37	If you are ever accused of a crime, like domestic violence, do NOT EVER say anything. Immediately request a lawyer. I was falsely accused of it, and I won in court. Had I talked to the police (despite never hitting anyone, ever), I would have been charged and convicted of something I didn’t do. This is a hard thing to speak to in absolutes because every place is different. I thought I should add my experience for perspective. Where I live, if you get arrested for DV, you are automatically held overnight and the accuser can get an easy 30 day restraining order. And if you don’t talk to the cops, you are almost guaranteed to get arrested. In my previous nightmare of a marriage, my ex would call the cops and try to get them to arrest me.
