Ah, what I meant was more along the lines of "are you seriously trying to argue that rape is only a women's issue?" Rape is something that affects all kinds of people. But, there are certainly issues that primarily affect women (just look to the Middle East where there is an actual patriarchy). I think rape was a poor example because it came off as rape is something that affects women exclusively. Maybe I'm just tired of people believing men cannot be victims of sexual assault or rape.

Do you not realize how terrible it is to say something like that? Sure, just because you have arbitrarily decided that it "could have been worse" doesn't make it any less traumatic for the victim. You could use the "it could be worse" rhetoric for almost any tragedy, really. I'll give you an extreme example to illustrate my point: Person 1: The Holocaust was terrible, wasn't it? Person 2: Yeah, but it could have been worse. Person 1: What do you mean? It was a mass genocide... Person 2: Yeah, bu…

It isn't that you said it wasn't awful. Based on your comments, it sounds like you're saying the situation of the boy she raped wasn't "as bad" as other rape situations..."yeah, rape is bad, but it could have been worse." I think that is a terrible thing to say. I sincerely hope you would never say that to a rape victim. It completely diminishes and dismisses their experience when you tell them it "could have been worse."

My good friend from high school went to McGill and is friends with the gentleman from the article. He told me that everything has been resolved and things worked out in his favour. She did pay him an amount, but I am not sure how much it was. I also found out that he plays for the TSO now! :~)

IIRC, a similar incident happened at UCLA a few years ago. There was a girl that posted a racist video about Asians. I believe that she was expelled, too. I think the issue was she recorded a video, posted it online, and the University didn't want to be associated with someone like that. It may have been different if she had said these things to her group of friends privately, rather than posting it online.

In my opinion, I think it's a little different for children. Most haven't developed critical thinking skills, and they just copy what their role models are doing. An (extreme) example of this is the children that are part of the Phelps' family - AKA the Westboro Baptist church family. In a documentary I watched, young children were spewing hateful, vitriolic messages towards homosexuals. When asked if they understood what they were saying, they said no. The girl in the post is technically an adu…

Good for you. I was raised in a family that was open-minded about most things, so I guess it made it easy for me to accept any kind of person. I grew up with a few friends that were raised in extremely prejudiced and conservative families - when I was 10 years old, there was a girl in my class who told people they were going to hell if they didn't accept Jesus into their hearts. I asked her "what about people that haven't ever been exposed to Christianity?" Her answer was "too bad for them, that…

It's pretty rare that people like this change. As we get older, we become set in our ways and change becomes more difficult. I find it hard to believe that an education would help her. She says she's sorry, but let's be real - she's only sorry she got caught and suffered severe consequences.

I'm not sure what you expected from that sub. I'm not sure if this is still happening, but a while ago, the mods of that sub were using autoban bots. Anyone who posted in /r/PussyPass or /r/pussypassdenied would be banned - it didn't matter what you posted, how frequently you posted, and most importantly, it didn't matter if you had never posted in /r/TwoXChromosomes before. I actually downloaded this app (I'm a woman) after hearing some people talk about it. A number of women have complained that the creator is "some incel trying to expose women." ShoeOnHead made a video about this app and contacted the creator. Here's a quote from the email he sent to her: Ever year, hundreds of thousands of people are illegally trafficked all around the World. In most of these cases, makeup is heavily used to disguise the age and/or identity of these people. If human traffickers …

Yeah, sorry...I meant to say I wonder what they would think of Western feminism if they knew what it had become.
/r/PussyPassDenied06/06/17 02:55 AM

I often wonder what Middle Eastern women think of Western feminism. I would imagine that they feel causes such as "freeing the nipple" and women "showing off their menstrual blood" are extremely trivial and insignificant to the challenges they face every day. Of course, the "it could be worse" rhetoric is not a good one, but at the end of the day, women here aren't losing their lives simply because they are a woman. Sorry if I have any unclear thoughts - English isn't my first language.

Western feminists are incredibly narcissistic. They're so full of themselves that they think that man on the bus is spreading his legs to make HER feel uncomfortable. It's absolutely mindblowing.
/r/PussyPassDenied05/06/17 08:07 PM

The problem with this is, a big percentage of feminists don't even believe that females can be anything but saints. As a woman, it breaks my heart that there are so many resources for female victims of domestic abuse but next to nothing for men. If feminists care so much about women's rights, why don't they help women that actually need it? If your biggest problem is "manspreading," you're extremely privileged. The West does not need a feminist movement - countries in the Middle East do.

It blows my mind that people are this self absorbed. "I don't care that this person is busy with an interview right now. All that matters is me getting what I want, regardless of how it affects the people around me. He may not even want his picture taken, but who cares!!!!!" If she wanted a picture that badly, why couldn't she have waited until he wasn't being interviewed?

It's awful, isn't it? I don't know how many men are victims of domestic abuse in comparison to women...but, regardless of what the numbers are, the fact that some people don't even recognize that men CAN BE and ARE victims of abuse is a major issue.

This reminds me of something I saw on (I believe) an Australian website. Telephone numbers were being offered for victims of domestic abuse. There was a number for women to call with the message if you are a woman who has been abused, call _____. There was also a number for men to call; except the message for them was if you are a male that feels like being violent, call ______.

Wow...I guess because I'm a girl, I never considered these things to be possibilities. It's really sad for me to hear that male nurses have to experience blatant discrimination. Interestingly enough, my placement this semester is in the MBU (mother-baby unit) and I was wondering this past week why there were no male nurses on the floor. I guess this answers my question! That's what I was trying to get at, sorry. English is not my first language, so sometimes I find it a little difficult to articulate my thoughts clearly. I agree with you - I don't think it's healthy for people to deal with things like this, regardless of how their day has been. No one should get a 'get out of jail free' card because they're having a bad day. We're all human with our own problems. It sucks when we have to deal with other people's shit, as well as our own.

Just to play Devil's advocate here - you never know what's going on in a person's life. Yes, her reaction was completely unacceptable and she overreacted. She hit him multiple times. In most cases, when you're hit by someone, your initial reaction is to hit back. However, most men won't hit a woman because generally speaking, women are weaker than men and it's "unfair." A woman's gender gives her protection in this kind of a situation. In this video, the guy ignores the fact that she's a chick and hits her anyway. That's why it's PPD. Honestly, it's like we achieved equality and then overshot it. I wish that feminists in Western society would help the women who actually need it. Unfortunately, they're too worried about things like manspreading to give a shit about the women who are truly oppressed. Go almost anywhere in the middle East and you'll see what I mean. In order to achieve an egalitarian society, we need to acknowledge the problems experienced by both men and women.

In the Western world, men are definitely less privileged than women when it comes to things like domestic violence issues, just to give one example. I mean, a woman saying "he hit me" is basically enough evidence to have him prosecuted. A woman can ruin a man's life by making a false rape claim. I feel so sad for the men in Western society (I'm a woman) Whenever there is a case of domestic violence where they're the victim, no one takes it seriously. Another thing that I've noticed - in televisi…
