Alcohol, nicotine, exercise, and sex all motivate the same pathways via release of some combo of serotonin and dopamine, plus reduction of cortisol. The societal factors that mediate how we respond to those things vary, but they’re all basically chemical responses.

It’s absolutely an addiction to chemicals - the chemicals produced by your brain when you’re aroused. People wouldn’t masturbate if it didn’t feel good, and it wouldn’t feel good if our brains didn’t pump out all those chemicals when we do it.

Yeah, because we live in a society where everything is monetized. There are pros and cons to that, but it does free up time and energy that would otherwise be spent finding/growing your own food. Folks who work in farms and factories deserve some credit for doing what a lot of other people don’t want to. Sure, they’re not doing it for altruistic reasons, but that’s not the point. We’re all part of a society, and it behooves is to treat one another with respect.

That’s where the power imbalance comes in. When a man thrusts himself on a woman, she may feel trapped into going along with it because of cultural norms. It is the responsibility of the person with more power to moderate his own behavior, not the other way around.
