Completely my bad, but I reached out to ex because the dog we had had together was at his end of life and I wanted to give him an opportunity for goodbyes. It turned into I was killing his dog and he slept with ‘Kathy’. Ok…

Lol, same. I can only wear gold jewelry and my ex got me silver to “mix it up” (we had been dating 4 years).

Playing games is an amazing vetting strategy. It definitely brings out positive and negative traits. I always try to get a game in by 2nd or 3rd date.

Yes… just the last two men I’ve dated- we were messing around and he stopped to ask me how far I wanted to go and respected my boundaries. The other practically clutched his pearls when I explained that I wasn’t ready for a home dates because they usually imply sleeping together.

My therapist would ask, ‘do you really feel heard when you try to talk him? Do you think that was an appropriate response? Would you have responded that way?” I think she tried to lead me to seeing how his behavior was toxic. When I decided to leave she practically jumped out of her chair and said, “ok, let’s make a plan.”

This can be a way to test you for BDSM. Those sorts of statements are pretty common when they’re trying to gauge where you are with it.

I am the one in my friend group that is “overly cautious” but I’m also always right! A few months ago a friend was having issues with a male friend. I told her to change her locks. He’s acting off and has a spare key to her house. She didn’t. Guess who was caught standing naked in her living room having a manic episode? Always change your locks. Another time, a friend had a male coworker who followed her on Instagram. He was going through a break up and his ex started following my friend on Inst…

There is this song by Lake Street Dive, about playing through mistakes. I’m not sure why, but the message hit home and I realized life is about playing through your mistakes. To be fair, they were talking about missing notes when playing instruments, but isn’t that like life? You played a few cords (or verses) wrong. You don’t put down the instrument, you keep playing. It’s really the only thing we can do. There are definitely things I think, “sh*t! Not doing that again.” But they’re over and to…

I’m not exactly sure, but I remember telling my kindergarten teacher that it didn’t matter if anyone was proud of me because I didn’t need them to be. I clarified that my mom could be proud but I didn’t care if my dad was. Then when I was 8, my mom asked me how I would feel if we didn’t live with my dad any more, I told her “Oh finally!” I just always remember thinking, ‘this isn’t how dads are supposed to treat moms and kids.’ I’m not sure where that idea came from but it some how made it into …

Aside from buying myself things (usually a pricy plant) I enjoy spending time alone and pampering the things I care about. I’ll board my high energy dog (he loves daycare and usually doesn’t want to come home) and have a relaxing night at home with my snuggly dog. I’ll make a nice cocktail or have fancy wine, do some cleaning and pamper my plants, change my bedsheets, go to bed early, sleep in, take snuggly dog to the dog coffee shop and get a drink and treats. Then pick up the other dog from hi…

I had an ex reach out today apologizing for his behavior when we were dating. He didn’t make excuses, it was just an apology. Honestly, I barely remember him and we dated a year, 12 years ago. I was telling my friend and she remembered more about the relationship then I did. Idk. I recently was listening to a song from Lake Street Dive about learning to play through our mistakes. It was a nice reminder to learn and not dwell. Life is about playing through the mistakes.

I think about the good relationships I’ve seen and the good men I’ve known. While they seem to be few and far between, I try to remember that they’re not. They’re just not in our faces. They don’t follow us, they leave us alone when asked, don’t disturb you at the gym, mind their own business in public, can read and take your ques, etc. you have to remember that the bad experiences tend to be projected loudly while you hear less of the good ones.

People always get bent out of shape over a prenup. What they don’t realize is that you already have one, it’s your state’s laws. You might as well Wright down how you want things to go should you break up, while you still like each other.

A HV example: a guy I was dating and I took our dogs out to the snow. I have poodles and he has a golden retriever. We drove my car and his dog ended up getting hair everywhere. Honestly I didn’t care, the car is 90% for the dogs anyway, but he took my car and had it cleaned the next day. I cried after he left because every other man I had known before him had always broken my things and I just couldn’t believe that someone would do for me what I would have done for them.

I tend to think of my ‘rotation’ as various types of relationships with men. I have some male friends, male coworkers who I do social things with, a pen pal, and guys I see. I find that the different types of male relationships actually gives me a lot of perspective. I can say, this is what I enjoy out of my male friendships or it’s great having a coworker of this intellectual level, and then expect that out of my relationship also. Even with that, it’s still easy to get hung up on people. I sep…

When I first began OLD I did accept walking, park and coffee dates. My thoughts were, outside of OLD this person would probably have been in my extended social circle. We would have had a few in person interactions and I would have been able to decide if I wanted to go on a date with that person. With OLD, it’s almost like a blind date every time. Even talking on the phone before, you don’t know what your showing up to. So my intention with the walking date was to try and capture those pre date …

It’s a pretty easy tactic. In one of the later interviews you can say, “I’d love to see the space I’d be working in” or “I’d love to chat with my potential co workers” Also, it’s still hard working for a bad manager. The saying, ‘people do t leave jobs, they leave managers’ is more then true.

