Thanks. I actually had my first appt with an MFT last week, but it was unfortunately just an intake. I have Kaiser health insurance and their mental health department is so overbooked that my next appt is not until Jan 14th!

Yes it is a cunt and although I anticipate divorce being a living hell, I can’t imagine living my whole life in a marriage that only drains me physically and mentally.

Sounds like you were in exactly the same boat, although she has now been in the down part of the cycle for years now with no sign of improvement and she has tried so many therapies. It has been so long that I am seeing mental illness develop in myself now. Besides this, I actually don’t believe that even without the mental illness we are that compatible as I look back on our relationship even during the good times. I think the mental illness is what kept us together so long (I’m sure this is som…

We have already talked about it but she is so depressed, can not muster up energy to do anything about it, even if she does say how much she wants me to be happy. Although I try to be positive around her, I wonder if her knowing this adds to her depression and therefore makes me being around her is detrimental to her and our relationship (perhaps a reason I think even if she was not depressed, our relationship cannot work). I didn’t think much about taking care of myself mentally until the last …

Thank you for the response. I know she will financially be fine (I would make sure to support her for a reasonable amount of time so she can get on her feet). My worry is mentally if one of the two people, her mom and I, that give her emotional support abandons her while she’s sick. Did not think about the no more sex thing as I still try occasionally if she seems in a better mood just for a rare relief of my frustration. Seems like a good point because it would give me hope again.

That’s tough being in another country. Maybe it’s an opportunity to return to your country and start over

No offense taken, I absolutely do not know all the implications and possibilities. This is good advice and one of the reasons I came here. Trying to figure out a normal course of action in this to protect myself, yet be fair to my stbx. Definitely want to make sure she neither of us are left out in the cold, but also still want to be sure i get my reward and satisfaction for working long hours, and don’t get stuck doing so and struggling to pay my own bills. I think I will try to speak with a la…

This is true. I am worried buying her out of the business I built will cost me more than I can afford and put me all the way to square one as far as my career. Based on the nature of my business, she cannot legally have ownership, but it would be considered community property I believe so I would have to buy her out somehow.

Absolutely. At this point I’m really trying to find the least stressful and least painful way out. Also, just hoping the problem is not me. Never done any counseling myself

Thank you. I have a happy healthy life already outside of her and do enjoy my work, so unlikely to have a heart attack. But she is the main stressor in my life and I feel like I just stay with it because I know someone will be home when I get there.

Thanks for the response. I can envision how things can get better after leaving, it’s just we’ve been together long enough I wonder if it’s a case of the grass always being greener too though, then ending up lonely. I already have a lawyer recommended to me by my business attorney, but have not contacted them yet. Is this normal to speak to a lawyer prior to being 100% sure of divorce? What fees would I expect for an initial consult?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
