On one hand, yes people would likely not want their ear chopped off after receiving knowledge that your hearing could have been slightly better. On the other hand, if someone told this to me today, and I had no indication that something was wrong until that moment (my hearing is still great and everyone else is also missing their ear), then no I wouldn't care.
