My mother in law is quite similar and I used to take it personally, until I noticed she was a bit like that with everyone. She always needs to defend every choice she's made in her life, tell people they'll experience the same struggles as her and generally take comfort in others' misery. I've realized she's really just extremely insecure, in both her relationship with my husband/her son (I've especially noticed this since having kids myself--I would never ask my boys for the same kind of compan…

Honestly, I would not mind. My fiance at the time had just signed a contract to make six figures, and I picked a secondhand engagement/wedding ring set that was $800. But context is important too--at the time we were saving for a car, a security deposit for our first apartment together etc. If asked, I would send him examples of what you're interested in and let him figure out a good price for that. 🙂 It's always possible to "upgrade" later, too, although I haven't felt the desire to yet!

I agree with this--my own husband makes a good living as a software guy and is a great leader for our family. And, he loves to play Guild Wars when he's got a big chunk of time in the evenings! It doesn't disrupt our lives and I've never cared. I have nonproductive hobbies too so I can't point fingers haha

relatable! haha. A good friend of mine just had the cutest little guy and I can't wait until we can start trying again.

About 3, I am also trying to lose some weight right now and what always motivates me is buying a new healthy cookbook or two and making it fun! I've found that if I don't have a good attitude towards it and focus on what I'm restricting instead, I'm bound to binge eat chocolate after the kids are in bed. 😬

1) My lab results came back from the OB and it turns out I'm very anemic. I'm relieved to have an explanation for my low energy levels lately! Iron supplements to the rescue. And it's nice to feel like I'm taking care of my body to prepare it for kid #3 (we want to start TTC the end of this year). & 2) The last few pounds are hard to lose after this pregnancy! Quite a bit harder than my first one. I'm going to reread French Women Don't Get Fat after I finish my current book--I always find it sup…

No advice as I'm in the same boat--but always up to chat :) mid-20s, love reading, gardening and lightly outdoorsy activities! I've tried mom groups/classes (I have 2 little boys) and a church group but no luck yet! Most of my close friends live very far away (in a different state/country).

Reading some parenting books lately--to help deal with toddler meltdowns in a more methodical way--and wow. I started reading to work on my relationship with my son, but I feel like reparenting myself in the process too. Motherhood is very refining! Also, perhaps a silly question (I've been out of the loop for a while thanks to having 2 under 2!) but did something happen to the discord for this subreddit? I went to go look for it on the app but there were all of these updates and it removed me f…

Physically, I would like to be better dressed and groomed. It is way too easy as a SAHM (especially while pregnant) to get into the same old grubby loungewear every day, never touch my makeup and let my hair/brows/nails go completely! I have a pretty good idea of what my style is, but I don't often stick to it. Personality-wise, I would like to be less anxious and more trusting (especially of my husband and friends who deserve it). I would like to be more optimistic about life! I've always admir…

Honestly, I used to be the same way. But when I met my husband I really started to want biological kids. I researched and read a LOT about pregnancy and childbirth before and during my pregnancy and decided it would be best to go into L&D with the motto "All I want is a healthy mom, healthy baby." Also, "It's only a few hours of my life" lol. I've heard the epidural takes away most of the pain of labor, so that's always a great option. I have scoliosis so mine didn't work last time. I did not th…

There's already a lot said on here in terms of arguments, but just wanted to add: I don't think you're crazy :) I made it clear to my now-husband when we were still in college, that I wasn't going to move in with him until we were engaged. He proposed about a month after we graduated!

Met at 18, started dating at 19, married at 23, now we're 25 and expecting our 2nd :)

Tonight I made au gratin peas and potatoes with bacon, which was a HUGE hit with hubby (he loves all things creamy and cheesy). Tomorrow we're having a cookout with my mom and sister to celebrate LO's first birthday. And later this week I'm planning a big batch of black beans and rice (with tomatoes, vinegar and coriander--an old family recipe). Really going hard on the comfort foods since I'm still in my first trimester with LO#2, haha.

A skill I learned during premarital counseling with my husband was "active listening." Basically, when you are listening to someone talk about how they feel, you then paraphrase what they said in a way that shows you understand. So an example we played out in counseling was about his mom (who I do NOT get along with). He said: "I'm sad because I feel like every time I bring up my mom, you have to get in some snide remark before we can have our conversation. I don't agree with everything my paren…

I'm going to go against the grain here and say she doesn't seem fake to me. I really enjoy her content! We are both from the midwest and the same age, I think. I feel like if I was on YouTube (which I don't think I'll ever have time for), I'd have the same mannerisms. They are very guarded and midwestern, haha. IMO her cheeriness and confidence might be an "act" but her sentiments seem genuine and the info is quite good!
