That was a comfort test. Playful reassurance is what she’s looking for. Not STFU.

Ted Bundy is the exception; most serial killers don't have his charisma. What isn't the exception is how anyone on death row with any amount of notoriety has numerous "pen pals" - women that wouldn't have given them the time of day prior to their arrests.

Both are certainly possible. Just like how all divorced women's ex-husbands - without exception - were "assholes." Somehow, I doubt that's the case.

The thing that kills me: stories like this aren’t that unusual. Nearly every woman has a story of an abusive boyfriend/husband. You’d think they’d learn.

When you look like Henry Cavill and have his level of social proof (famous, well-paid actor), then yeah, you can do pretty much whatever you like. Though that’s not really applicable for the OP.

Like it or not, if a man is given a choice between a 45 year old and a 25 year old that are otherwise identical, he's going to choose the younger model every single time.

Yep. In high school there were a few girls who expressed interest in me, but I wasn't a "Chad" by any means. Then a good friend (who happened to be a cheerleader) asked me to a formal because her first choice bailed. Overnight, other more attractive/popular girls - who never gave me the time of day previously - started paying much more attention to me. Pre-selection at it's finest.

That one in particular is weird. How many dads actually shop for their kids' clothes? Particularly in the infant/toddler stage? I have no interest in shopping for kids clothes, but even if I did, at that age my wife was an absolute Nazi about what they could/should wear.

I have not been on OLD in 15 years, but at the time, Match and eHarmony were the only two worthwhile services. You could typically browse for free, but to contact anyone you had to pony up. So everyone had some skin in the game, which helped weed out those just looking for a free meal or ego stroking.

2) "jeweler" is an occupation/profession. She just kind of threw it into the middle of a bunch of adjectives, as though she thinks it's just someone who likes jewelry. Or one time she made some shitty cosmetic jewelry from a kit she bought at the local crafts store.

I can understand being pressured into sex once. Maybe twice. But "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me" applies here. If you truly keep finding yourself in situations where you're pressured for sex to the point where you want to say no but can't due to fear, then you have serious boundary issues and need to get help of the psychiatric kind.

As others have said, this guy bailed because it was obvious to him he was nothing more than a paycheck to this person. Many married men lament that their wives see them as little more than a wallet with legs. If they were to leave tomorrow but the paychecks still kept coming in, the wives would be just fine. From the tone of this person's post, that's exactly what he was looking at if the relationship continued. Good for him.

He made her feel safe and didn't abuse her. Is that really that unusual? I know it goes against the popular narrative that "all men are potential rapists" or whatever, but if that has truly been her experience, I'd suggest it says more about her picker than men in general.

Yeah, I know a handful of 40-something Christian women who have never married. Typically they're either very unattractive and overweight and/or passive to a fault. I'm sure some of that comes from a sense of "I don't need to do anything, God will drop the perfect husband in my lap. Eventually." Some have gotten their act together now, taking care of their appearance and trying to be more presentable to men, etc... but it's simply too late. Unless they want to date men with AARP cards.

I read some Christian marriage forums, and I'm always surprised at the number of women who say something along the lines of "He's obviously lying when he says I'm sexy and attractive when I'm over 40 with stretch marks and graying hair and there are hotter women everywhere." Like it's impossible to fathom that yes, your husband still loves you and finds you attractive? Maybe you should assume positive intent and take him at his word? Just boggles the mind.

She's internalized some weird messages. If she's mid 20s, marriage minded, takes care of her appearance/weight, etc... she's in her prime. Even if she's below average in natural beauty. When I was single, I had older church ladies trying to set me up with some seriously unattractive 20-somethings. Overweight, ugly, no effort at looking presentable. However, they are all married now. So someone was willing to wife them up. I'd wager the same for this person. She either has a terrible personality,…

Lately a popular thing complaint among women is the "emotional labor" they're expected to shoulder - e.g. intangible burdens that women carry around that men do not. I'd argue that men have different, greater burdens that go unnoticed/unappreciated; many SAHMs will say how much time they spend doing housework, being the taxi driver for the kids, meal preparation, etc. and that is equivalent work to what their husband does at work. And it may be true, purely from a "I'm busy for X hours per day" …

I was flabbergasted the other days when a woman on a book review podcast was basically bitching about how “men say they want a smart, driven and successful woman and they like it initially but when they realise she is smarter than them it gets old very fast”. And went on to say that described every guy who ever hit on her I felt compelled to ask - “where have you been reading that men want this? Because they are at best ambivalent to your level of success”. It is women that want a successful man…

What's wrong with tattoos? They're unattractive. I've never seen a tattoo on a woman that enhanced her beauty. At best, they're a net neutral They show poor long term thinking - what you think is cool at 22 won't be what you think is cool at 32. Might not want to get that (whatever it is...) permanently etched into your skin. They often indicate slutty behavior. Women getting tattoos are often mirroring what they find attractive in the other sex.

