generalizing this to the population at large is that the pathological kind of narcissism is usually a relic of early childhood, and has more …

Can we define traditional gender roles? Where I am these days with this conundrum is that women do try to retain some, though they work to abolish others. But, a definition would help me better respond.

Ha! I'd say it's true. I'm like this. My good impulse control and generally reflective demeanor alienated me from my peers for much of my adolescence and 20s. Interestingly, in an effort to diminish those qualities, I started drinking heavily in my late 20s. It didn't work, but I figured out other ways to be happy and develop friendships and relationships that weren't as self-destructive. Therapy helped.

I do hobbies like those you've listed because I'm genuinely interested, and not necessarily to meet women. In general, I put in little to no effort. Sometimes, I flirt with women in different settings, and it always goes well, sometimes even leading to a kind of long-term flirty rapport. But, I've never gotten "laid" for all of my lack of effort. My lack of effort has brought me a couple of long-term relationships and plenty of suitors who I've rejected, FWIW. I suppose if a man's goal is to hav…

I would hate to have a sexually intimate relationship with a woman who I didn't also feel a sense of emotional intimacy. In fact, I don't think I'd be capable of doing so - I've only rejected women who I don't feel open with emotionally. In my experience, women tend to be attracted to this, and also feel similarly in their sexually intimate relationships. Though, n=1 here; you're just getting my rather idiosyncratic perspective. Also in my experience, however, emotionally intimate relationships …

This is a great point! I've been thinking about feminism for years, and never considered it as a possible tool for oppression due to internal, maybe we could call them psychological, aspects of the theory. I will say that I've found older men to be only occasionally competitive with me (I'm a man), but for the most part they've been supportive of my growth and, in a weird way, attractiveness by challenging me to build my confidence and charisma. This kind of relationship has continued into my 30…

When I was growing up, I loved the band Crass. I don't really like their music anymore, but I do think their most basic message is still incredibly valuable, maybe even more now than when they were a band in the 70s and 80s. I wrote that to pay homage to my deceptively simple response to your post, which is... You can do whatever you want. You can think your thoughts. You can be exactly who you want to be. You'll encounter resistance, of course, but so what? If you want to believe those things t…

Nope! I would hate being provided for by my partner. Sounds infantilizing. I used to prefer equity in relationships, but these days I'd prefer to provide material support for my partner, though I haven't got the means to do so just yet. Anyway, I have the sense I'm a timetraveller, but the process of time travel induces a kind of amnesia because I only occasionally realize this about myself, though I'm getting better at remembering this fact as I see myself going further back in time while every…

I'm hot. Or, I used to be. I don't know if I am anymore. It stressed me out, though. Multiple exes wouldn't let me break up with them. So, I just started rolling in the red flags, hoping they'd break up with me. They didn't, and instead just totally overlooked all the crappy things I said and did (nothing really bad, as I'm real nice, but stuff I certainly wouldn't put up with, nor would I let a friend deal with in his or her relationship). Anyway, I think it was the whole love/lust dichotomy. A…

I do agree that women can't be sexist, but not by the logic espoused in this post. I've also got a response to the part about women being the "weaker, less dominant gender..." Here's my argument on why I think women can't be sexist. I'd love to consider rebuttals and such, of course: Sexism can refer to many things, but I think it's important to locate it in a particular time and place for discursive reasons. In the United States (and, I suppose we could include Canada and much of Western Europe…

For #1: I'm seeing two ideas emerge here. The first is that women and men are equally capable of making decisions. The second is a "therefore", namely that, therefore, men and women are equally responsible for the results of the decisions they make. This seems to be further generalized to the idea that people are responsible for the results of the decisions that the make. Have I characterized this point accurately? If so, then I think this can actually get really complex. I mean, on a very basic…

Regarding point #1: I think I understand the basic assertion, but on what is it based? Is it grounded in any theory, scientific findings, or school of philosophy? If so, can you direct me there? For #2: How so? I'm not disagreeing per se, just would like to know more about why you think this belief is gross and, following that, what are the implications of a belief being "gross"? Can a belief be both gross and true?

Hm, I actually disagree with this premise that "women have equal agency as a man", but I'm also not very familiar with it. If possible, would you please direct me to some resources that would help me understand it a little better? Not sure if this helps, but I consider myself a benevolent sexist. I believe there are actually significant differences between men and women and that, in general, though certainly not always, women are the fairer sex. Also, just to be clear, I do completely disagree w…

My thought is that suicide prevention should be differently focused for men and women, rather than more focused on men than women, or vice versa. FWIW, I'm pro-feminism (and social justice in general), but those theories have really lost their nuance in the past few years, which was what drew me to them in the first place. I'm more of a benevolent sexist these days. Not saying that's objectively the correct position to hold, but I thought I'd mention it because it is a position that acknowledges…

Ah, well it would be interesting to study this formally - the hypothesis that feminists deter women from majoring in profitable subjects and putting more hours in at work. But, honestly, I'm partial to the biological position, which is that most (certainly not all!) women are naturally suited to work and other pursuits that are different than those to which men are suited.
/r/MensRights25/08/19 08:29 PM
1

That is one possibility. What do you base this theory on? And, doesn't that constitute a form of oppression?
/r/MensRights25/08/19 07:50 PM

Interesting. I've heard this argument before, but something new jumped out at me. Any data or speculation on why women choose less profitable majors than men?
