Woops. Tired eyes have the better of me. I wasn't talking at all about my thoughts on alimony. I think that alimony, passed several years to help one get back on ones feet, is ridiculous. I do feel that in cases where one spouse has served as a "homemaker", they should be provided with temporary means to help get themselves back into the workforce, provided that those funds are used ONLY for that purpose. Others have already stated this point well, so I'm not going to rehash further.

It seems to be a generational way of thinking that is slowly (too slowly) being phased out of societal expectations. My husband only works part time and my family and his family look down on him for it. I feel that he contributes to our marriage/household in ways that are not just financial and have no problem with him not being the major breadwinner in our marriage.

I would argue that your child (not your wife) got the crib, dvd's, and stuffed animals. And you are also neglecting to count the additional money/time your wife is contributing towards raising your child above and beyond the $500/month you provide. If you were to pay for a months worth of daycare at 40 hours per week for your child, you would be paying more than $500/month. I'm not saying divorce is fair, it rarely is. But to completely disregard the care your wife is providing your child is rid…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
