Valid and amusing point. I think the point I was trying to make still (kinda) makes its way through my rushed comment.

I agree entirely, I see so many posts about how some people seem to take one instance and suddenly claim that all people are like that, yet here is a post doing that same exact thing OVER A FREAKING FACEBOOK POST and yet suddenly everyone is upvoting it.

Im glad I read the comments before diving headfirst into the article and rustling my jimmies. Thank you.

It just goes to show that you cant just blindly look at all the scary numbers and start calling people names. If anyone wants to do any kind of constructive discussion about rape statistics, possibly the most important component is interpreting what the results actually mean.

Is there any way that she could use one of our names/contacts rather than put her own on? Or make a small business and put that name down?

Would they then be able to give out multiple sexism fines if they cant catch them to give them the original sexism fine, so you could essentially give someone effectively infinite sexism fines, since they are evading each fine you gave them before it.

What if we make everyone drive in reverse? MUCH less fatal car accidents occur when both parties are in reverse, therefore no further thought needs to occur.

Its true in the same way that just simply letting no one drive will reduce road deaths.

Well said. I wish i could have formed this concise/well formed of an argument when i was having a similar one earlier.

It seems like its the kind of thing that will become more common the more prisons are privatised, as the more businesses that profit from having people in jail, the more people who will lobby to keep and introduce laws like this one that dont really do anything positive for society, just end up with people in jail.

Not to mention youre creating a situation where they are more likely to commit crime in the future, if you cant get work legitimately because youre on a sex crime register, youre by default more likely to get into stealing or drug dealing simply because you have no choice.

Acknowledging this really does nothing to actually help the problem. If we are going to expend energy fixing it, we might as well fix it properly, not just to fix the problem we are currently experiencing more.

The thing that annoys me the most is when someone questions my stance on some mens rights issues, they automatically assume that therefore I am against female rights. In fact, its one of the easiest ways to get me angry, and I very rarely get angry.

I would also like to take a moment to state that just because you(or indeed anyone) believes in mens rights doesnt mean that they shouldn't/cant believe in feminism. In fact it probably means that you're more likely to believe in both causes. I just feel I need to state this for people who might come into this thread from somewhere else and get the feeling that its a choice, when it really isn't.

No, in the same way that if you go to a a newsagency and buy a lottery ticket, its stupid, because you are unlikely to win. Even if you win, its still a stupid idea. No one is saying it was the guys fault, but you could say depending on the way the break up happenned, he could have taken steps to mitigate the risk.

Im not sure there is a way to prove that it is real. Even assuming it is real, surely the better course of action would be to make a self post outlining the best arguments to use against common arguments against mens rights? I also feel like informing you that i don't mean this as a stab at you, it seems to be a general movement within the subreddit, and its not your fault for posting this kind of thing if that's what the people want.

I read the article, I found it on /r/offbeat before i found it here, and in additino they have a much more lively discussion about who was right/wrong, and everyone seemed to side with the dentist being crazy, but the guy could have potentially mitigated risk by not going to his ex-gfs surgery. link to their comments: http://www.reddit.com/r/offbeat/comments/t14rl/dentist_pulls_out_all_of_her_exboyfriends_teeth/ This is the kind of discussion i would rather be having in mens rights, and if peopl…

(Im going to assume that this is a sarcastic stab at my post, if this is wrong disregard) Well for one this is taking attention away from other actual issues, and for what, so we can all say how wrong they were? Or we can all pat each other on the back for another GLORIOUS VICTORY against the enemy? Not only that, but this kind of circlejerking only serves to make us look like we are just creating strawmen everywhere in order to prove a point, when in fact the opposite is true. Like it or not, m…

Agreed, but whats the point of posting it on this subreddit? If it is impossible for us to tell if it is true, and impossible for you to prove it without revealing their identity due to the witchhunt that would ensue(assuming that it is indeed real), then its giving everyone a way for free karma points, while blocking a spot for something with real issues in it.

Is it just me or is this kind of "i corrected someone on facebook" kind of post just circlejerking? If it was a post to the original article sure, but posting about some hypothetical people (we cant be sure that this even really happened since fb posts can be faked) who dont understand empathy or equal rights just doesnt seem very constructive other than a way for us all to say OH YES, FEMALE PRIVELAGE/MISOGNY/OPPRESSION OH HOW WE HAVE BEEN WRONGED and to get upvotes for someone who took photos …

Why not use the money saved by not imprisoning him to support the child? Obviously there is an issue with that being used to get out of paying for the child, but even if its just used to give to the woman and the man pays it back at a reasonable rate to the state (maybe with small interest). This way hte child is supported and the guy doesnt have to pay child support at the rate where he cant afford to eat/pay rent.