Exactly this. My previous employer HATED me. I was doing everything I could but it just wasn’t a good fit. I ran into my old manager and they were ‘shocked’ I was in the position I am currently. Like, of course I am, because I’m good at what I do and you cannot expect anyone to do well in a toxic environment.

Rage quitting is letting your anger consume you. Let it fuel you. You are not working there for the manager, you are there for the pay, benefits, whatever. Keep doing your job well and look for something else too. There are good jobs out there. When you’re looking be picky. Scrutinize their culture and use your interviews to interview them. ask to speak with the people You would be working with. When asked how you would handle x situation, answer then ask how they would like to see that situatio…

I met one on tinder and two on Reddit. I think with online dating, and just dating in general, you’re going to lose until you win, and winning is defined as meeting three good guys out of I-could-not-tell-you-how-many dates... That’s my best half glass full analogy.

I’ve dated a few HVM and have met them using OLD. Admittedly, it’s been a few years since meeting them and it hasn’t worked out romantically with any of them, but we’ve remained genuine friends. One tried to set me up with one of his friends (another HV) more recently, and while a nice guy, I wasn’t into him. OLD really was/is like wading through a swamp. Depends on your goals. Are you looking for just a higher interest rate on your savings? What sort of liquidity do you expect? Are your goals long term or short term? Usually, general advise is to open a Roth IRA and put your money into low cost index funds. This is a sort of set-it-and-forget-it long term approach. However, if your goals are more short term there might be a better direction.

I had this done in 2015 and it was really easy. I had very little pain after and nothing advil couldn’t help. I wasn’t up for walking miles afterwards but I could take my dog to the park and was at work the next day. The podcast this week might be a good listen also there are some good articles in the wikki about it. Essentially though, by not going 50/50 we are vetting characteristics we want to see. Is this person happy to provide? This is important. There will be times you might need them for this. Having kids, if you’re sick... a guy who insists on 50/50 is keeping score.

I always try to push for a board game with a guy early on. I want to see his reaction to both losing and winning. I have decent game luck and usually win but how he wins is a big tell too. This also triggers their video game addiction, if they have one. More than once ive had guys say “fck you” when I’ve won, or mansplaned to me once they’ve won. She has amazing, wise advice and has a way of saying things so that people listen. M is single and ‘cannot be bothered’ with men or dating. H- I admire H’s career and status in life. She has worked her a** off and her achievements in her field and in her life are incredible. I don’t think I’ve seen an…

I really admire and look up to my manager at work. She is an incredible manager who fosters an amazing team bond in our department. She fights for us and always has our backs. She always professional and calm at work. I’ve only see her express the slightest amount of frustration twice (I was ready to walk out in these particular scenarios) but she reeled it in pretty quick and was back to her calm and cool demeanor. Even this past year, covid has really affected our positions at work and she’s r…

A friend of mine has a male friend (non sexual) who has been treating her terrible. She called him out and told him she needed space. He replied with this gem (I’m paraphrasing), “I know I’ve been treating you bad but I’ve come to realize I have multiple personalities and the person who was mistreating you was not the person you have been friends with. I hope you can be supportive of my mental illness and accept that my different parts make up a whole. I’d like to be referred to as WE going forw…

I am currently toying with the idea of adopting. I’m single, 35, and 90% convinced that these thoughts are coming from hormones related to my age. the idea of having a guy to raise a child with actually hadn’t crossed my mind until a friend asked. After thinking about it, at worst, bringing a child into my home would only increase my standards and scrutiny towards men.

They really tell on themselves publicly and loudly. He thinks he’s blasting you but really he’s shining his own s*it badge, screaming “this is how I treat women” from the highest rooftop.

This is amazing. Anyone know if there are resources like this in the US? The clinic I found is free but it’s ‘no news is good news’ type results.

She nailed them. It should also be pointed out that they can play this game for years. Act HV for many years before they flip. And when they start making demands they will throw everything they have in your face. Your vulnerabilities, the nice acts they did for you, literally anything.

Definitely. I want to know how he travels in the car too. I love road trips but have seen a lot of guys melt down during a long car ride.

I’m really picky about how he treats and reacts to my dogs. Does he get them wound up in the house or encourage the dogs to break the rules? You gotta go. Just to add a few more: Must actually like being outdoors Knows how to cook healthy foods Be fun to travel with

Sort of related... has anyone read the mouse utopian study? You can draw a lot of parallels to our society now, declining birth rates and over population.

How do you respond to the question “why are you still single?” It’s obviously a loaded question really asking, “so what’s wrong with you?”

I had the same experience with therapy. I would share something and the therapist would say “that sounds hard, you were brave, thank you for sharing” at least for me, none of that is helpful, it’s validating but doesn’t fix the problem and was only enforcing the fear and anxiety. Instead, my current therapist will let me express something and then help me invalidate it. I’ll have a reaction to something and he will remind me that I don’t have to listen to that voice, that person isn’t around any…

And it takes years to unwind the psychological damage. You find yourself developing habits that aren’t your own, but that are his. Then getting back to yourself after dumping the scrote is basically reliving the trauma and trying to convince yourself you are not worthless because you like sushi over Chinese.
