Haha valid. I think I was using the term lightly to make a point about how the interest is never truly 50/50 it goes back and forth. Also a lot of all this push/pull game was when I was in college and my early 20s. I think dating world with OLD changed it completely.

Maybe it’s just me but I dated all kinds - both men and women. I had women who chased me and men who I chased. And vice versa. Some men liked to be taken care off and “shown around” and some women wanted to “be in charged”. At the time, I was looking at each based on their personalities more than whether they’re male/female.

“We don’t do case by case here...” Aww I see thx for the explanation - I’m pretty new to this sub. Just saw that op wanted POV from a bi person so I figured I offer my own.

I guess at least in the social circle I was in precovid (sfBay area mixed of all genders and sexualities) we are aware of stereotypical gender norms but we don’t completely adhere to it. I don’t see in trend here toward going back to the way with the man doing most of the chasing, setting up dates and women following along etc among my peer groups. My point is that those roles exist even in same sex relationships but there are enough people who goes against the mainstream that you could find and…

It’s harder for me to self categorized but I am into the outdoor and have a creative background and I definitely like and set more creative first dates. I also usually split the bills especially on first dates. Or take turn on buying rounds. I just try not to make it a big deal - the focus shouldn’t be who pays and how much.

What 1950s gendered role bs is this? But yeah as a bisexual who was living in SF and the west coast most of my adult life - you be surprised how both same and opposite sex relationships have similar romantic fantasy roles. Many of my female lesbian and bi friends and one particular ex (who was a bi male) would take on a traditionally male role in a relationship. And I have others who took traditionally female roles. And then there are a few like me who try to subvert and do my own thing. One is …

My Instagram is closed and so no. I do get an occasional dm and friends requests from randoms which I ignore. Tinder is going to tinder. Twitter is for ranting lol and Reddit is for fun discussions. Everything has its own lane.

Not one person but more of seeing the contrast between what’s portrayed in the media vs the reality around me and talking about it with my own peers. Watching movies, listening to songs and reading books about love and relationships and seeing how the kids at school treat their crushes and themselves. Watching how adults act around each other. How I am treated once I started dating and falling for someone. . I ended up forming my own thoughts about what love is and should or should not be.Still …

For men 2 main types: lean and lanky swimmer/surfer/skateboarder body, well muscled but not overly beefy. Or a modern day Nordic/ Viking warrior body. Tallish - I'm 5'5 so anywhere between 5'9 to 6'2 is a ok. For women: fit, curvy and around my own height give or take a few inches either ways. Edit for clarity: I'm not even getting into the look, inner self and how they move which add so much more to the idealization. I think the swimmer/surfer/skateboarder body type is because those aligned wit…

Oh I’m bunkering in Florida right now and it’s spring break as well so yeah. I should have said for MY own reality post pandemic.

Yeah I miss that instant irl chemistry accidental meet (even if sometime it all goes south from there haha). I do think it will get better once the world opens up and we have more organic options. Curious about if and how our standards will change.

Your generalized list above for me is like my baseline. Your #1 with the chemistry thing definitely is key. Looking back at my own history and to OP question re: standards, I see my own standards as a conceptual construct that kinda goes out the window when I really fall for someone vs just trying to have sex with them. I think the element of surprise and journey discovering what, how and why I'm into someone will often superseed what I have in my own head as to what I want or need for a perfect…

This tracks with my own experience as well. Self confidence is key. Been in 2 long terms most of my 20s and 30s and only dated briefly back then with men closer to my own age and not that fun frankly (for various reasons) but now in my 40s being single again...I feel a lot more relax and having a lot more fun. Somehow even though I'm still me, people I attracted are often more objectively hotter now than what I used to date and I feel more attractive overall. Granted it's all been casual so mayb…
