I know there is statistics and modeling built into it (my brother is a sociologist), and there's good research that gets done by sociologists. With that said, "liberal arts" is a very context-dependent pseudo-category that covers pretty much everything in the broadest definitions, but colloquially would absolutely include sociology when talking to the layman.
