I’m just a lurker here, but you should read The Good News About Marriage by Shaunti Feldhahn, she explains how the 50% divorce statistic is a lie.

Hi there! As I have said before, this has been a learning experience for me, and many others have led me to information that I had not been exposed to before.

Women viewing violent porn, to a certain extent, can be an indication of past trauma. That vice article deals in extremes, and also point out another good point- that there IS a lot of porn that depicts violence towards women.

I’m not saying that violence towards men and women has been normalized in the same way or same capacity, just that the prevalence of one does not downplay the importance of the other.

Alzael, thank you for pointing this out! I appreciate you pointing me in the direction of these sources that seek to find the truth about the prevalence of rape. As far as I have known, the CDC has been a fairly credible source of information, so I apologize for supplying information from them that may not be as accurate as I thought. However, no matter if the true number is 1 in 2 or 1 in 10, that doesn’t negate the fact that it happens on a large scale, and that it’s wrong (just like it is whe…

I’m sorry, I should clarify as that isn’t very clear haha. The 1 in 5 apply to reported rapes. The 54% is just an estimation of how many rapes altogether go unreported. Does that clear it up? Sorry, I have a scattered brain

You’re absolutely right, sexual harassment is a broad & commonly abused term. So, lets ignore that and look at JUST rape then. 1 in 5 women in the US have been raped, and an estimated 54% of rapes, across genders, are never reported (according to the CDC).

Yup! Masochism finding pleasure in your own pain/humiliation, and sadism finding pleasure in the pain/humiliation of others. Female porn has been becoming more and more popular, but even the type of porn that most women generally prefer is softer/less aggressive.

Most of the research I have read defines sexual assault something like this: sexual harassment, unwanted sexual contact, child sexual abuse, incest, and rape. Sexual contact becomes assault when a person is unable to or does not consent to an activity. And just so you know, I absolutely agree that there are women (too many of them) who abuse the system and, like you said, use the government as a weapon against men.

In advertisements, in the porn industry... and although it’s a touchy subject, the fact that one in three women have been sexually assaulted is pretty messed up. While it is disgusting that sexual assault towards men is largely seen as a joke and underreported, that doesn’t mean that sexual assault towards women is any “less” of a thing. This world is mega fucked up to men and women

Not until just now, as I don’t watch the View (an never plan to). That is simply disgusting ): It’s impossible not to see the double standard regarding violence. If those were men sitting up there talking about women, there would be an absolute outrage. I’m not saying that violence towards men and women has been normalized in the same way or same capacity, just that the prevalence of one does not downplay the importance of the other.

I guess when I wrote that I was thinking of the subtle promotion of aggression, especially as seen in many advertisements? Maybe I just see that as a bigger deal than it actually is, as I’ve studied marketing. I don’t know your views of the porn industry, but sexual aggression towards women in porn is pretty prevalent too.

Hi there (: I just stumbled upon this sub and I’ve so far enjoyed perusing it...what a neat place to discuss an important issue that is too often overlooked/dismissed. While I am a woman, I would not consider myself a feminist. Mainly this is because modern feminism has strayed way off the course of equal rights. I do agree that modern feminism is largely a man-hating, angsty soapbox, and that breaks my heart. Maybe I’m naive, but I’d like to think that men and women should stand together and de…
