Exactly! Not only is this an excuse to not look inward, it’s doing someone else’s work. It’s doing their heavy lifting, their emotional work. It’s ineffective, damaging to the person doing it, and it’s training those around you to expect it. This will attract LVM and repel HVM (same can be said for friendships).

This and also, many take care of their skin. I have several close friends who are gay guys and they use the same product I do! They also get laser treatments, along with Botox and fillers. They have gorgeous skin because they prioritize taking care of themselves.

I’m going to start utilizing this strategy. Thank you for sharing! I’d love to see a post of any other tips and strategies you use, since it sounds like you’ve been working to overcome conditioning (like many of us!)

I’m so sorry you went through that! I continue sharing my experience because it was traumatizing and I don’t want any more woman to experience this.

Congrats! That’s empowerment and setting healthy standards for yourself! I’ve had both the copper and the hormonal (mirena). The copper iud was in for about two years. My periods went from 2-3 days to 6, cramp intensity increased, and I had persistent BV. Once it was removed, my body was back to normal within 6 weeks. I had mirena inserted in July 2018, and it triggered a full blown auto immune response from my body. I was exhausted, my joints ached, constant dry eyes and mouth... the list was l…

I think doctors get a kickback of sorts when they prescribe the iud. Consider medical sales reps who basically bribe the doctors and their office just to take a meeting with them. I went in for the copper iud years ago and the doctor kept pushing mirena. I didn’t want hormones and told her that, but she was almost shaming me about my choice! The office ran my insurance and told me the copper wasn’t covered, which wasn’t the case when I verified with my insurance. I asked the office to run it aga…

There’s a way to be supportive and offer critical feedback, without being condescending. With all due respect, this isn’t it.

A crucial component of accountability is developing compassion and kindness for yourself. Understand and reflect upon mistakes or poor decisions. But acknowledge that you were doing your best at the time. Now you know better, so you do better! Without compassion and kindness for yourself, blame and shame thrive. This erodes self-esteem and can foster a victim mentality.

Work on recognizing cultural misogyny. Understand what led you to be in the situation you’re in, if you’re unhappy with it. Consider your upbringing and attachment style. I had low self-esteem once I got to be 11 and puberty hit. I soaked up all the negative messages from peers, the media, men, you name it. I’m 34, and only in the last year have I been able to recognize my worth. I’m worthy because I’m a human being! Between 11-34, I thought being “nice” would get me whatever it was that I neede…

Working with a therapist will be very helpful. I’d also encourage you to consider the language you use to describe yourself and your situation. Maybe there’s nothing “wrong” with you, rather choices you have made or circumstances that have shaped you, leading you to be in a place you’d rather not be. Once you consider the difference, you’ll see the power you have to change whatever you’re unhappy with. Language shapes us. Choose yours carefully, as you work on leveling up.

I’ve been single for the last year, and majority of my adult life. My single status was definitely viewed as a disease by most friends, and even me.... up until the last year. My friends and I are all in our mid-30s through mid-40s. Nearly all my married girlfriends are miserable with their NV husbands. Now, they envy my independence, and that’s a very intentional word choice. “Being single” has a fairly negative connotation for most women. There’s an implication that something’s missing, not pa…

Thanks for all the hard work to keep this sub high quality. I’ve been lurking for nearly a year, and only recently began commenting. Didn’t want to jump the gun as I was shedding my PickMe habits and behaviors, but this is good encouragement for me (and I’m sure many others) to contribute the level of content I’ve just been consuming until now.

I feel seen and triggered! Add in a side of narcissistic gym bro (I’ve dated several personal trainers), and I had myself the perfect concoction of codependency🙄

Thanks for posting this. I’ve seen a lot of “look at me” posts recently that appear to be seeking validation, rather than asking for advice or sharing strategy. Seeking external validation is pickme behavior. It can be hard to acknowledge this but that’s part of the work on the FDS journey. Did an LVM send a dumb text? Block and delete! Don’t respond, and then move on. Consider why you feel the need to post those screenshots on here. How can you learn to validate yourself? Affirm yourself? Trust…
