I definitely disagree with your generalizations on Ukraine, except maybe that we are a relatively poor country. Many people are orthodox culturally, because they were christened at birth, so they refer to themselves as such. But it's enough to go to most churches on a Sunday to see how uncrowded they are. Patriarchal? Hardly. While there is this saying that man is at the head of the family, I don't think many people actually take it seriously. Historically, in the olden days, girls were educated…

Astounding, but not surprising.

Yeah, I heard similar accounts. The work you did must have been really appreciated. After hearing about the US I feel so lucky living in a much poorer country, where women aren't forced to feel like outlaws for needing basic healthcare.

You know what makes me not sad, but angry? Those very women who are against abortion would very likely get one for themselves or their daughters, if needed, because their case is oh so exceptional, so they definitely deserve an exemption.

Yeah, riiiight... It's the vagina that's loose, not the other thing that has a much higher likelihood of being diminutive

If you are talking about those colorful silicone things for every individual claw, I heard they are really bad for cats, trap moisture or something.

I still stand by my point. For SOME people in SOME relationships.

I agree with you, the method is a big no-no for something casual. Personally I have never been into casual stuff. I guess I was just arguing mechanics - it is possible to avoid pregnancy just pulling out. I don't want a pill for something that doesn't take place every day, often not even every week, and while I greatly appreciate everything the introduction of contraception has done for women's liberation, I like this alternative method. There's this information in the back of my mind that it ma…

I don't get the downvotes. For SOME people in SOME relationships the pull out method combined with fertility tracking can be a really good option. The guy absolutely needs to be invested in not getting the woman pregnant, he should put it above a few extra seconds of pleasure and everything should be fine. Also, total fidelity from both partners is key in order to avoid the stds.

I changed my last name to my husband's and I'm not giving it back in case of a divorce. It's just so much cuter, almost all voiced consonants, easy to pronounce and spell. My maiden (father's) name was all voiceless consonants, ch and ts, and some palatalization. Practically all people would ask me to repeat myself when I pronounced it. It was not offensive or anything, it didn't mean anything recognizable, I just felt so meh about it. Also my parents divorced, and it was a bit more my dad's fau…

Oh, I have no sympathy for people who aborted girls and then suffer that their sons lack romantic prospects. I just hope it clicks in their minds that it's totally their fault. I hope it doesn't come to that - I mean, governments could encourage people to have more kids by offering assistance and stuff. Forcing sounds handmaid-ish.

That's how I interpreted it as well. If the other variant is true, then I can't express how deranged it is and it's surprising that some Chinese women choose to marry at all.

Thank you for this post, however chilling to read it was. I only want to add that that employee who recommended him and went over your head, should also come under scrutiny. Why does he think that man deserves to work in your company and how can he explain / justify his actions at job interview?

You seem to be doing everything right, very observant and intuitive. If you have this uneasy feeling, don't disregard it - it might be there for a reason. Or maybe I'm just projecting because of thinking about The Gift of Fear book. Could be nothing, but it's always better to be safe.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
