If the FDA/AMA were to redefine vasectomies as a vaccine, I'd be alllll for it. Edit: another factor to consider in all of this if that even though vasectomies are cheaper & less invasive, the number of men who opt for it is much lower than the number of women who opt for tubal ligation. It could be that this bit of legislation was meant to cover the most common and necessary medical procedures. Get more bang for your buck, I guess.	/r/MensRights	13/12/12 07:33 AM

However, I'm speaking only to one part of the bill referring to sterilization. BUT.....Coverage for many of the listed STD screenings are enforced only for high risk women or men. There are also a lot of treatments that are only enforced for pregnant women or children, but I'm not going to say that the ACA is discriminatory for it. However, the ACA covers a lot of "preventable" health conditions, so that's not what they are trying to do. Pregnancy is not a men's HEALTH condition. Notice emphasis on health. I don't know how to get vasectomies covered to ensure that everyone who wants one can get one. I think it would be for the public good and it would grant men the choice they often lack. Note that vasectomies are covered by most insurance plans, while plastic surgery is not. I, personally, can see how sexual function is a part of one's health. Vasectomies SHOULD be covered, but from a policy/politics standpoint I'm not sure from what angle it works best. Approaching it from a health angle doesn't make much sense because a vasectomy does not prevent any health issues in men; to my knowledge, preventing sperm from coming out in ejaculate does not treat or prevent any sort of sickness or disease in men.