Oh yeah, I completely agree. It just seemed like you were copy pasting that reply from something else, when that situation didnt really warrent it. Completely agree with the blanket statement issue though.

I agree entirely that its stupid, but its very easy for groups that feel threatened by MR to put the entire subreddit in a negative light when things like this get upvoted.

Is that really what we are going to do on a subreddit that is meant to facilitate serious discussion about issues? If this subreddit was about issues AND being funny, then fair enough, but its not. This is the kind of thing that everyone points to when they say that MR is a mens supremacy circle-jerk. I just dont see how this belongs here and how this does ANYTHING AT ALL to help actually get across the idea that men have some issues as well.

I can agree with that. Im not sure that i agree with what you said, but put in that context, i have less of an objection to it.

Yeah, sure thats great, free speech is brilliant, it really is, and its great that everyone can share their view without banning. The issue is about how everyone else is going to feel about mens rights if this is the way people fight their battles.

It was never about you profiling anyone, but the hostility towards someone when (in my view) their concerns were valid. Im not going to say that I agree completely with their argument or their views, but thats HARDLY a need for everyone to get hostile and sarcastic on them. If thats the way that we attack critics of mens rights, we shouldnt be surprised when people think mens rights is a joke.

Yes, yes it is, for the vast majority of the population it is, otherwise it wouldnt be an issue. It seems retarted but most people would come back with the retort of you having to man up if you complain about it. (or other similar comments). How often do you see campaigns about mens rights as compared to female rights? this is because while male gendered problems are less than female ones, they see MUCH less relative media/community attention.

If thats how you are going to argue for mens rights then youre just as bad as all the other people who profile either gender. It was my (apparently wrong) understanding that the ENTIRE POINT of mens rights was to get equality between both of the sexes primarily towards child care, marriage, and recognising that men arent necessarily the bread winners all the time, and that both men and women can do all jobs AND THATS OKAY. Large amounts of profiling is NEVER okay. I thought that of all people, p…

This isnt really the attitude we should be taking if you actually think mens rights should be taken seriously. Female rights still have a long way to go, and if we cant even acknowledge that, then how on earth can we expect society at large to acknowledge, to be fair, a more nuanced and hard to grasp concept of mens rights?

I dont think thats what she (?) was trying to do here. Her point is valid, as it seems that the stories about dads/males interacting with children perceived to be wrong continue to reach the front of this subreddit (and rightly so, considering their nature). Its important to remember that not all cases are horror stories and not to act like every single interaction is perceived as such

From the picture weve been given, I have assumed that he is comparing a 17 yo male who drives a clio to a 17 year old female who drives a clio. Thats only 1 differing data point.

However as far as the information above tells us the gender is exactly what they base everything on. If exactly the same settings for everything else have these results simply by changing gender, they are saying that gender is enough to charge that much more.

So, if I was a particularly effeminate man, I should receive a lower premium? The amount that they seem to evaluate risk seems to be the most they can still discriminate and get maximum profit. Wheres the extra premiums for those who have cars over 5 years due to increases in car safety? Wheres the premium for people who have done any kind of aftermarket modification that increases speed/decreases safety and thus a reduction in premium for those who purchase extra grip tyres. It seems more like …

I only disagree with your point that everyone would do the same in their position. There have been examples of people who do good(or try to) with their money when they become rich. They might be the exception rather than the rule, but they are there. I think its a reflection of what kind of behavior our society rewards rather than human nature.

The only thing we can be sure about Tony abbot is that he opposes anything anyone else says, even if that is what he supported previously. In addition, guarenteeing that the NBN keeps being implemented means that i wont be voting for tony abbot.

Alright, this is a fair point. However, as long as hes being just as protective of his male friends, hes not actually being sexist.

I think you just need to think about it this way: If you were going out drinking with a guy friend, and they were getting drunk, would you try to protect them from someone who was going to hurt them/take advantage of them? I hope the answer to that is yes. In the current world we live in, at least during the younger years of most peoples lives, girls are more likely to be manipulated for sexual acts. If your female friend was approached by a female that you thought was going to manipulate her, w…
