Ok so about OP's points: 1) having "just enough money" to have a kid is not enough, especially if you live in the Us where medical and educational expenses are substantial. Even if sustaining him is not necesserily expensive if you are good at managing your finances, you have to be able to offer him memories, such as trips and activities without worrying about going bankrupt if anything bad happens. 2) I wouldn't count on my kids to be around when I'm old unless they really want to. It s naive to think that kids will magically solve your problems. Bringing a human into this world and worrying about their well being all your life does not feel as rad as op makes it sound. Not counting everything that could happen, realizing that you might not be a good parent, getting disabled and not being able to provide, them being disabled or mentaly ill.
