Jeez...this was my childhood too. My mom didn’t die but she was screwing around; my dad forced my brother and I to confront her and demand that she move out. After that I was the functional adult in the house at 15- paying bills, doing all the cooking and housework and parenting my younger brother. My dad meanwhile was usually out partying, it was not uncommon for me to have to go pick him up at closing time and pour him into bed. THIS!!! Same thing happened to me. Was paying all the household bills, doing all the shopping, laundry and cooking by 16. Now when I meet a competent man I’m in awe. It’s pathetic how low the bar is.
