That is a very healthy and mature outlook on life. Thank you so much for this. I have always been the top 1% in academics in my nation, and I’m among the 30 students to be accepted in the top dental school of my nation. I have no doubt in mind that I’m not stupid. It’s just somewhere along the way, I have lost all my drive and motivation to move forward.

That’s why I’m upset that some people don’t have to work for their own achievements. But you’re absolutely right though.

understand that you are more than just your work or academics When the majority of my waking hours are spent on working, I find it really hard to keep my ego from being heavily invested in my work/academics. If you can shed some light on this I will be very grateful. Nevertheless, great advice, and I’ll be sure to keep this in mind.

I think learned hopelessness describes me perfectly. The biggest challenge I have now is how to break free from it. If you have any insight please let me know.

Nothing is being gifted to me is right. Everything I’ve achieved in life has been on my own merit.

The only time I was given a fighting chance (aka was given enough time to study) was the 6th time, and I was short by 1.25 points. Dental school takes 6 years to finish here. I graduated on time without delay. where’s the NEGATIVE reinforcement You have zero clue buddy. I didn’t become a mental ruin overnight. any idiot can clean teeth and do X-rays That’s a very naive take. Spend any time in the real world and you’ll know nothing is that simple. i’ve had tons of failure before too I doubt you’v…

I’m not top of the class, but I still managed to keep my grades at about 50% in my class while struggling with mental illness. As I said in my other post, I have shit tier luck when it comes to the exams in that, each of the five times, an unskippable event had to happen right before them, which takes away the majority of my study time. My sixth time was my first real shot at it and I delivered. Regardless, I still endured tremendous hardship and suffering to be able to graduate dental school on…

Can you elaborate on the phrase “Don’t defer your happiness”? I’ve always tried to suffer first so I can enjoy later. If you check out my last post, you’ll see that I have not genuinely felt joy for close to 7 years, because I haven’t achieved the thing I want (getting my license), so I don’t allow myself to relax. And it’s mentally killing me.

Older than you is old. Women peak at 18-21 and start declining after. You should be ecstatic bagging younger women, not older ones that are about to hit the wall. Have you learned nothing here?

Can you elaborate on the phrase “your worst enemy is yourself”? I’ve seen this phrase so many times but I’ve never understood what it means.

lmao that’s a good one, but I don’t actually drive garbage trucks. I say it to tease girls, because I obviously don’t look like someone who drive garbage trucks. My main problem is that, by concealing my real profession, it prevents me from having a real connection with someone.

I tell girls that I drive garbage trucks, but I always feel like keeping secrets stops me from having meaningful connections with others. So I’m looking for a better alternative as well.

My interpretation of this is that you have to remain stoic, and understand that nothing can faze you emotionally. However, you have to assert dominance whenever you think it benefits you. So your losing of temper is cold and calculated, not from an emotional place.

Hypertrophy does work on masticatory muscles. However, TMJ is a very delicate joint. If you overwork it, you run the risk of having an internal derangement of the TMJ, which is a bitch to treat and sometimes never heals.

Agree about all your points except the staring in the eye one. Why is it passive aggressive teenage shit? I’ve done this quite a few times in different scenarios, and most of the times people just back down. I think it’s a pretty effective way to establish boundaries without saying a word.

I disagree. I think this will make him look like a mopey bitch that just got his feelings hurt. Personally, I’d stand up straight, look him straight in the eye and say “ok.” And then continue doing what I was doing. The discipline part comes later.

Any suggestions where I should go looking for a coach? Do you mean a therapist?

Nice examples. However, I’m not a victim of crab buckets. I’m the one that’s falling behind the curve. I’m the one sitting at the sideline watching other people flourish. What I wanted was to prove those people that kick me at my lowest (now) they were wrong. I now realize that this mentality has significantly worsened my mental health, and that it’s inefficient and nigh impossible to change other people’s view of you. But I still want to prove them wrong someday in the distant future, when I ha…

I don’t think you should ignore them. You should at least clap back or make witty remarks like other people suggested here. Normies need to be put in place, or they’re just gonna push the boundaries more and more like an undisciplined child.

