You make a lot of good points, although I'm not sure I agree about part time work. My wife works shorts hours and is still able to cook breakfast+dinner, wash dishes, keep the house clean, do laundry, go shopping, and look after the kids in the rest of the time. Back when she was just a housewife (no job at all), I was worried about her not having enough time for housework when deciding if she should work, but it works out fine now.

Yeah, I'm not expecting or needing her to, but she offered to work longer hours and I was wondering if anyone had experience with doing that while still maintaining the household. But honestly I don't think it's very likely at all. As you say, the home is the wife's domain, and I'm not going to have her spend more time out the house than needed, especially if it means housework might suffer.

And I can definitely vouch for being able to perform better at work when you know the wife is cooking you dinner, cleaning your house etc. Edit: this is all said considering you don’t want to do the housework/cooking etc yourself an…

Yeah, you might be right. It's probably ultimately beneficial for wives to not work/work part time, I'm just weighing up the benefits of extra money vs extra time for my wife to do housework so she doesn't have to do it all in the evening after work.

My wife was a housewife while our three children were <5 and now works part time. She still does all the housewife-roles, cooking, cleaning etc. I think it's definitely ideal, simply because it means there's home cooked meals every day for my children, chores get done in time, and the children have their mother present when they're at home. My two daughters are also very keenly learning to cook. I'm not sure about being a housewife before having kids, but once you have them it's definitely ideal…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