This was before the '08 crash, so I'm sure that's changed things somewhat. But still - credit score isn't the be all/end all to qualify for a loan.

But the sizes were literally double what they are today due to vanity sizing (i.e. a size 16 back then was equivalent to a size 8 today) Maybe for the standards of the day she was on the larger side at times; but even at her heaviest she was still well within a "normal" BMI, and always had a tiny waist with an hourglass figure to die for.

A. If she wanted to be married, she was focusing on the wrong thing. Unless she was specifically targeting male-dominated fields of study in order to get her MRS degree. B. The more degrees she has, the greater her hypergamy, and the fewer men she will find attractive enough to marry.

I can see the logic where high school teachers would be much more susceptible to temptation. However, elementary school teachers? Most of the ones I've met could make good mothers, as you need an abundance of patience with young children and a nurturing spirit.

Unfortunately most churches are no longer willing to call out sexual sin - unless it's related to men and porn. They know most of the young people are having premarital sex, and most of their parents did as well. If they come down hard on it, they fear they'll run off their congregation.

These women think they hit the jack pot, when all he is interested in is a quick and easy lay. He would date them for a few times, but once they stared talking serious long term stuff i.e. marriage, kids, he would block their phone calls and delete their numbers. Women never asked why such a good looking man in his late 30’s or early 40’s was never married or had kids. He was single, for a reason. He didn’t want to get married. Why choose one woman when he can have many? And that is exactly what…

Or someone who is only pretending to be nice in order to get sex. Which is ridiculous. It's entirely possible for a man to be nice out of the goodness of his own heart, to want the best for other people, to treat others with respect and kindness, etc. The fact that he may also want love and affection - as most of us do - does not in any way negate being "nice" or make him a hypocrite or liar.

WOMEN... A department store opened in New York City that sold men. A woman decides to visit it in search of a husband. At the store’s entrance, there’s a sign outlining the department store policy: The first rule states that you can only enter the store once. There are six floors and on each floor you can choose a husband or elect to move on to the next floor. You cannot visit a floor more than once other than to leave the building. The woman visits the first floor. The sign reads: Men with jobs…

Boggles the mind how clueless some women are about basic biology. You don’t start having a family in your early 40s. If you have any sense at all, you have finished having a family long before then. I’m not opposed to the idea either. Honestly I haven’t thought it through all the way, but on the surface it seems like a start. You can’t punish people for having kids (well, unless you’re China), but you can incentivize them to get sterilized.

That's the same dynamic going on here. If someone truly believes sex is sacred and should only be between a husband and wife, then it's not hard to stay a virgin. Because you will have no desire to sleep with any man you're not married to. I'm not sure that tracks. You can want to remain a virgin from an intellectual perspective, but your lizard brain is still going to be screaming "MAKE BABIES NOW" when in the presence of someone sexually attractive.

I was a (very) semi-pro musician, and have played with dudes in the music industry who weren't stars yet, but were on their way - and the amount of poon they were able to score was insane. Effortless. Some of them were all up on me as well, simply because I shared the stage with them. There’s been a concerted effort to shit on professional dog breeders and push people towards adopting shelter dogs - most of which have some pit bull in them. And it’s cheaper to adopt those dogs than pay several hundred for a pure-bred non-pit.

A significant other with "narcissistic tendencies" doesn't last 8 years. They last weeks not several years much less decades. Eh, it can. But - he's also 6'4", very good looking, and was making $150K in his 20s when they met - not to mention he exhibited the "dark triad" traits that come along with Cluster B, so she overlooked all the warning signs prior to tying the kn…

But that's not a high SMV. We've already established pretty much any woman can get laid with minimal effort. SMV is her objective physical attractiveness - e.g. gorgeous woman "She's a 10", plain jane is a 5, the uggo with the piggy snout and hairy chest is a 1.

K. Stop taking our jobs then and get back to the kitchen. They want two things that are at odds with each other - to be taken care of financially by a man, and to have a fulfilling, high-paid job. The former is the ideal of the pre-80s, before women invaded the workplace en masse. Men could expect to keep a job that was able to pay all the bills, and subject to regular advancement, raises, etc. But then feminist began whispering in the ears of women, telling them how unfulfilled they were, and h…

Grunge hit the mainstream in 91 - I clearly recall the whiplash change of direction on MTV and radio from hair metal to grunge that year. Cobain died in 94; the grunge corpse kept twitching for a few more years and a lot of acts continued to incorporate grunge elements through the turn of the decade, but most of the "classic" albums were released within that 3-4 year timespan.