I don’t think so. My seniors and juniors love me. I warm up to people not from my field quickly. The people that hate me are the ones that have to compete with me, which are males of my similar age. I don’t have problems with girls either.

What about being shunned, ostracized, disrespected and disregarded by a group of people (that I can’t walk away from because I need my diploma) for the better part of the decade? I feel like as tough as I think I am, this has really put a dent in my mental health.

You’re absolutely right. It’s true that I’ve done nothing to warrant anyone’s respect. However, being disregarded and ostracized for as long as I have been, denied any semblance of dignity and self esteem, it’s hard not to feel hatred, especially when those people are flourishing. I take responsibility for what I am right now, but I also won’t forgive the people that kicked me when I’m down. Sorry if I come off as edgy. It’s just that I feel so broken and filled with hatred right now.

How effective is therapy? I’ve thought about it but I was too stubborn to admit I have any sort of mental illness. I’ve always told myself to just toughen up and deal with it, but it’s starting to take a toll on me.

Thanks for replying man. I guess I really should’t put so much attention on a lost cause. It’d make more sense to focus on myself.

Thanks man. I’m trying, but being at the lowest point of my life, it’s all darkness as far as I can see, and it’s really discouraging for me. I have not been happy for a very long time, and my complete lack of belonging kills me every single day.

Thanks man. I was actually talking about the people I spent so many years with in college. 5 whole years of being shunned and disregarded, it has really put a dent in my mental health. But all your points still stand, and I will certainly try to act on it. It’s nice to have someone to care.

I have a couple close friends, both of them are over-achievers and are respected within their circles. I guess you can say they respect me as a friend, and can empathize with my situation, but the cold hard truth is that I have achieved nothing of importance, let alone anything for anyone to talk about.

I’m saying all my life I’m never achieved anything, therefore despite being relatively familiar with RP knowledge, I couldn’t wrap my head around how being a respected individual feels like, or what it entails.

Thanks bro. I guess I’ve been clinging to the past in hopes of one day that I can exact my “revenge”. I guess it’s smarter and better for my mental health to let the past go. I’m still getting that revenge, but I’m doing it as a by-product of becoming a better man.

I think he’s saying that it’s not impossible, just extremely hard and not worth putting attention into. That being said, do you have any experience of turning around the opinion of an old relationship? Would you mind shedding some light for me and replying to my previous comment on this post?

This is a really good message. After reading this, it just hit me that a great portion of my suffering stems from trying to get old relationships to respect the “new me”, and failing miserably at it. I would fall into depressive episodes thinking that no matter what I do, it’d never be enough for old relationships to see me in a new light. This post has given me a lot to think about. Does anyone have any success stories to share with me? I’m currently in my lowest point in life where I’ve spent …

you want a pat on the back from someone who agrees with you I don’t see how that stops me from being right. If you know the first thing about power you’d understand how crucial the role deception plays. And for your last point, lying is but a tool. I won’t achieve anything JUST by using it, but it’s a really powerful weapon to have in anyone’s arsenal.

Yes you can gain from lying There you go. Is it so hard to admit that? That’s literally the only point I’m trying to get across. It’s better to remain ambiguous and say nothing than to trap yourself with a lie Like what I said in my first comment, lying by omission is still lying. What you’re suggesting me to do instead is still lying. It’s more so about not being clingy etc etc That’s exactly what I said. You’re just paraphrasing me. I don’t aspire to be a sociopath. I aspire to live my life to…

Matter of fact I do already. You have to be especially gullible to think that you’ll get far in life for being honest all the time. For one, you kill the mystique surrounding you. For another, you open yourself up to be taken advantage of.

My way of seeing it, I can build my own value and also try to understand the mechanics of power dynamics. It’s just like you said, it’s another tool in the toolbox for me to choose from. My problem with OP is that when you forbid me from lying, you’re essentially having my hands tied in the game of power (90% of power play is about lying/concealing facts/smoke screens etc.), and I just don’t see how it’ll do me more good than harm.

I have two questions. One, isn’t deflecting in the same vein as lying by omission? Second, what if I unapologetically lie in order to advance myself? Like lying to women about my n count to gain the advantage of preselection? Or lying in a corporate setting to climb the ladder faster? Is Machiavellianism not encouraged here?
