I‘ve heard it personally often enough, when guys commented on rape or „rapey“ behaviour (like forcing girls to take selfies or kissing them on a dancefloor).

The comments are what makes this terrible. However, most of the phrases in the actual post is stuff judges and lawyers said in actual trials, about women „provoking“ their rapist with their clothing, or getting drunk with members of the opposite sex. „What was she expecting?“ is a very common male comment on female rape victims. There‘s similar posts about „what did the white guy expect going jogging through that neighborhood“ or „annual deaths from marijuana use, jk this is the statistics for a…

What I don‘t like about the post is that she comes at it from a perspective of what can go wrong first, and free will second. We should stop calling it circumcision and start calling it what it is: genital mutilation. Maybe then people will start thinking about it for real.

Discussed it with my wife yesterday, and showed her the sources some of you awesome redditors linked. We are not doing anything right now. Just gonna give it time.

You're right, I think. I waited until my thirties to have my tonsils removed, wish I had done that sooner. I never realized how much they impeded my breathing, and how they were the source of infections, not a guardian against them (I had chronic tonsillitis, it seems).

It's a cultural thing. Muslims and Jews here in Germany do it, most Germans don't. When I was in a US high school as a teenager, my unsnipped penis caused some comments in the locker room, because as you said many dudes were snipped.

Well you probably won't find anyone who has had sex both circumcised and uncircumcised... As a teenager, the claim went around in the locker room that circumcised penises last longer in bed (stands to reason if some of the most sensitive areas have been cut off, and the glans is always exposed). We all thought that was cool, well you know every horny teenager is in awe of someone who can have intercourse for a long time. Circumcised boys were kind of envied then. These days, I kind of feel rathe…

I'm sorry you had such an awful start to your sex life. It sounds traumatizing to be pinned down by your parents and have your penis manipulated. Thank you for sharing that, and don't give up on yourself. I know my sex life got better in my late twenties / early thirties, it's never too late. I can remember I had the same issues as a kid, and it resolved itself. So after all the helpful comments here, I'm definitely going to stick with the "wait and see" strategy.

Both my wife and I agreed after we walked out of there that this was not the place for us. Problem is, there aren't many places that will still do circumcisions, probably BECAUSE they consider many procedures unnecessary and genital mutilation, and the places that do perform them are operated by Turkish / Middle Eastern doctors. At least the place our pediatrician referred us to was.

Well our pediatrician said it was abnormal, like not even being able to see the glans. But after reading up on some sources that other redditors provided, I think he may be overstating the problem.

Yeah seemed like that to me too. Well they may not have said "grow back", they said something like "not a permanent solution" or "low success rate".

Thank you very much for that. I will show it to my wife, she's the one who gets everything medical thrown at her as she does most of the doctor's visits. I am more convinced than ever that we don't need to look at surgery at all, and if yes, then the absolute minimum.

No, not forcibly. Well I can't claim that really. Doctor said he should pull it back gently during or after bathing, when the skin is softer, and after some discussion he said he wanted to do it himself, and he may have overdone it. Funnily enough, the boys talk about it at school, like "who's able to see the red thing and who's not". Got some Muslim boys who are of course circumcised.

Oh believe me I don't want to. I know I like mine, and I also had issues as a young child. We didn't try to "clean under his foreskin" by the way, when it did get infected we just used a plastic syringe to squirt a prescribed mild disinfectant under there. Worked fine.

My son is 9 and he has never been able to pull his foreskin back. There have been times when he suffered from infections because of course cleaning is almost impossible. We have been putting off circumcision for a long time now, because we really would like to avoid it if at all possible. We have tried cortisone lotions to soften the foreskin and whatnot, but nothing has helped (rubbing lotion on my son's foreskin- yay). The place we went to to get advice on the procedure does many circumcisions…
